how much better is Ellis than Nate if u really think about it? is Ellis worth $11 mil per for the next 5 years when u can just re-sign Nate at half the cost?

You don't think Nate is getting 8 mill per after the season on and off the court he has had?

who would we be bidding against tho? are there teams out there that will give him that much that we would have to match? i dunno... i can maybe see a little bit over the MLE, but not by much... of course if he keeps on putting up 30 pt games the rest of the way that changes things.

Nellie is just trying to get fired. The guy is just playing Warriors owner for cash.

He isn't trying to get fired. He wants to get Mullin out of there. There are several dicussions out there about his mental stability and not just on internet forums, the local press have been calling for his firing as well. Nellie telling everybody he isn't going anywhere and the owner absolutely loves the old fart.

Players who have been in Donnie doghouse just the last two seasons: Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Monta Ellis, Al Harrington, Marco Belinelli, Brandan Wright, Marcus Williams, Corey Maggette, Anthony Randolph and now Jamal Crawford. Meanwhile, he seems to adore the player with limited ability and heap praise on that player. I suspect it is because those players remind him of himself. Much like Larry Brown, Donnie falls in love with a player; has to have that player immediately; then quickly falls out of love with said player. He is worse than Brown actually at this. His on again, off again love affair of Chris Webber still ranks as the best example.

Mullin deserves better than what Nellie has been doing to him.

LOL I was thinking the same exact thing. I was going to write Nellie the offensive version of Larry Brown.

can't rule it out but i don't think it's likely he'll garner that much on an extension in this current economy... especially when guys like Monta Ellis & Gilbert Arenas are collecting huge dollars while sitting out w/injuries... plus there's gonna be other small G's on the FA market this offseason that will garner interest around the league like Mike Bibby & Allen Iverson... Nate's gonna have to compete w/those guys for free agent contracts.

Hawks dont really have cap space unless they let Marvin Williams and Bibby walk for nothing.

You look at the NBA economics and there will be some VERY good players available for the MLE. Iverson, Bibby, Rasheed Wallace, Ben Gordon, Odom, Artest, there will be some very intruging options out there.

Don Nelson is one of the most overrated coaches out there. Never liked him. To think people compare him to D'Antoni is insane.

why extend bibby when you have Law waiting in the wings?

also,

i doubt very highly any of those players you mention sign an MLE deal. they are still go to options on a team. they aren't getting the max but their worth more than the mid bad economy or not.

hell KT got 4 yrs 32 mil back in 05, Maggette got 5yrs 50 mil last offseason and they are nowhere near the gamechangers these guys you listed are

Biedrins and Jax, yes, but if you subtract Jeffries and add one of them, you'd be ok.

i don't think so... we'll have Lee & Nate signed to about $16 mil between them... throw in Curry, Gallo & Chandler's contracts along w/Biedrins' $9 mil cap hit in 2010 & whoever we pick in this year's lottery, u don't have enough cap space left over to sign a max FA & still fill the rest of the remaining roster spots w/live bodies.

[Edited by - TMS on 03-06-2009 10:04 AM]

I'm assuming that we'd trade Lee or Nate to get one of them. Jeff's salary is essentially the same per year as Jax.

I don't think Jamal can walk away from that money unless he is obsessed with winning. He'd probably have a hard time jumping to a guaranteed winning program anyway.

For the record...

Don Nelson wants Jamal to opt out
Don Nelson has feuded with Randolph
Don Nelson has Ellis so mad that he won't even join team huddles

Has he been drinking water from Larry Brown's faucet?

He won't. It's a depressed market. His stats are taking a huge hit. Would you excise an option to get 21M over 2 years - or would you opt out and get a contract of like 5 years 30M? For...I don't see who would offer more right now.

That team is a disaster. It's Nellie that needs to go. Ellis ran home in protest now. They want Maggette gone after signing him to that huge contract. They're over the cap already in like 2013 LOL. Bellinelli wants to play or wants out. Nobody wants to be there. It's hilarious they're chock full of long term contract gunners who all want out.

Presently they are the WORST franchise out there.

Careful naming them the worst franchise out there. Check out the Wiz and Indiana's cap situations.

I don't know if anyone can shake a stick at those three.

I am not sure if it is water he is drinking. He has already been warned by Stern and league officials to leave the booze alone for a bit at the very least stop bringing it to his press conferences and drinking it.

Nellie is an embarrassment. Screwed up an up and coming Warriors team in the mid-90s, had a humiliating NY run, and underachieved in Dallas. Now he's just trying to finish the Warriors off I guess.

MT-2, who is obviously on a roll, confirms and adds vast new information to what I’d heard earlier about Don Nelson encouraging/shoving Jamal Crawford to opt-out.

According to Marcus’ most recent report, Nelson not only told Crawford that he was sitting him for complete games in order to help Crawford opt-out this summer (if that’s what Crawford wants to do), Nelson also told Crawford that if he doesn’t opt-out, the Warriors will trade him.

Crawford gets word from Nelson
By Marcus Thompson II

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — According to multiple team sources, Warriors coach Don Nelson told guard Jamal Crawford that if he doesn't opt out of his contract, Golden State would trade him this offseason.

This conversation, according the one of the sources, happened a day after the Warriors' loss at the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 23.

Crawford said he still has not decided whether he would opt out, maintaining his focus is on "helping us win some games and finish the season strong." He has two years and just shy of $20 million remaining on his contract after this season. But he has the option to terminate his contract after this season.

"I'm not even getting into that," Crawford said before Friday's game against the Detroit Pistons. "Any conversation I have with the coaches or my teammates will remain private."

In the same conversation, Nelson informed Crawford that he would give him some games off in part to keep his statistics high, and the plan to rest his other veterans emerged in part to avoid appearing as if he were singling out Crawford.

In the past, Nelson said he had no interest in general manager duties or increased personnel say. Team president Robert Rowell, who is on the road trip with the team, said Nelson's message to Crawford does not represent management. He qualified it as Nelson being emotional. Rowell did say he isn't upset that his coach is unhappy about the team's season and wants to change things.
