I'm amazed. The Bulls must have just had too much of a log jam in the backcourt to get him any run.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Let's be honest this was a move to solve the Q problem! It was only a matter of time before he'd show his impact for this team. I don't see how anyone could doubt Hughes would help. Q has really underperformed and we really needed a SG for a long time, so this seemed like a slam dunk to me. My only concern was if Hughes would learn that MDA wants good shots and not just wild chucking. Everyone assumes this system is about throwin up a ton of shots and it's more than that.

even a broken clock is right twice.

Good defense, and a real site to see a real 2g who plays on both sides of the ball.

Redistribution of Shots / Coming To America

Hughes and Gallinari cut the cafeteria line for the shots Nate left on his trey. Chandler and Harrington were solid. Lee was Lee and Wilcox got a taste of picks and rolls.

That was six guys who started sharing the ball in unique ways.

Duhon makes seven.

Even though Atlanta played like slouches, that was no slouch team - the Hawks.

My kingdom for a legit center. The Cheikh Samb era is here.

Hughes looked good but it was because he did not force shots and instead took his shots within the offense. When he does that, he shoots at a higher percentage and looks alot better. The question is now that he has some confidence, will he start jacking up shots or will he remain disciplined and continue to pass and take only open shots.

Chemistry

When the Knicks faltered last night, they simply started jacking up three's. The Game makes an excellent poin t about Hughes keeping his head up and not just fixed on the rim. The good news is he gets out and runs. A few times Hughes was so far ahead upcourt that Duhon was forced to accelerate his dribble and catch up.

Cool

If, and it is a huge IF, this crew can learn the joy of hitting the open man, and Nate develops some rhythm with Gallinari on the second shift...

... you better have your tickets for Game 3 of the first round matchup against the Celtics, just to savor the moment Stephon Marbury reports to the scorers table.

A Positive Sign

“(Gallo) can shoot it and he doesn’t have to move,” said Hughes, whose defense helped keep Hawks’ All-Star Joe Johnson under wraps with 18 points. “He doesn’t create a lot of space, but he’s just one of those guys that has an eye for the basket. A couple of plays he didn’t create any space and he shot it, and he knew it was good.”

Chemistry between Hughes, Chandler and Gallinari (all who have deep range AND who can get to the glass off the dribble) could be fun to watch.

again, it had to be expected he would look real rusty his first few games... i dunno any NBA player that can come in cold from over a month of inactivity & start knocking down shots right off the bat.

Good call. We still have some bad habits, where the game gets rough and we fall into the habit of trying to win it ourselves. Everyone wants to hit a big three or take their man. It's a learned experience and we haven't learned the proper way yet. when they do start to understand that if they hit the open man they are a tough team to stop we will finish games and quarters much better. Still need that veteran presence to teach these guys IMO
I just hope that people will like me

I've been hoping that Hughes would drive the ball to the basket since he got here and he started to do that last night.

Even Gallo tried to take one to the hole.

That's what we need to do to win these games in the 4th quarter.

Relax, Fellas, he's going to turn around and give us a CrawfulEsque week soon enough. You know, 14-84FG. However to get on him for opening 4-22 and being slow after not playing for so long was wrong. I knew he'd get it together enough to contribute for at least half the games he played. Just don't expect him to keep this kind of shooting up. He's a streak shooter and always has been.

Still, a nice addition, unfortunately too late, it'd had been nice to have a SG all season. Too bad Mobley had to retire. What a difference it would be if we had a 2G out there all year - we'd probably be in 8th place right now.

Ah well. Next year.

Cosmic - the glass is half full

Just think if Donnie Walsh never swings a deal and Tim Thomas is hoisting three's, jogging back on defense and smiling all night.

Count your blessings.

dude is 4-11 in his first 3 games as a Celtic... i don't think it's fair to judge him based on that sample either.

he'll be a nice addition for next year's squad... i really think Donnie made these trades to stock up on depth for possible offseason trades more than to make some push for the playoffs.

The three free throws were clutch

The upside of Hughes, beyond sending Quentin Richardson next to Herb Williams, is that his defensive ability at 6'5 provides some camouflage for Nate.

All of a sudden the backcourt takes on a new defensive personality, which eases the pressure on the three spot a bit.

I never weighed in either way, but I am glad he is doing well here - this franchise needs things like this to happen. Reminds me of when Spree showed up and re-energized things.

hughes has been everything we need the last few games, and clearly why we won the last two.

his defense on the perimeter is WAY better than any guard we've had, where he gets his hands in the passing lane and is physical with his man.

i've been really pleased thus far.

let's hope he keeps his offensive game steady. he wasn't so on yesterday, but he found other ways to be effective, and hit those clutch fts.

yeah, i've been trying to think of a better perimeter defender than him that we've had since the Spree/Childs/Ward days & i couldn't think of one... he really adds an element we haven't had for a long time... him, Q & Chandler really played tough defense last night late in the game that really made the difference.

If Hughes didn't wear that ugly "0" on his uni he might qualify for the masthead with a few more decent defensive showings.

He makes Nate better
