Do you want to build a Championship team or don't you?

If you do, how do you expect to win a Championship when 2 of your main players don't play any defense at all?

On a really good team, with balanced scoring and more than 1 rebounder, Nate and Lee can be expected to give you 12 pts and 9 rebs respectively. That can be easily replaced with players that play good defense as well.

Don't overrate these guys just because they've put up numbers on a poorly constructed team, playing a crazy system that inflates numbers.

Theres alot of truth in that. I agree.

then signing them both will put us in position if we decide to go for the moves you guys want to make. they're both ballers, young and HIGHLY marketable. other owners will want them to put tushes in their seats, nate for his hyper super-midget act and lee for his (code)all-american(code) appeal.

I don't disagree at all with what you're saying either Marv. I just think theres a fine line in where this could go - I don't know what I would do. All I know is I don't want this team built around these 2 dudes. If Walsh thinks he'll be able to trade them then fine.

How does signing them put us in position to possibly sign 2 max free agents?

Trading Nate with Jeffries when they had the chance would have done so.

Sign and trades. You can nab the first FA with cap space and a second one by trading assets like Lee/Nate.

by then trading them WITH jeffries and curry to open up more cap space.

teams would have been less likely to trade for a guy who's about to become a rfa. do it after we've signed him.

If the plan is to trade them anyway, why not just clear them from the cap and simply use cap space? The free agents we're after are unrestricted, not restricted.

I would be much more inclined to want to move both Lee and Nate if Rubio enters the draft. If Rubio enters, he has the feeling of a can't miss prospect that the Knicks should look to obtain.

Is this how Islanders do it?

To me, what's the hold up? These guys are 100 games under .500 for their careers.

100 games.

We can't give them big deals that take up cap space.

A nice move would be to flip Lee to OKC who has space, for an upgrade of the 9 pick to their #5 pick and a late pick.

If you can do that, I'd do it in a minute. No regrets.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
