I never had to come to terms with that because I always knew that the team isn't made for the future. There aren't any players on the roster currently that have proven they can carry a team and can lead the team. I don't believe in waiting for 2010 to do a overhaul of the roster because it really doesn't guarantee anything for the Knicks. They probably can move 2010 to this year and pick up players for the future. I personally would target players like Melo and Nash. This team needs players to build around and use 2010 to compliment these two players, with an eye on draft picks.
Well, the players here aren't meant to be made for the future. It's the scraps you get when you try to clean up Isiah's mess.
As to proving to lead or carry a team I think the few players auditioning for a chance to remain here beyond 2010 aren't being looked at as that but rather role players to the superstar plan.
As to moving up the date to build a winner? Given that we have ~50M in 2010 expirings some of whom are still decent players in al, duhon, the 09 pick, some young assets in lee, nate, chandler: If Walsh wanted to and it was there to be done he could easily pull the trigger on a Boston Celtic-esque sudden-rebuild scenario.
Those are rare though but if it were there we have the assets and would certainly do it if it made sense.
Yet, it's just unlikely, so unless(until) such an irresistible situation presents itself the current plan of liquidation will continue and fans are just going to have to understand the process and the inevitable time line involved in doing so.
