Shaq had a pretty big "chosen one" label too. I think we tend to forget, but the NBA was much bigger back then and he was billed as the next Wilt. He was the most amazing combination of size and athleticsm the league had ever seen. Heck they even made a video game completely unrelated to basketball with him in it. He was quite the phenom.

I imagine LeBron in NYC would spur on a pretty similar phenomenon. I think it draws more casual fans to the game as a whole who are simply going to see him because of the very fact that he is in New York. His personality would extend well past bball- far moreso than it does now.

I don't remember anyone considering Shaq a doofy giant. From the start of his rookie year, where he broke 2 backboards (one during a national TV game), he basically immediately grew the reputation of being one of the most indimidating forces in the league.

Guys, lebron not coming here. Wake up! I think a more suitable chioce would be dwayne wade. Lebron has it going on in cleveland with best record in the franchise history and looks like he'll be getting a title this yr so why would he leave to play for the knicks. Knicks aren't a winning team and can't be in the same sentence w/ cleveland. Guards/ small forwards rarely leave their team via free agency.

D Wade's got it made in Miami... living on South Beach surrounded by the most gorgeous women in the world in the #1 party city on Earth... the world is his oyster & he's the man there... why would he wanna leave that for NY? Lebron's in Cleveland man... CLEVELAND! think about it.

and that fool went and got herpes from star jones. wtf kinda tricks is she turning?

Exactly. Shaq was popular with sports fans. Hard core fans, because he was good and dominant. But he didnt have a mainstream and universal appeal. There was a glass ceiling with him, tho, because of his size.

Lebron can be a global phenomenon.

“I said, ‘You won this game, but you gave me a gold medal, so thanks,’ ” D’Antoni said.

Wade said he told D’Antoni: “This is nothing personal. This is about getting a playoff spot.”

He also thanked D’Antoni and the rest of the coaching staff for “helping me get my confidence back and believing in me” after an injury-plagued year. D’Antoni made one more remark that caught Wade’s attention as he walked away, but Wade declined to repeat it.

“He told me not to say,” Wade said, then added with a grin, “It was something about LeBron.”

i think the chances are highly likely that lebron is coming to ny. i think the fix was in the minute dolan said "yes" to stern. isiah fired, walsh to ny, and d'antoni could *only* talk to chicago or ny w/ the loser getting the #1 pick...the FIX IS IN...lebron to ny, imho, is gonna happen...and i wouldn't be surprised if wade ends up in chicago.

kobe in LA, wade to chicago, lebron to ny...

and would you be shocked if the knicks end up with a top 3 selection this draft?

Its close- in terms of basketball Shaq is definitely one of the greatest players of all time and one of the players who most influenced world championships b/c of his presence. And he was about as marketable as any athlete in the mid 90's with his larger than life size and personality. Not only was he doing tons of commercials- he was doing movies, rap albums etc. It was a huge marketing opp for him to move to LA.

I think Stern will be easy on the draft manipulation given how much scrutiny there is over supposed NY bias in the draft (which is odd considering the only time we had a top 5 pick since Ewing was when Chicago had our pick --- people cant get over the fact that we won it in '85?????).

But he mos def wants Bron in NY. What the hell is he doing for the league in Cleveland right now?

Everyone should continue to believe that there is no chance James will choose to come to the Knicks. Then, if he does choose to come here, you will be ecstatic, but if he doesn't, which I believe will be the case, your disappointment will be minimal as you react to that which you expected.

If the Cavs win the title this year, I would say there is no chance for him to be leaving Ohio, and his goal will be to make the Cavs a greater Midwestern powerhouse than Jordan's Bulls were.

The person who always believes that the worst of outcomes is the probable outcome, is a person who will never be disappointed. Expect the worst, hope for the best, and do everthing you can to create your own success, without depending on manna to fall from heaven into your lap.

lebron signing with the knicks would be the biggest free agent signing in sports history (since arod was traded here).
I think it would be bigger than A-Rod because one player can dominate a basketball game much more so than a baseball game. You could see a huge change in the team's regular season and post-season accomplishments--unlike any change A-Rod did bring or even could have brought.

And the mental state (pride, excitement, optimism, etc.) of Knicks' fans would be altered to an exponentially greater degree than any impact A-Rod had on the mental state of Yankees' fans.

Would this be the ultimate international lineup or what?

Italian: Gallinari
Spanish: Rubio
German: Dirk
Canadian: Nash
French: Le Bron
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

If the FIX is So in, I hope it helps the Knicks get to the top 3 spots in the draft because that would help a lot in the Lebron-to-NY cause.

Keep the FIX on then!

I think the only chance LeBron signs with us is if he gets a really bad injury or something like that before then.
