Shaq would be awesome here with DLee and Duhon. Gallo, TT and Harrington would have a field day from the perimeter.

I proposed this trade a while ago and still am in favor of it. Why would the suns do it? Um, because 20 million dollars comes off their books at the end of the season. And if they choose not to keep Nash, that's another 13 million. Thus, just by trading Shaq and dumping Nash, they could save 33 million in a couple of months. The Suns don't even have to have Marbury step foot in Phoenix.

As for us, it's obvious. Shaq would still be one of the best centers in the east for this year and next, and then his contract goes poof. Doesn't interfere with 2010.

Seems like a reasonable trade to me.

I think Dinglebury is the only option for the Suns if they want to shed his contract. Would this be considered starphuching?

I dont know what the hell we need Shaq for, but I am tempted to sign off on this just to see Marbury back in the desert. That would be too poetic, and yes Kerr would get skinned alive by some yahoo the minute he steps out in public.

Man I don't get it. Before I get to Briggs contradicting himself on how we should proceed, ask yourselves this - why the hell does Phoenix do this???? First forget that they had Steph once before and got rid of him -- they already have Nash, a two time MVP, to run the club. I know he's a little older now but he's still productive - he's still an elite level PG that's gonna need to play 35-40 mins, esp. once they hit the playoffs. And they still have Barbosa off the bench as their spark plug. Where the hell does Marbury fit in?? The Suns have underachieved some but they're still right in the thick of the playoff hunt. They're a dangerous team that still has enough talent to go all the way a-la our '99 Knick club - in fact they're better than our '99 team. You don't think they're thinking playoffs out there right now? How does this make the Suns better??? And don't give me "they'll save $20 mil. next year trading Shaq now" nonsense. Cutting cost by dismantling that team isn't an option right now, not when they have enough talent to arguably win it all this year... They have plus talent at almost every position. Elite level talent in fact. Why break that up by dealing for a player they don't even need?? Makes zero sense for the Suns. Pheonix should be fine - Kerr thinks he has enough to win and that he just needed a coaching change and that's probably all he's prepared to do at the moment unless someone blew him outta the water with a deal for Stoudemire. They already made their major trade to get Jason Richardson - they're going for it!! J-Rich screwed up and he's paying the price right now but he'll be back - he only got 1 game right? I wouldn't screw with that team right now. If everything broke right and they met the Lakers in the conference finals and say Bynum never made it back or came back at less than 100% - you don't think Phoenix has a shot to beat them and go to the finals? Man I do...

Briggs, just stick to the plan you outlined the other day bro. The one where you said tank it out, get the best possible pick, maybe look to deal this pick for an up & comer like A. Randolph or Koufos or possibly trade down for multiple picks all while gearing up for 2010 free agency. That I support. That's the way to go. Not making some deal for an aging player who's still decent but doesn't get us past Boston or Cleveland. Shaq works on Phoenix - they have the rest of the horses in place already to make a serious run. We don't. And what's with "we would sell out every game next year and the rest of this year and have a chance to go DEEP into the playoffs with all that additional playoff money" comment you made mean exactly? I mean you sound like a Dolan employee or something. Who cares if we went 0-3 & got ousted in the first round but Dolan was able to pocket a little extra revenue from those games? I couldn't care less about that. It's all about being patient and building this thing the right way now - building a team to WIN IT ALL eventually not just make the playoffs and extending the season another 3 games or so. No excitement in that for me.

OK, truth be told, Shaq comes off the books after next season so just like adding Al Harrington, I guess it couldn't hurt. You originally said get Shaq for the next "2-3 years" I immediately I shot it down thinking he would still be on the books, but I looked to it up - he's off by 2010. So, yeah OK I guess it couldn't hurt to add him, but I still don't see Phoenix doing it. I mean why would they when they still have a shot to win? And say adding Shaq equals another few wins and a playoff berth where we go out in the 1st round. Then where's that leave us in the draft? I'll tell you where - maybe 5 spots below where we need to be drafting...

Now that's just unfair. I know for a fact that BRIGGS waits at least one full hour before changing his opinion.
