Well, at least he starts in the DLeague...

It seems like Walshatoni are going to have to sign every waiver wire reject, most of the DLeague and then have Debusschere disinterred before they sign PEJr. Is this really so difficult to do? Isn't there some Marketing genius that replaced Isaiah's old girlfriend that can explain the upside of this to Doles in small sentences?

Did Pat Sr piss off Dolan, or did one of Walsh's granddaughters work at the Gold Club in Indianapolis and didn't get a big enough tip from the Ewester?

Or is DangTony such an egomaniac that he doesn't want any type of spectre taller than him anywhere near his bench?

Al Harrington, Chandler, Gallo, JJ, Q, Hughes. Those are the guys who have been getting minutes at the 3 spot where PEJ would likely get minutes.

I think DNichols is there at spot SG minutes to potentially spread the floor and open up things for other guys, something PEJ can't or hasn't done yet.

Maybe PEJ just isn't that good. I certainly don't think he's anything special.

The Answer Man Never Plays Favorites

jrodmc -Did Pat Sr piss off Dolan?

A. Not that we know of. Besides, Dolan only cares about Cablevision subscriptions and his guitar.

jrodmc - or did one of Walsh's granddaughters work at the Gold Club in Indianapolis and didn't get a big enough tip from the Ewester?

A. Nobody ever called The Big Fella the Ewester. The Gold Club was in Atlanta.

jrodmc - Or is DangTony such an egomaniac that he doesn't want any type of spectre taller than him anywhere near his bench?

A. Mike D'Antoni is doing a decent job of auditioning and winning some games in the process. As far as his ego, that is nonsense. They ALL have egos. The only variable is managing them and building harmony. I would say the Knicks have started down that road. There is a get fresh crew of 7 young (The Mayor, Gallo, Lee, Nate, Wilcox) and not-so-young (Harrington, Hughes) players to continue the discussion towards 2011.

I'm widit.

jrodmc - Is this really so difficult to do?

A. Evidently

Gee sh--eeit...we're talking about the end of the end of the bench here, folks! Garbage time, practice fodder. Not coming in 3/4 of the way through the season and having to spread the floor and make an impact.

Exactly what was Malik Rose doing for the last couple of seasons?

I'm talking about signing someone for pure window dressing.
And Cheick Slamb is something special? Wilcox doing a great job of spreading the floor? PEjr is an athletic forward, with some family star attraction. Tell me signing him isn't going to mean more (even if he only plays a few minutes after we miss the playoffs) than watching Nichols find his timing in 2 or 3 weeks.

Why should we sign PEJ for window dressing? I'm not interested in using bench spots on someone just because his last name is Ewing.

Family Star Attraction?

jrodmc - if that's the case lets go and sign Jason Kidd's son while he's still young.

Anthony Mason has a son.

Hold up, what about Ernie Grunfeld's son?

Hey, we can even sign Paul Silas Jr to Coach the team.

Family star attraction don't mean ish to Walsh.

Actually, there is a potential reason to place hope & emphasis on trying to develop some young cheap players into NBA capable role players.

The 2010 plan calls for getting way under the cap and possibly signing one or two max type players. With much of the rest of the roster gutted, we're going to have to find some cheap, but good players that can complement what we have. We may not have Hughes, so can Nichols develop in 2 years and become a cheaper, poor mans version?

And the past 3 seasons in the NBA showing that he won't obviously doesn't impress you?

personally i think signing PEJ shoulda been the next move to make... wasn't he playing in the D Leagues w/an understanding that he'd be signed as soon as the Dinglebury situation was resolved? do we really need another perimeter shooter on this team? either way these guys are gonna be garbage time players & IMO having a kid like PEJ who the fans would love to root for is better for the franchise than having someone who won't get any burn regardless.

It would have a better feel seeing PEJr check into garbage time and possibly posterize someone than watching the bench cheer when Jupiter James hits a flat footed layup that tears his achilles to shreds. Or his knee, whatever it was...

jrodmc - Nichols will get a look at guard.

Whether it was depth at forward, or something other than his on-court performance, Walsh knows what he is doing in not choosing Junior.

His head is so big, he would never be able to get down the court in D'Antoni's offense.

Plus I love all that time Kidd spent as a Knick.

Did Pat Sr piss off Dolan, or did one of Walsh's granddaughters work at the Gold Club in Indianapolis and didn't get a big enough tip from the Ewester?

Yes, where to begin.
1) Ewing refused to do Wiz and Cablevision commericals for the Dolans. Both Charles and James Dolan were outraged. Even the press bashed Ewing for it.
2) His refusal to promote Knick events and participate in fan friendly events such as signing autographs, Knick summer league kid camps and being a jerk to the press (Spree and Camby didn't just learn that on their own).
3) Gave them hell about Riley's situation. Dolans outraged that Ewing would ask them to consider giving Riley a percentage of the team.
4) Made his feeling known very well how he felt about Nelson when he took over for Riley and it forced the Knicks into paying a hefty salary of a coach that was still half way into year one of a sizeable contract (this beats Brown's one year deal and Dolan mentioned that two years ago).
5) Went directly to James Dolan to demand that he be traded instead of coming off the books which by the way a slap in the face of his friend Checketts.
6) Embarrassed the Knicks with the Gold Club trial (nice to hear how your franchise player is receiving fellatio favors and being forced by FBI agents to testify against would be mobsters) while that is going on the media reports about his brief affair with the Knick City Dancer which cost him his marriage and the Knicks Rita Ewing (a favorite of Checketts and the Dolans).

There is more which Vecessey would be glad to expand on. I give Ewing credit for acting like there wasn't any bad blood and amazed about how the Knicks are treating him. That's one good acting job or the man has really changed like Clyde believes.

All the other points are well taken, but when did being a jerk to the press bother the Dolans? Are you serious?

Jeez, why'd they bother retiring his number?

You'd think he would have been banned from the building by now.

Liking someone and doing something for the sake of good business are two different things. James Dolan loves Allan Houston and Herb Williams and has no problem giving them jobs post career. Dolan doesn't care for Ewing and has no desire to treat him the same way. That's human nature. Retiring his number has nothing to do with that. The man holds nearly all Knick records and at the time was a future HOFer. What franchise or organization wouldn't hold a simple ceremony to do that? Good press in a dark time.

But that's my point from the beginning; signing Jr would be good business -- more feel good crap. Another story to keep people from even wondering what the 3-troll is doing in green. Even if the kid did nothing but keep Malik's old seat warm, you know it's got to do something for the people in the building.

Never mind. I'm arguing about good business practices with an organization that actually admitted to keeping Frederick Weis's rights.

Nichols is better than PEJr but we have the room to sign both so why not sign both. Would be good to have PEJr's rights for summer league and training camp next year.
