yeah if the best pro-2010 deal was to dump nate with jeffries, then walsh did the right thing. we'll have this summer and another trade deadline to find a taker for jeffries or curry.

Crush - How are the expiring deals of any use to us if we can't take on anything longer? We'd have to be bringing back Bosh or LeBron to use them and stick to the plan.

Fish - The fact that the Nate trade didn't go down doesn't mean we get to keep Nate. It means that we'll eventually lose Nate and Lee. We had to move Jeffries or Curry to be able to keep Lee or Nate.

That didn't happen.

Now we're left with trading one of our young guys at the 09Draft in order to get rid of one of those deals. I don't see another way around this.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I don't know about THAT now. I can see us losing one (most likely Nate) but definitely not both.

We have four really: 09 draft, 09 summer, 10 deadline, and if we get a pick somewhere along the line in a side deal the 10 draft.

As to Jeffries, as long as he does not go down in a heap of toothpicks as he's prone to, we will probably have another shot to move him. I'm guessing if the Kings gave up a 1st round draft pick the deal goes through. I'm guessing they didn't and if not it was a steep price to pay to dump Jeffries.

As long as it's not a hindsight of doom in the end. Gotta remember, it's not just holding Jeffries, it's also then maybe paying Nate. So the 2010 implication could be as much as ~13M depending if/what we keep Nate for - not just Jeffries ~7M.

I agree. There is no rush to make that now. We have 1 1/2 years to position ourselves. No need to dump guys at all costs now for 2010. A lot can change in 1 1/2 years. All the top free-agents could re sign with their teams in 1 1/2 years. So if you dumped a guy out of desperation now your back is against the wall. You may as well hold out and wait for the right deal. Then if you can't unload Jeffries/Curry you and all these guys re sign you at least are left with roster flexibility and cap space for 2011. What's the rush? Outside of wishing that we could get another 1st rounder back, what is the actual complaint? Is there one? And if the draft pick is the concern, let me remind you, the draft hasn't occurred yet.
I just hope that people will like me

And one other thing: If we have the cap space a team can S&T us their player, we can absorb the majority of the contract with our cap space, and throw in Jeffries to finish the deal (2011 expiring at 7M), and that team gets a huge trade exemption by doing this.

So, it's not an end all, but it does raise questions how it will be handled.

You don't go from the outhouse to outer space overnight. I'm happy with the moves we made, and even happier with the moves we didn't make. What I'm happiest about right now is that we cleared some dead wood and have two roster spots to add a little more depth. While we didn't help our cap situation for 2010, we didn't hurt it either and we became a little more balanced in the process. Looks like we have a steady hand on the tiller and a damn good coach to boot.

Better days ahead folks

I certainly give him high marks for these trades. So much roster junk was unloaded for serviceable players. Next on his list should be to right the Marbury situation and the ledger will be clean.

I am happy to see a deadwood being shipped out in return of someone who can contribute. No idea HOW anyone can complain about that.

I have to say, the new banner on the front page has me laughing out loud, with Donnie Dubs in the corner there. Someone suit Donnie up and have him run point!
