Papabear Says

It is not a sure thing that we will be a better playoff team in 2010 than we will be if we make some deals today. I doubt that Lebron Jame will leave Cleveland to come to New York. Let's work on what is real today and try to get better now. We all may be dead in 2010.

This franchise doesn't know what it wants to do. I'd bet that the GN and head coach each have different goals. Walsh would love to see the team tank so they could get a better draft pick and D'Antoni wants to get into the playoffs at all costs.

It'll be interesting to see if Walsh will gut the team at the trade deadline, assuming he can find takers. It would be the smart move. This year's first round pick is too important. They can try to make the playoffs next year.

The Knicks will be able to get a player that will help in the long term even if they sneak into the playoffs. The only player that has a legit chance to be a franchise-caliber player is Blake Griffin. But there are plenty of players that should be quality rotation players, and a surprising amount of points that should be solid NBA players with patience. And I really don't think there is too much difference between the talent levels of guys that would be drafted at the latter part of the lotto and where the 8th seed drafts.

Walsh disputed he'd be happier missing the playoffs to get a lottery pick since the Knicks don't have a 2010 first-rounder.

"I think it's very valuable to make the playoffs," Walsh said. "The playoffs are a whole different ballgame."

What else is he supposed to say??? Especially when they charge crazy amounts to their season ticket holders.

It's counter intuitive to collect players that he can dump for cap space in 2010 but then say that getting those players playoff experience is the most important thing.

Don't let the facts get in the way of trying to dump on Walsh. Everything he has said and done has been consistent (Cap room and stay competitive)--just like your negativity towards the knicks. Also getting playoff experience is for players like Lee, Nate Gallo, Chandler NOT Harrington, Jeffries, Rose. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Agreed, BigRedDog. The argument was that Walsh and D'Antoni have different goals. When it's pointed out that they both want to make the playoffs THIS year per talks with the media, the argument then changes to: well, Walsh is obviously lying.

Why is he lying? Because he is not making moves to make the playoffs? I think his first objective was cap room. Next was stay competitive. Then was make playoffs. Making the playoffs was not his first objective so I don't think he is lying. At this point he is trying to have roster flexibility to make the rifgt long term move. We have 3 weeks till the trade deadline so lets see what happens untill then.

Not sure, but to clarify, I agree with everything you said. My point was that islesfan said that Walsh and D'Antoni had different goals. Once I showed a quote from Walsh which bounced that, islesfan said Walsh is obviously lying. Which I think is, not very obvious at all based on what you and I have both posted.

The quieter the Knicks are as we approach the trade deadline. The more I think that a trade is going to go down.

Eddie Curry would have been the prime trade chip Walsh put his focus on, but we all know he isn't trade able at this point.

Maybe Harrington going into the starting lineup wasn't just to stop the slow starts. Then there is Nate Robinson.
