Teams are desperate for financial relief and the Knicks eat a $20 million expiring contract out of spite.

Where's the logic in that?

which team made a trade for financial relief at this deadline?

Sac and NO for 2. And plenty of others are looking for relief. How many teams are taking out loans? The Knicks have 1 blatant advantage over most teams and they chose spite.

New Orleans? What else did they do other than have to take back Chandler?

Sacramento? For the 15 trade they made they saved about 47 dollars lol.

Where did we choose spite? During the trade deadline? How? Doing what? You want us to take on 2010 and 2011 gigantic contracts just to recycle Marbury's 09 expiring? The best thing this franchise did in a LONG time was finally let a MASSIVE expiring deal.......expire...so WE for a change are the ones saving cash!

I don't see the spite in that.

The only spite we'd be engaging in is if we waive Marbury on March 2nd. THAT would be out of spite and would be very unprofessional.

If Steph gives back? Let him go free. If not? Send him home until the summer.

Just please, under no circumstances, waive him on March 2nd. Then all we will hear and read is how pathetic the Knicks are for screwing with a player's playoff eligibility, how things never changed, we'll have players and media crucifying us for it, we'll have other GMs saying how dare we shape the course of a player's future, league officials, etc, all up our asses.

For what....to giggle at Marbury like a 12 year old girl who got back at some other 12 year old girl for looking at her boyfriend?

Gimme a break...do the right thing here.

$21 million dollars is a hard dollar amount to match up & still not take back any longterm contracts for players we could use... i don't think not trading him was out of spite, why wouldn't the Knicks wanna be rid of Marbury's contract if they could get players that could help them now while not effecting the 2010 plan? i think it was more that there were no takers for Marbury's contract for any players unless they had horrible contracts that their teams wanted to unload by any means necessary, like say Vince Carter or someone along those lines.

Marbury is so dumb, he should have just given up 3-4 million at the start of the season, signed for that amount and he probably would have gotten himself a reasonable deal, with a team like miami

If I am the knicks I don't realease him or buy him out at this point there is no reason to, no reason to help the guy out.

I think he's upset Isiah isn't here - for we would be basking in 2012 and 2013 long term deals in return for Marbury and Malik.

What's happening is Walsh is clearing out the trash - even if with lateral moves - and Isles is running out of players to hate on.

Don't worry, Isles, just wait until you watch Larry Pukes. You'll be invigorated with a new found hatred all over again.

what Marbs should've done was to accept the chance to start when MDA gave it to him earlier in the season & swallowed his hurt pride... that woulda benefitted himself, the Knicks & the fans... doesn't matter now cuz the team doesn't need him & the fans don't want him back except for a select few of his relatives that post here.

He's the best option for a team looking to pick up a veteran guard off of waivers for a playoff push....hey, wait a minute, we're looking for a veteran guard for a play off push....I say lets let bygones be bygones...bring back Marbs

Walsh today on the meeting upcoming: "If it's something good for the Knicks and something good for (Steph) then I think we will buy him out."

So, it's up to LeprechaunBury. Walsh's last offer was what... 3M. Steph's last was what, 1.4M (he would pay the 400K fine, and give up 1M).

It's all you, ConferenceBury, you want to go free, pony up the 3M.

And, if he doesn't, Walsh just please send him home until July. Don't play the little kid game of cutting him March 2nd terminating his playoff eligibility. If you want him out of the playoffs then send him home until July. *prays*

i will agree w/that... doesn't really make a difference now if we cut him in July or in March either way... we have roster spots open now so cutting him does nothing for the Knicks other than giving the newspapers more fodder for articles about DistractionBury & gives him another reason to talk trash about the Knicks' franchise about how he's being made a victim of unfair treatment that isn't deserved... the funny thing is there are fans who will fully buy into that & call the Knicks the bad guys for giving Steph the type of treatment he's deserved for a very long time.

Fuck Marbury. Why buy him out? Let him rot, he doesn't deserve the opportunity of going to a contender.

If he agrees to your terms than you do the professional thing and buy him out and move on as a team. If he doesn't agree to your terms, you owe him nothing but his money. If you are paying him anyway and he won't agree to your terms than you let him sit. It doesn't affect you either way. No need to pay a guy on his terms so that he can go play for someone else that you are competing with. It's just not smart business

Nah im happy he choose to stay away. That decision was the best thing he could have done for the Knicks this season. If Marbury suited up and played again then there would have been some type of circus events to follow. Sure it would have made UltimateKnicks an exciting place but it was better that way.

----------------------------------

If Marbury accepts the 3mil buyout, I would buy him out no problem. Who cares if he plays for Boston. We can't beat Boston with or without Marbury. Duhon & Nate would probably give him all he can handle at this point anyway. What backlash would we really have to deal with? A couple of articles on how Marbury and the Celtics beat the Knicks, who cares id rather save the money.

I also have a question? Would the 3mil be taken off the cap and actually become 6mil because we wouldn't pay luxury tax or would be pay luxury tax no matter what?

Could very well see it come to an end next week.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Either way, it really doesn't matter at this point.

*So without Marbury the Knicks can unseat the Celtics in the playoffs but with Marbury the C's crush the Knicks?

No, the C's crush us either way but Marbury still gets to gloat....wads worse if its zenbury gloating not starbury

Eh, we shouldn't let such things bother us.

Meanwhile....

With the arbitration hearing between Stephon Marbury and Knicks brass still set for tomorrow in New York to dispute his $400,000 fine, the Knicks' point guard and Donnie Walsh are planning to meet privately, man to man, before the legal battle.

According to a person familiar with the situation, the two will go face to face to see if they can work out a buyout settlement and avoid the legal hearing altogether.

Marbury has already offered to give back $1 million of his remaining salary and drop his appeal on the $400,000 fine he got for allegedly refusing to play in Detroit. The players' association spent the weekend preparing for the hearing, in which coach Mike D'Antoni will testify.

With the trading deadline over, Walsh has no reason to keep Marbury aboard. Marbury will take his $1 million giveback off the table March 1, when he'd no longer be eligible to be on a playoff roster. Marbury has told The Post the Celtics have given him a verbal commitment to sign him as a free agent.
