He does have a weird obsession with all things New York, but also with JZ.

How's the Ratner deal going anyway?

He likes the Yankees and likes Jay Z. I wouldn't call that an obsession. I would call him a front running hip hop lover. He's only 24 so it makes sense.

To me, there's 3 big issues with him leaving or not - (1) the money, (2) him being a hometown Cleveland guy and (3) what can the Cavs do to improve even further.

(1) Money's an issue but shouldn't be an end-all in this - Cleveland will be able to offer a couple of million more than anyone else but supposedly 'Bron might have a secret handshake deal in place with Nike for a rumored $100 mil. if he signs with the Knicks. Hopefully Nike still has that on the table because that's huge for us if it's true.

(2) I wish he wasn't from the area out there because that really hurts us as a potential suitor (he grew up in Akron, about 30 mins. outside Cleveland I think). I mean, they have a really successful team right now (it's true that he TOTALLY makes that team though - you take him away from the Cavs and I agree they're probably on par with the Knicks right now, maybe not as good even) but the fact remains that he grew up there - it's gonna be tough for him to pack up and leave. You figure if he decided to leave, he'd have to pack up and take the whole clan outta there then and who knows how many family members he has in the area. His family would have a tough time living there if he decided to bolt. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though - he'll be wealthier than God - just relocate all of them. But bottom line is that he's from the area so who know how far that goes with him. There's gotta be a sense of loyalty there I'm sure.

(3) Not really sure what Cleveland's cap situation is in 2010 off the top of my head but I think I read that they'll be in good shape. AFTER they make a big move or two themselves, they can go over the cap to resign LeBron with no problem. That's huge for them. If they wind up making a committment to add a Bosh or a Joe Johnson, the Knicks are finished I'm afraid, esp. if Cleveland remain successful this year and next.

Bottom line - I want him bad - I know we all do. I just don't know what aspects in this whole thing he values more. I know he likes and craves the big stage and there isn't a bigger stage than NY so I'm still remaining semi-optimistic. We'll have to see...

Cleveland will have more cap room than New York when all is said and done. Wallace, Wally and Z's contract comes off the book. Danny boy has said he isn't taking back anymore salary to hurt 2010. Their plans is to add another superstar to help James out while adding younger talent. James likes Mike Brown as well. It's funny how people want to sell this notion that he loves D'Antoni so much but only spent a couple of weeks with the guy. By the way, the last time I check Brown took his team to the NBA finals with only one superstar while D'Antoni couldn't get there with a MVP, a Superstar and an all-star. Lebron is smart guy who is very media savy. He says all the right things. His first season he said it was no big deal to play at MSG, now it is a honor.

If LeBron wants to go to a big city and be an icon in that big city then New York has as good a chance as anyone to land him.

If LeBron wins or gets close to a ring in Cleveland while still there and gets a hometown-kid feeling then he's just going to stay.

I think both teams will be able to have an acceptable supporting cast at that time to accommodate him. Right now CLE has the better team but that's not going to be the same team in a couple of seasons they will have to shuffle their deck or rebuild outright around LeBron.

I don't know why we can't just let this all play out. We're giving ourselves a chance to land him which is all we can ask of management.

Can we just sticky a Lebron 2010 thread so we don't have to deal with more of these threads? Please???

LeBron is nice. It's like winning jackpot in NY lottery.
Get you luck for free.
No pain of building the team, go through ups and downs, develop players, style, identity.
Just get LeBron or better 2 LeBrons and get the chip. Easy cool life.

It will be much more satisfaction to get it without LeBron, without luck but because of smart determined management, bright coaching, and hardworking, talented, smart players who grow in front of your eyes.

Give it up guys, some of these posters just wont understand that Lebron isnt coming here. They just wont get it until Lebron rejects the Knicks in 2010. So lets all just sit back and watch until the time is right.

I don't think the odds were every high that we'd get him anyway. The important thing is to have options to add a top tier talent or two. IF we can get Bosh and Wade that would be great. Even If it's just Bosh or Wade that may be enough to make this team a contender. We have to develop this team and it's talent despite the chance of getting Lebron or not. I actually think we're in good shape.

Remember how not so long ago many felt that Chicago and Toronto were so far ahead of us and on the way to greatness due to their personnel decisions and draft picks? Well I don't see that those teams have been able to make any improvement since then. We've got a lot of good talent and some options to add to that. Lebron isn't the end all, be all for us to be a contender.

whether he's coming here or not is besides the point... the point is until u reach 2010 u gotta keep ur options open... looks to me like our GM is of the same frame of mind, & i'm fine w/that.

I don't care that much if we get LeBron. I'd love to have him, but I'm more concerned with the Knicks franchise getting back on track, which it finally seems to be doing.

It's very simple.

If we get LeBron in 2010, the people who said cap room is worthless will have to man up and STFU.

If we don't get LeBron in 2010, it doesn't prove anything, because until Walsh got here, we weren't even in the sweepstakes. We were putting teams out there where guys like Jamal Crawford and Eddy Curry were the key pieces. The fact is that plan A for 7 years wasn't working. So we're trying something different.

But by all means, if you guys were so happy with the Isiah years of trading expiring contracts for $100 million contracts, please petition MSG for the "Best of Isiah" DVD. Maybe this will keep you occupied so we don't have to hear your constant unfounded negativity.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

He has the perfect situation in his hometown, his team is on the verge of a final. I don't think money is an issue, even though Cleveland would be able to offer him more than us, plus he is so phenomenal that he would get exposure/endorsements even if he were playing in Alaska. Sh!t even in the football commercial he is in, he is starring for the Browns. Who else is on our radar instead of Bosh, Wade, Amare??

He's from Akron, Cleveland is not his hometown.

Basically, this is pure speculation. None of us are privy to any insight as to whether Lebron comes to the Knicks or not.

This is just my feeling, and I am not saying folks don't have a right to an opionion, but I'd really wish we would try to resist declaring he's "definitely" coming, or not because we all have no real basis in any evidence for such claims.

The other more important point is that there are other FA options besides James, and also in 2011, when we will free up more cap room (say if we can't move Curry or Jeffries).
