from what i've seen of Harden, he doesn't seem to have the type of athleticism & explosiveness that he's gonna need to be really good at the NBA level... i think he'll be a solid pro player, but i don't see him as having Allstar calibre potential... just MHO... i would take all these guys before i took him if i were drafting for this team:

Griffin
Derozan
Jennings
Rubio
Hill
Thabeet
Monroe
Warren
Teague

& i might even take Mullens over him based on his potential as well... Harden just doesn't excite me at all... i actually think the Michael Dickerson comparison is pretty close to how i see this guy's game translating in the NB at probably a higher FG %

The Bulls had a big win last night over the Celtics. They now have sole possession of the eighth spot and the easiest schedule of the teams that are in contention. There isn't going to be much change in teams that are now in line for the playoffs. It will be like this - or very close to it.

1. Cleveland
2. Boston
3. Orlando
4. Atlanta
5. Miami
6. Philadelphia
7. Detroit
8. Chicago

I'm following the nfl draft more closely than the nba draft and I see the same type of thinking there that I do here. People feel that because a player has size and speed that he just needs time and he'll develop the skills. It's true that you can't teach size and speed. But you can't teach brains and you can't teach timing. That's why I don't think Mullens will be very good as a pro.

What was wrong with Michael Dickerson. That guy was pretty good before he got hurt. I think Harden's athleticism is fine- its just not eyepopping. Not everyone needs eyepopping athelticism to succeed on the court, especially when the bball IQ is greater than most everyone else.

A lot of people compare Harden to Manu Ginobili, and that's a guy who's not a tremendous athlete, but plays an all around game and does everything on the court well. And he's about as close to a winning bball player as it gets (numerous NBA titles, gold medal etc.).

You play to win the game. Tanking is stupid. Where's the pride? We are an original franchise with only 2 titles. Priority 1 is to create and incubate a winning culture here. That means get our youngins their first taste of playoff basketball. And once you are in the dance, anything can happen. Ain't saying it's likely, but it is possible. Do what you can in the draft by all means. Try not to pass over the next Ron Artest for the next Fred Weiss. But why do you tank? Arkud has it right though: you play with the effort, and the effort is likely not enough. But let's get prepared for some luck, in case it bounces our way!

I'll second that, except for Monroe. I saw him live at the Verizon Center versus WVU and when GU lost... WVU has a real good team, btu no size, and Monroe didn't make a dent in the game. And being in DC their games are always on, and I never, ever notice Monroe, whereas while not athletic, Harden gets noticed as one of the best or among two or three best players on the court.

But other than that, I agree

Playoffs, for sure, if only because it will satisfy our most basic desires, urges, for playoff ball.

If we get a lotto pick and stuff, that's great, but those things take years to develop. As a Knick fan who has been starved for some type of excitement, action, over the last 8 years, then I say playoffs for SURE!

The thing is-- once a team is in the playoffs, there is HOPE, HOPE that warms a fan's heart.

Of all NBA clubs, the Knick fan should know best if only because of our '99 run.

I very much doubt that a sweep (a la Nets, 03, 02?) will occur.

Let's get us competing and battling-- and the experience for our 'UTES' is priceless, MAN. (Ill Will, Rooster, NateGreat and GleeLee)
WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

ur right, Mullens can turn out to be a bust just like any prospect... i just feel i would go w/the bigger upside potential guy than a guy that i'm not confident will ever turn into a star in this league... i'm not knocking anyone who likes Harden, i just personally don't get overly excited over him after i've watched him play a few games, especially that last one vs. USC, he came up extremely small in the clutch & he was the go to guy on that team.
