ah, I hate to hear stuff like that.. the blazers announcers jumped conclusions and said ariza went for his head.. and he didn't, and they need to be a little more responsible.. Ariza swiped and got the ball and barely a piece of fernandez head. rudy jumped off one leg and he had no balance.. I wish him the best, I don't want to see anyone hurt, but I don't think ariza was trying to cheap shot him, or hurt him..

Ariza definately was wrong...especially with him running at the mouth after it. He knew what he was doing. He knew Rudy was in the air...he did go for the ball but he had no chance at it and made a irresponsible play. He was going for the hard foul. That is a very dangerous situation. He didn't even show remorse....he just went at the Blazers like "what!!!"

again I'm disappointed more at the Portland bigmen....I'm sorry but guys would have to fight over this. Rudy could have flipped and came down on his neck, or broke his arm....what if that indeed happened?

It would have just happened. Rudy isn't the most solid guy on the court. I seen similar swipes and no injury occur. Rudy just fell awkwardly. Actually I seen Rudy make similar swipes. If the NBA wants to be serious then make a stand and disallow block shot attempts.

come on man....that was not a clean block attempt. Like I said even if it was, it was irresponsible. Both cases stand for an ass whipping.

You do realize that players foul more often than block shots. That's why even great shotblockers can only average around 2+ per game. Ariza tried to block Rudy's shot and failed. Rudy fell awkwardly and got hurt. There is nothing irresponsible about it. I could make the same remark that Rudy failed to identify where the defensive player was (he didn't look back) on the court and the position but that doesn't mean anything. A bad accident occur on a basketball play. After that was another story. Like I said to avoid it and to take it out of the refs hands on deciding what is and what is not a basketball play, the league can disallow the shot block which would automatically be assessed a technical foul. Lee fans rejoice.

LOL.. then you would see more flopping for offensive fouls and maybe even more injuries with guys falling and flailing all over the place...

This "athletic" runing blocks from behind are good only for highlights.
This should be prohibited as dangerous play.
It is no reason to put players healts at risk just becouse of 2-3 highlight blocks per season.
Better be safe that sorry.

if you do that , then you take away one of the greatest and biggest series changing blocks of the past decade.. Tayshaun prince block on Reggie miller...

i'm not so sure he was trying to really hurt him, even if it was a very hard foul. tim legler seemed to say it right when he said ariza was going for the ball but from the other side, it was a frustration foul being blown out like that, and at that speed and the way he hit fernandez that's why it came out so bad.

as for odom, since apparently he actually never stepped on the court, it's possible he won't get suspended, because the rule states you can't enter the court. he was out of bounds the entire time.

OK, I just saw it.

Ariza did go for the ball but he clotheslined Rudy in the back of the head first. The spill he took was just nasty. He had feeling in his limbs but he had chest pains. I think the stretcher was a precautionary measure.

yeah, i don't see a long suspension, even if it was a bad landing. it was the spill not the hit itself that was so bad. he goes for the ball, but clotheslined fernandez. that's not good, but it will be more for the fighting that he gets suspended extra games.

I dont care what Ariza's intentions were. You can NOT do that and almost celebrate it.

ennyspree, he actually got a lot of the ball, it was a legit play.. rudy fell awkwardly, it wasn't a hard foul, just a hard and odd fall... ariza got mostly ball.. come on...
Watch the tape, please. Ariza barely gets off the ground. Your typical running-from behind highlight blocks (Wade on GHill [which was a foul that was not called], almost every Lbron poster block, etc) have one thing in common; the block attempter gets serious lift going for the ball. Are you trying to tell me, after honestly looking at the tape, that a certified hop artist like Ariza couldn't clear Rudy's head?!?!?
All Ariza was doing was using the anti-Lee approach to avoiding posterization. Instead of running away, you destroy the play.

Yeah, I've already sent that line to Clyde.
