I'm quite tired of this mess. Again as I have said if he was a 50 year old nobody sitting in a barco-lounger watching TV? Fine, don't have surgery, I don't blame you.

Yet, if you're being paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to throw an orange ball through an orange ring? Then you have to be responsible and go get the surgery to try to be the best player you can be.

This has dragged on NEEDLESSLY for nearly a year. No excuse for this. Hey, if he doesn't want to get cut I don't blame him one bit but if that is the truth then you know what? RETIRE FROM BASKETBALL and let the Knicks move on! Don't drag it out because then you just look like you are milking that contract to the very end. Which, thank god the newest CBA, has him expired in 2010. So if he is a bust he is gone next summer.

Allan Hahn is reporting that Gallo did not make the road trip and plans to have back surgery next week.

Yes, yet, months late. Many months late. Like 8 months late at the very least. I'm simply tired of this. Again, if he has a fear of surgery that is fine. As a fellow human being that is fine and I understand. Yet if that is the problem here then RETIRE DAMMIT RETIRE and let the team move on!

Yet, no, it was dragged on for an entire NBA season.

This kid has skills, we've seen it, it is obvious he can be a very good player. Yet none of that matters given this health issue. He has been unwilling to correct it for nearly a year. Anyone with half a brain could understand from the start this would be a surgery matter. Inevitable. Yet he did not want to do that and the Knicks allowed him to pursue other methods. Now we're right back where we started last July.

Pointless....and lucky for us and him we have a 2010-2011 plan in effect which has allowed him to take this approach.

how can you be so patient about a rebuilding process and want to rush into surgery?

What skills have we really seen other than him being able to shoot the three which I go on to say is better than him shooting the mid range jumper which he doesn't do that well. He is primarily a set shooter. Even his Italian league highlights show that. He has no lift, once again look at his highlights. I think these skillsets are now more myth than reality. He had success against smaller players on him. Quick defenders gave him plenty of trouble and I don't buy the bad back excuse because that was in his scouting reports. His handles are primarily exclusive to moving stationary to free himself for a shot not so much to get to the rim.

Bad back at age 20, my goodness, the Knicks have a mess on their hands.

They are two entirely different things. The rebuild will take some time which is an understood process.

A rookie pick who turned out to be an injured bust his first year is a separate situation which has become downright infuriating given how long the inevitable solution to the problem has dragged out.

We should have been watching a healed-from-surgery Gallo these past few weeks. We should not be talking about his impending surgery this far in the future. That is a conversation that should have taken place in August!

There in lies the difference.

This is a professional basketball team. One I have rooted for going on it's 26th year. This is not a focus group. This is not a little league team filled with kids of whose parents I know and we all joke around and root for the kids to do well. THIS IS A PRO TEAM. The Gallo situation has been bush league at best this year. It's downright pathetic how long it has dragged on. He got paid what a cool 3.5M to do what? [Terminator Voice] I NO WANT SURGERY [/Terminator Voice].

Pathetic....

He's a good shooter. He has a decent handle. He passes. He looks for his teammates. He plays defense. He mixes it up. He goes to the rim when it's there. He has a great attitude towards the game and his teammates.

I think he has a lot of skills that can only get better.

Now if you're talking about "Can he be a superstar" well to that I don't think so. Yet so far I can say I do not see anything that says he is merely Lampe.....and at the same time I have not yet seen anything from him that says he could not be close to Dirk either. I am not saying I see something that says he WILL BE Dirk yet all the same I have not yet seen something that tells me he would not.

I think we have a very good player on our hands. Yet, the health issue is a serious concern of which if not properly controlled will inevitably end his pro career right here.

I'm glad you're not a Knick Scout! They scouted him for years and you know more from a few games with him playing in pain? I think they have a far better idea of what kind of talent the kid has then you or I. From my own humble observations, the kid has more game than we got to see. I like his BB IQ which is very high for such a young kid. His 3pt shooting is freakin awesome. He seemed to actually hold his own defensively and this B.S. assessment that quick defenders give him trouble is crazy. He already has shown that he has the ability to create enough room to get his shot off and that was with him playing hurt. Hey tell me just how quick and athletic was Larry Bird?

Have you even been in the situation where you were in need of major surgery? Cause it sounds like you haven't.

If at all possible, for a majority of sports related injuries, you wait and see if time and natural healing can correct the problem. When that is exhausted, then you resort to surgery. I mean, the dude took the opinion of several back specialists during summer and thereafter, and they all said rest, exercise, etc were the best course of action.

This comes from the guy whose predictions and assessments have all gone down the drain. How many years in a row is that for you? Your humble observations means next to squat as far as I am concern. His points came from set up shots at the 3 point line. Open shots at that. When defenses began respecting his 3 point shot, he had trouble and by the way that is when we heard about the 60-70% excuse. When Bird came into the league, he moved quite well actually. He didn't become stationary until his back gave him trouble later in his career. Continuing to Compare this kid to Bird is becoming utter foolish on your part.

You just described this guy

Now, there is nothing wrong with that but you don't use a 6th pick to draft that type of player.

You can't make your own sorry assessment sound better by bringing up my final record predictions over the last few years. Let's just stick to evaluating talent. I haven't been wrong about the individual talent we have on this team. I actually think that there play has served to vindicate my support of them. How was I wrong about Lee, Nate, Chandler or Gallo?

Nice try tho. I know i'm an easy target to try and snap on the fact that the team hasn't lived up to the predictions that not only I but even Pro Analysts made for the team, but there are lot's of reasons that can happen and it's not always due to the potential of the talent you have.

Nix, you're a blind fan of the team. Nothing wrong with that but if management would draft a pile of dung and put in on the court you would be breaking down how the positives about having a piece of dung on the team can only help them. Your assessments aren't great bro.

Again you're just mudslinging and not really making a point. How was I wrong to be as effusive as I was that the players we had were good players? I think we've seen that they can play well at this level, even while still not knowing exactly how to win yet nor having this team be set up to win yet. We all know the team needs to be fixed, but the key young players we still have on this team are pretty good, especially when you factor in where they were drafted!!! The only real failure was Frye!

So far we still don't know about Gallo, but as I said we haven't had a fair evaluation due to his back. If his surgery is successful in getting rid of his pain, then we can get a better idea of what he really is. Still it will take time to determine just how good he is, but even you can't really knock Gallo's defensive ability given what most thought he would be. Most thought he'd be getting ripped every night, but he was tougher than most thought and he didn't back down despite the back pain, which everyone knows can effect your legs and any real explosion or agility. The kid toughed it out and gave good effort.

Who, Tim Duncan lite? Man, I remember how he was shooting the ball so easy early on in his rookie year. Remember all the talk about his poor play in his 2nd year being related to his injury from the Nate collision still not healed. Then teams started scouting and then... Where hype ends reality begins.

I still don't understand the rush to judgement on a rookie. If in year 3 this guy sucks then whine. But why now. I seriously think some of you guys love to pisse yourselves off.

The kid has shown some skills despite being injured. We downplay a dead eye 3 point shooter, like that isn't valuable. Most teams would kill for that and yet we poo poo it like it's not important. As for the rest of his game, he has shown us flashes. Then at other times he looked inept. Now was he being inept due to injury? None of us know, despite our belief that we do. Was his ineptitude due to not being able to adapt to other defenses? maybe. Will he be able to adjust to defenses as time goes by? We don't know because time hasn't gone by.

All I know is we have a rookie. A rookie with some talent who has a long way to go before we can evaluate what type of player he will become. I pray he is healthy and can come into camp ready to go. Why do I need to kill myself over anything else. None of us know what we have. So why rush to judgement at this point? Is the NY media steering us this way? I've read two articles about him in the press up here in Boston and they seem to think he's going to be pretty good if healthy. The rush to judgement on him only seems to occur in NY.

So a back surgery thread morphs into another "he's a bust" rant by some.

None of us know squat about how Gallinari's back will play out and what kind of player he will become. To make a definitive judgment about him at this point only illustrates the ignorance that passes for opinion in a society where we expect and need instantaneous feedback and immediate gratification. It is also the reason why Isiah traded off all those first & second round picks, by the way,

Gallinari showed some good things on the court, EVEN WITH THE BACK PROBLEM. He may turn out to be a "bust" in the long run because of his back or simply because he cannot play the NBA style game; he may be an average player with a good jumper, or he could be a very good NBA player with a complete game who helps the Knicks win a title some day.

None of us know for certain how he will turn out, and anyone who thinks he does is simply showing off their ignorance. Why not wait and watch, folks. As some have pointed out, people will have all the time they need to be critical of the Gallinari pick if he does not show us anything in the next couple of years.
