Supreme- but your basically made an argument for eFG% with what you wrote. Actually when you look at TS%- since it takes into account how great Kevin Martin is at getting to the line, it moves him up to the 28th most efficient offensive player in the league by that measure and far better represents his true value than just his .419% FG%

Yeah, I guess I did... maybe the better way to put it is I prefer to interpret that from the base stats. I think that Durant should be reward for shooting less threes at a higher percentage though.

I understand Martin is a more efficient player though than his shooting percentage... but I imagine Jamal Crawford appears pretty efficient because he shoots well from the line

But it doesn't over inflate him, because it takes into account the amount of times he gets to the line and the amount of shots in the denominator

TS% = Pts/(2*(FGA + (.44*FTA)))

oh... to be honest, I have spent much time learning these stats... I guess I like them and didn't even realize it

Do you know where that coefficient came from?

I wondering how 6 extra field goal attempts a game (compared to middle of the pack team for attempts) for the entire team can really inflate a single players stats.

It's not a wonder when that single player is taking half of those extra field goal attempts.

Its an adjustment factor for FTs. Because basketball analysts usually express statistics in terms of possessions, an adjustment needs to be made for the fact that two free throws do not always constitute a possession. Three-point plays, three-shot fouls, and technicals all increase the number of free throws per possession. Thus, we need to use something less than 0.5 when multiplying by free throws to calculate possessions. They'e done some analysis on this and the number came out to be 0.44.

So in other words, you have to adjust it down by 0.5 because you get 2 FTs per possesion, but because of 3 pt plays, that number isn't exactly 0.5.

How do you determine this?

Always nice to see VDesai dropping science. Keep up the good work. I forgot how TS% is calculated. Should be a more widely known stat.

Oh and who's the new guy? Bippity? Sounds like a dude who never played ball is his life, wouldn't know the first thing about coaching, and definitely not a guy that will last on this board. But welcome anyway.

So now that Nate and Lee are putting up serious stats, its because they are a gimmicky system. The numbers are clearly inflated. Same I guess with our win total in comparison to last year. Got ya

I personally don't care if a guys numbers are inflated by a system. Why does that matter? It's about how a guy plays in your system that matters. If a guy is playing in your system and playing well, who cares if the numbers are inflated. Chris Duhon, Lee and Nate are getting more opportunity with us and their numbers are somewhat inflated. This doesn't mean that they haven't gotten better. I'm not even sure that I understand what the argument is.

I care about a guy's numbers being inflated by a system. Like, is it about the number of posts made, or the quality of insight related in those posts?
