Terrible decision by Walsh. We needed a PG because it should have been clear even then that Marbury had to go (which was another bad decision by Waslh because he should have resolved the Marbury situation before the start of the season). Chalmers was a borderline first round pick who proved he was a clutch shooter. Everyone knew this guy had talent. Considering the millions that the Knicks waste on players that contribute nothing, paying $2 million for a second round pick was a very small cost to add a solid player to the team and even giving up a future second round pick would not have been a problem to me.

Walsh then compounds the error by signing Roberson and cutting guys like Von Wafer. Other than the Crawford for Harrington deal, Walsh's other moves leave alot to be desired.

Von Wafer sucked during his time with the knicks, didn't he?

Was this a terrible decision by Walsh or did he have a choice at all? The Twolves sold the pick for 2 future second round picks and cash, which the Knicks didn't have. I don't know if Walsh's offer was beat or what here.

That's a steep price for a 2nd round pick no matter how you slice it.

If he had made that trade and Chalmers was injured or something, you'd think that Isiah had made the move. Trading two future picks and cash to take a flyer on a kid now is something he would do, but Walsh would not.

there was a whole draft video behind the scenes with steve kerr and the suns this year where he basically was shocked he was able to buy a pick from the spurs for $350g's to draft that dragic kid. if the knicks really wanted a 2nd rounder, they probably could've gotten one.

Wasn't it that Walsh had a deal for a 2nd round pick lined up IF Chalmers would still have been available BUT he wasn't? I'm 99% sure I read that awhile back.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Dragic pick was made after the Chalmers pick.

IF you want to say that we should have picked up a late 2nd rounder to stash a Euro prospect, I can agree with that. Maybe there just wasn't one out there.

What ever happened to that Tiago Splitter dude.

Well he had the deal on the table for Zach and would have recieved a second round pick, he perhaps could have used to get chalmers or deandre jordan. Instead he took back straight **** and filled a roster spot.

Right now Gallo looks like a huge disaster especially with, Lopez, Randolf, Bayless, Gordon, and DJ on the board

Do yourself a favor and look up the definition of "hindsight" before you use it incorrectly...again.

Hindsight-- recognition of the realities, possibilities, or requirements of a situation, event, decision etc., after its occurrence.

Now that we have that squared away, perhaps you can not be so egotistical to think that every disagreement with you is an incorrect usage of the English language. So, let me clarify--- $2M is a cheap price. People clamoring for the Knicks to pick up additional 2nd rounders referenced the Blazers purchase of 2nd rounders for roughly $500k each. At $2M, the cost of a 2nd rd pick seems a bit steep. But, in hindsight (that is, the recognition of the realities, possibilities, or requirements of a situation, event, decision etc., after its occurrence) $2m for Mario Calmers doesn't look like a bad deal.

Honestly, why are you angry. Is it daddy issues?

2M is kinda steep IMO especially if he ended up just being another Roberson. Then you paid 2M for him and then paid him nearly 1M and another 1M in tax to have a failure of a 2nd round pick. All 2nd round picks are (or should be) considered huge gambles and likely busts until they prove otherwise.

In this cost cutting time would it have been prudent to fork up to 4M dollars for a 2nd round pick that could have been a total bust? I don't think it would have been.

As pointed out, in hindsight, if we had a crystal ball, we do it. That's unrealistic though.

They should have bought the pick. They've been dumb about that under both Isiah and Walsh. If you love a player, get him.

Who cares about Chalmers I wouldve taken Jordan I cant believe more teams didn't jump on that

and yeah it's OK to pay guys 5-20mm to sit on the bench and cause problems but not ok to spend 1-3mm at the draft just the F stupid atmosphere that will haunt us until Dolan is gone.

No you know what it is. A lot of Knick fans are fed up and embarrassed with 8 years of really bad basketball with no end in site. Until they get off the deck they rightfully should be continually hammered for ineptitude. It's not whimpering--it's called reality. I don't think Dolan has the right to run this thing into the ground just because he owns it--he's obviously one stupid guy when it comes to running a basketball team. If he's smart in other areas--then maybe it would behoove him to move on and let someone else run this club--sell it and put the money to work elsewhere.

ok. Reality is the team is forming an identity and has a future. Reality is the two biggest contracts attached to Isiah's "we cant win with these players" are gone in Zach and Crawford. Reality is the one FA we signed has been a tremendous pickup. Reality is fans clamor for rebuilding but freak out everytime some other guy that we passed on has a good week. Knick fans have no patience. Thats reality

So any time there is an offer on the board for a 2nd round pick at $2m it is a mistake to not take that offer? In fact, based on Martin's post Miami gave up two (2) 2009 picks and cash for the pick. We couldn't match that offer if we wanted to.

Listen, if the Knicks make mistakes like Isiah's mistakes--- like sexual harassment, or mistakes like signing Jerome James to a 5 year full MLE deal... or adding trade kickers to JJ2s and Curry's contracts, well... hammer them. But to make a business call not to spend $2M on a 2nd round pick, even if that pick turns into a decent player... well... I disagree.

woulda been nice to have bought the pick to take Chalmers, but at the time i don't think there was any need for a PG on this team... anyway Duhon's doing a much better job than Chalmers, what's the big issue?

Isles is a troll, but Briggs you should know better. If you want to make a point that hey it would have made sense to pay for Chambers (in hindsight) fine, but spare us the drama. Amare? Bynum? OK.. You can go look at every GM in the sport from Colengelo, Kupchik, Petrie, Walsh and West on down and every one has blown a draft, everyone has passed on a good player and drafted a bust. What makes them good GMs is they stick to a plan.
Walsh hasnt even been here a year and he has turned this operation from a total joke to a team that looks like its got a plan. Our guys play hard, we have some assets are we are considered a FA hot destination in 2010. If you want to build something let it be built. If you like a player let us know about him. I for one an always interested when you post about college players to watch. I could care less about the daily rantings about how we are doomed because we didnt draft a guy with the body of Kate Moss. Its old and boring. You can do better

Please improve the quality of your posts or I will go back to talking about nothing but the skanks I whore around with and start posting pictures as well. I suspect if you dont come up with some fresh material that will actually be quite welcomed.
