Who said we are blaming Lee? Of course he'd sign a contract that he isn't worth. He isn't dumb. $10 million a year for Lee completely kills any real chance at a max free agent signing. I'm not wasting cap space to give Lee $10 million. Why? Because Lee simply isn't that good and isn't worth $10 million per year. If Lee could play defense and attempt to block shots sometimes, maybe he'd get more consideration.
This is one reason I want a shot blocker here. I am not pulling for Thabeet in this version of the Knicks, but the key to MDA's offense is the fast break. That's started with blocked shots, rebounding, and smart outlet passes. Thabeet would bring a different style of rebounding than Lee does and I think it would prove more effective in the SSOL system. Lee boards from the outside in, whereas Thabeet owns the paint. Lee is a great rebounder, but I wouldn't call him a tough rebounder and what he sacrifices in his game to get those rebounds hurts the system. I remember the more rugged Antoni McDyess completely raping Mr. Softy David Lee in their matchups. This guy is completely overrated and it really never ends. I look at every other fanbase and what they think of Lee and most don't overvalue him like you do king. They see what he brings to the table and what he brings isn't worth $10 million. It's not even worth $8 million.
