I guess the question is, do we have a core? Do we only need to add one piece? And if greats and other teams think we have keepers, do we keep them or trade them when their value is perceived to be high?

we have a core to build around if ur ultimate goal is to build a .500 type team that has a chance to make the playoffs every year... if ur goal is to build a championship calibre team then u need a couple superstar players, which we don't have & will never have if we decide to build around our current core.

not necessarily. you sign the guys who have been playing well for you, then you have options going forward for keeping them or trading up for them. look who boston got for jefferson, gomes, green and a draft pick.

theoretically i don't disagree w/u bro... if the aim is to sign our players w/the thought of trading them next year, then absolutely, i'm fine w/that... but u have to be real careful the amount u sign those guys to because u don't want them turning into Troy Murphy type albatrosses on our payroll that not many other teams will want to take on... u need to get those guys at almost below market value in order to preserve their attractiveness w/other teams, & i dunno if that's possible considering the way both these guys are playing right now... Jefferson is better than either of those guys by a comfortable margin, i think that's fair to say, & the Celtics also had a top lottery pick to trade also... if we had assets like that then i think we could land a superstar too, but we don't & it's not likely we ever will have assets like that if we decide to sign Lee & Nate w/the thought of keeping both of them as part of our core because we'll never be bad enough to get a top lottery pick & won't have the flexibility to make deals to acquire any franchise players who are already established.

Problem we've been talking about in the other threads is that it becomes really tough to start with the bench guys and then add key starters.

If we were in OKC's position with key starters, then you could add the role players like Lee, Nate and Al and go over the cap a little to do it.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I wonder what Danny Ferry has to say about the Knick's future?

Craig Ehlo, where are you?
