this guy has the next Mutumbo written all over him. This is the same as getting another first round pick. I was shocked we let Randolph Morris go without somekind of long term deal as we were still paying for the loss of Jackie Butler. A new era is dawning.

Lets see Islesfan try to put his d-bag spin on this. Even he cant

LOL. It took me until the second sentence to realize your were being sarcastic. "It is like getting another first round pick" is just classic.
To be fair I think there is a lot to be said for finding guys hungry to be in the league willing to work their tails off for every minute they get. There are tons of them and many have become very good players. Brad Miller, Darrell Armstrong were not drafted. Von Wafer is playing well. Of course our own Starks and Mason back in the day. Nick Van Ex was another good one. Sometimes they are just role player like Ben Wallace in Orl, othertimes they show the kind of heart and hard work and become bigtime players like Ben Wallace in Detroit.

We have a good system, we have a style of play and we have a team of guys that play together like they enjoy playing together. I could totally see us finding a diamond in the rough in these next two years. Strikes me as the right environment to find a guy like the above

Has 5 fouls to give, has gotten stronger since he entered the league (means he is trying to improve his game), and he can block shots. Sounds like a good guy to throw into the mix every now and then.

Don't know how he fits into the flow of the offense, but it would be nice to have a guy who could block a shot and intimidate folks in the paint.

Cheikh Samb (pronounced "Check Sahm")

Hopefully the over-the-top MSG announcer will get it right

Why OH why can't Mike W tailor the volume and tone of his scoring recognitions to match the flow of the game?

Day-vid LEEEEEEEE! is just too much for each and every hoop.

The silly, stereotypical abuse of pronouncing "Danilo Gallinari" is embarrassing

2007

Mystery Scout Number Two

"Samb has good hands on the offensive end, catching most entry passes thrown his way, and he exhibits decent touch on his hook shot inside five feet. He's a bit slow with the release on his hook, but his release point is extremely high, making it very difficult to block when he has the time to get it off. Samb's accuracy suffers with the hook when he drifts outside of the painted area, though.

Samb also has the groundwork of a mid-range jumper in place, not possessing the greatest form, but having a high release point and good touch, as he's hit a few shots from the 10-15 foot range here in Vegas, even using the glass on occasion when necessary. Samb has also shown flashes of passing ability, hitting cutters and feeding fellow big men out of both the high and low post.

Defensively, Samb lacks in fundamentals, specifically with his post defense, where he gives up position fairly easily. Samb's very high center of gravity doesn't help in this area either, as it's tough for him to get low to hold position on the block, and he doesn't really like to use his body much there. Samb is a pretty good weakside defender, due to his length and size, though he's sometimes slow to make rotations, and he doesn't recover well on second efforts due to his lack of quickness. On the glass, Samb does a good job consistently pursuing boards with his size, but he doesn't always box out, and he has more potential as a rebounder once he gets his fundamentals down."

You can use this guy is certain circumstances--i.e end of late game defensive possession--enbd of half and Q defensive possessions. If we are getting severely wounded inside for 3-4 minutes etc... he's not bad.

I like this guy. I think he can be developed in a backup center. Hopefully he sticks.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Speaking of Jackie Butler. This is still the best Jackie Butler story, one of the best NBA scrub stories

August 18. Chandra S, a faithful reader of MediaTakeOut.com, thought that she found her Prince Charming when she met NBA forward Jackie Butler. But she soon realized that the bulky ballplayer was more like the Prince of Thieves.

Chandra first met NY Knicks forward Jackie Butler at Jay Z's 40/40 Club a few months ago. The 6-foot-10 inch 260 pound Butler, who has since been traded to the San Antonio Spurs, seemed to be immediately taken by the lovely Chandra. According to her, "when he first saw me his eyes opened up really wide."

After a night of good conversation, Chandra and the chubby forward decided to go back to his place - and that's when things began to go wrong. Chandra explained, "he was coming on to me very strong and I told him I was tipsy." And when she finally agreed to have sex with him, it wasn't at all what she bargained for. Chandra tells us, "he laid on top of me with all his weight ... breathing hard like he was out of control and kissing on my neck." And after it was all over she claims, "I went into the bathroom to spit several times and then I finally threw up."

When Chandra got home the next day she realized that she forgot her $600 Avirex jacket in Butler's jeep. She immediately contacted Butler and asked him to return the jacket, but he refused. Chandra, a receptionist, even offered to pay to have the jacket shipped to her, but the $7 million NBA player still refused. Finally, Butler stopped taking her calls.

I hate this move. Terrible, just terrible.

Exactly. This is not a long term signing. Samb may help us win a game or two if we put him in at the end of the game alternately with someone like Lee at each possession in games that are going down to the wire.

Why Samb and not Sene?
I am curious what the coaching staff saw in this kid that differentiated him from Sene, a lottery pick. This should be a no brainer, a shot blocking 7 footer is missing from this roster. Even if he alters just a couple of shots in late game situations, he would be worthed.

Sene has had microfracture surgery so that kind of makes him more worthless.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.
