It was in Cleveland that Hughes enjoyed his greatest team success, making the finals in 2007. But his tenure with the Cavaliers was also marked by deep personal grief, including the loss of his younger brother Justin, who died of a heart ailment in May 2006.

The sorrow is permanently imprinted below Hughes's left eye, in a tattoo of two tears. Justin's name is inscribed on the left side of his chest. While in Cleveland, Hughes was also affected by the death of an aunt, and his wife had a brain aneurysm. He welcomed the trade to Chicago in February 2008.

"I had a lot of things happen to me while I was there, and I kind of needed to get away from that city," Hughes said of Cleveland. "It's tough when you have to drive down the same roads that you heard bad news on."

"If you put enough work in, you just build, you build to that level," Hughes said. "We got better every year in Cleveland. We got better every year in Washington. I'm not as young anymore. But I still feel like I want to put the work in. If I put the work in and we build something and we make it to the playoffs â€" first, second round, that's gratifying also."

When he was on the Bulls? Yeah. But he was pretty much starting on Cleveland.

Starting on Cleveland? He got DNP-CDs for every consecutive game for about a month before he was traded!

Fair enough. It's hard to know.
