Isiah wouldn't still be on the books? He still has a year left on his contract I believe. It automatically gets wiped out since he gets a new job?

He is leaving the New York Knicks (aka resigning) to pursue a new job at FIU. He was never fired or bought out by the New York Knicks (like Larry, Don Chaney, etc) who were then still paid by us while also seeking new employment.

He is leaving his current employment to pursue new employment.

Again, this is NOT a buyout NOR a firing. This is an employee leaving one company to join another. By doing so he is forfeiting his remaining NYK salary to sign the dotted line at FIU.

Florida International- isn't that where Jerome James went to school?

our beloved big game went to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

My bad...I thought Isiah might've gotten the job out of cronyism, but clearly he got it from his own merit.

Why does he keep trying to coach? He can make a nice living as a scout or something because it's obvious that he is very good at this.

I think this will be a good move for him.

Correction: "I think this was the only move for him"

You may be right.

I still think this is a good move for him. I believe all coaches should start at the lowest level or, at least, have a few years as an assistant before they become a head coach for a major team.

I.Thomas made some bone headed mistakes, but I like to think a lot of that came from being pressured from Dolan. The man has an eye talent, his track record proves that. If he can surround himself with a solid coaching staff, he'll be alright.

He's trying to get his career restarted. Going to a small school was a smart move because if he fails noone notices. If he succeeds he looks great. But let's be honest, nobody at any level above this was going to hire the guy. Too much baggage to put this guy in the spotlight again.

Co-eds!

Isiah as a new field to play in! A well dressed smooth operater can start obsessing over some young intern-manager types who work for the team, or the best of all: Cheerleaders!!!!

Creepy Isiah recruiting? Anyone want this slimball over seeing your sons education?

Creepy Isiah working with a coaching staff?

creepy Isiah working with the administration?

Why would you bring this guy on campus?

Is he gonna bring Brendan Suhr with him also?
Papabear Says
Come on guys I don't think Isiah came to New York trying to destroy the team. Yes he made bad decisions just like others before him. We can all let it go now. The problem is that no one who can really play wants to come to New York. We are very quick to throw someone under the bus. I guess the lesson to be learned will be that in 2010 when we come out with nothing, no Lebron, no Bosh, no Wade, and it's not that they don't like New York, they don't like the way we treat people. Charles Barkley said it best when we threw Patrik Ewing under the bus and he gave his all and all to New York. We are looking more like the Clippers of the east every day. I wish Isiah the best with his new coaching job. He was one of the greatest point guards to play the game and he failed in New York and I thought he should be let go. It looks like D'Antonio ain't doing such a good job either. It looks like he won't match Isiah's win mark this season. I am willing to wait till next season and maybe if we show some appreciation with what little we have maybe a star player might come to New York but I doubt it!!

Anyone notice the irony in this?

You say nobody wants to come to NY because of the way Ewing was treated? But fail to mention anything about a coach being led out in handcuffs and at gunpoint(I believe he was shot), sex with interns, sexual harrassment suits, etc.

There are many players that will not come to NY because of the overheated fans, media and past treatment of players. Many players can't handle that. But there are also great players who would love the challenge and excess rewards that NY has to offer as well. Lebron may come here, good chance he won't. But I don't think he is going to base his decision on how Isiah and/or Marbs were treated here. Nothing in their treatment was unfair. You reap what you sew.

What a devious plan! No one will suspect him of secretly pulling the strings here when he is "coaching" in Florida. Brilliant!!!

I hope they got his draft thoughts before he left the building. I don't want to end up with a 7 foot point guard this year.

Coaching on the college level is perfect for him. He should have paid his dues that way to start. I have to imagine Isiah Thomas is gonna be one of the best recruiters out there. He has a good eye for talent and a lot of pull. I think he can turn that program around.

off espn;s comments... http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/4067233

"It's just crazy enough to work". Look for him to recruit nothing but shooting guards and have them run the point.

When does Starbury start as assistant coach

Good for him. Perhaps he can hide out and mature, grow with the school and his students/athletes.

If not for that disastrous Curry trade, he would probably still be here. He's got to make better decisions tho, and rein in his proclivity towards the negative. Man, just do right Zeke.
