i guess from the title of this thread the goals of some of us are different... just putting together a contending roster is not what i think should be our ultimate goal, it's winning a championship... not to say i think if we don't win it all in 2010 it's a failure, but that is going to have to be the drawing card for a guy like Lebron to want to come here... he's not gonna leave CLE to come to a contender... he's gonna leave CLE in order to win championships in NY, & i think the best way to make that appeal to him is by bringing in another superstar to play w/him.

I agree with that- but the biggest problem I have with the notion of adding two stars in 2010 is Lebron and whomever we want to come are going to be looking at, I think, a rather thin supporting cast.

Isiah did a great job of adding two young up and coming stars like N8 & Lee- problem is timing with their potential pay days coming due.

I'm all for being in a position in 2010 to be a player, but I also think we need to grow some more of our own talent, and this 35 win flirtation with the play offs is going to cost us in the draft this year.

I'm all for trying to win now- but I think Walsh could have done better for 2010 by trading Crawford for a first rounder & filler instead of Harrington. Yes, we would have taken a step back this year, but we could have added youth & possibly been able to move up in the draft this year, or had a pick next year.

If we were in a position to add a player like Thabeet, and he showed promise of becoming a defensive stud and non liability on offense, then I think even with this current group and Lebron in 2010, we'd have the parts we need.

Again, we shouldn't forget that we'll also have more flexibility coming in 2011 when Curry and JJ2 come off the books.

Then again, any team would be a contender with Lebron.

no one's forgetting that... 2010 is a separate issue, we're gonna have cap space the following season regardless of what we do... the better max FA's are available the year before... 2011 is the year to sign a 2nd tier guy IMO.

as far as supporting cast goes, the only difference really is replacing D Lee w/another max guy & possibly the absence of Nate... ur also looking at more & better draft picks this year if u trade those guys anyways, so that achieves ur goal of going after picks to build through the draft... we will still have Chandler, Gallo & whoever we draft this year regardless of which direction u go in, but u also have the ability to add another promising young prospect if u go the direction i'm proposing... i don't see why everyone keeps repeating the same misconception that we won't have any players left if we go after 2 max FA's in 2010.

MS,

If all things are equal what sense does it make to leave your team that's already competing for a Championship to come to another team (where the talent is equal or less then your team) that hasn't won a playoff game in 10 seasons?

I think that fiinally with MDA and Walsh in place we've gotten what we should've had last year, a chance to see what our young talent could really do. Now that we've gotten a much clearer picture, I don't believe it's far fetched to say that adding Lebron would in fact push this team to title contending level, +/- a couple of key pickups to round out the roster.

I say this with more confidence because of the coach, which must also be added to the equation. IMO MDA is an above avg coach and he makes a difference. He's brought the level of play up so far this season and I expect that the longer the players are under his guidance the better they'll get. Superstars like Lebron really do bump up the caliber of teams when they have a solid cast to support them.

Papabear Says

I can't see Lebron Coming to New York when his team is close to winning it all. Now if his team was bad and management wasn't doing anything to make it better, then he might leave. Lebron has family and friends in Cleveland. The Myth of him being Global by coming to New York is missing one thing. We live in an internet Global world. You can reach any city in the world by the flick of a button. We have it backwards, we say New York will build Lebron but it's the other way around. Lebron can go to any city in the NBA and put it on the map big time. Now it wouldn't have happened this way if he played on a bad team with a loosing record every season.
