Supreme- but your basically made an argument for eFG% with what you wrote. Actually when you look at TS%- since it takes into account how great Kevin Martin is at getting to the line, it moves him up to the 28th most efficient offensive player in the league by that measure and far better represents his true value than just his .419% FG%
Yeah, I guess I did... maybe the better way to put it is I prefer to interpret that from the base stats. I think that Durant should be reward for shooting less threes at a higher percentage though.
I understand Martin is a more efficient player though than his shooting percentage... but I imagine Jamal Crawford appears pretty efficient because he shoots well from the line
But it doesn't over inflate him, because it takes into account the amount of times he gets to the line and the amount of shots in the denominator
TS% = Pts/(2*(FGA + (.44*FTA)))
oh... to be honest, I have spent much time learning these stats... I guess I like them and didn't even realize it
Do you know where that coefficient came from?
Its an adjustment factor for FTs. Because basketball analysts usually express statistics in terms of possessions, an adjustment needs to be made for the fact that two free throws do not always constitute a possession. Three-point plays, three-shot fouls, and technicals all increase the number of free throws per possession. Thus, we need to use something less than 0.5 when multiplying by free throws to calculate possessions. They'e done some analysis on this and the number came out to be 0.44.
