Jeffries needs to hit the bench until he starts making layups.

Jeffries sux.

He is not even guarding centers. Mike D needs to let Chandler try to guard point guards and see what happens. A few games ago Jeffries was -17 on the court yet he still gets to start. It's like Jeffries get unconditional love from Mike D.
I think MDA is aware of his roster and what these players can and cant do. I also think he's aware that if he wants any chance of coaching a star FA like a Lebron or Wade that he needs to get JJ playing well and traded, along with Curry. I think its a forgone conclusion that Curry's year is done but if we can get JJ playing well enough to trade him or package him its a layup

It ain't happening. JJ2 is a marignal player at best. No one is trading for a 6'11 SF/PF who cannot shoot and can barely make a layup. His defense is solid but not at a elite level and he does not excel in rebounding, shot-blocking, or passing. Given that IT gave him a trade-kicker, there is no way we are getting rid of JJ2 unless we package him with Lee or Nate or Chandler.

Even The Answer Man Doesn't Own A Yardstick To Measure "Heart and Fire"

Q. Cosmic - The skills seem to be there but where is the heart and fire?

A. I love it when people judge intangibles based on superficial glances.

Don't fall into stereotyping ballplayers based on their exterior. Walt Frazier NEVER changed from his poker face. Never. Do you remember the afternoon Clyde was elbowed in the back of the neck by Chenier in a nationally televised game? It was priceless. Chenier didn't like something Walk had done and nailed Frazier in the open court. No foul was called but the television replays caught it. In some people's eyes, Frazier would have been justified if he snapped and retaliated by hitting back. But there was nothing. No "heart or fire". Walt nonchalantly turned back, just to check who it was who hit him.

What followed was sheer beauty as the expressionless Walt Frazier proceeded to drop about five consecutive jumpers in Chenier's face down the stretch. Knicks win.

Chandler is not a demonstrative player. That is not a problem unless it affects how he gets after McGrady on defense, (which he did an excellent job of). He may be quiet, but The Mayor is not passive in how he plays the game.

I would rather have a player exercise "heart and fire" by working on his game.

(While the team was off Sunday, Chandler went to the MSG Training Center and got some work in anyway. - Hahn)

“I was in there for a few hours," he said. "I worked out the whole time and my body just felt good.”

the question about chandler is where does he disappear to like he did for 4 games in a row when he was just sleepwalking out there. guys's gotta demonstrate more consistency if the teams's going to be able to rely on him.

Marv - c'mon, Chandler hasn't played a full season of games and now he's depended on to be the go-to player?

Certainly, he had a stretch where his game slid. But he has shown the ability to respond before after a down game. That is a good sign. The fact that he consitently works hard in the gym speaks more about his potential than any facial expression.

I look forward to the day when Danilo Gallinari can match Wilson Chandler's stats, and the subsequent fan reaction.

earl with all due respect i think you’re overreacting a bit, as we're all prone to do regarding our favorite players. my comments re: the mayor have simply been in response to a very obvious funk he was in over a 4-game stretch where he contributed very little on the floor and seemed totally out of synch. last night he was terrific.

i think comments about his recent play have been accurate and fair. i hope like hell he works through it and shines consistently like he did last night. this guy could be a very major player for us going forward but i think it's fair to still make observations and raise questions based on what we do and don't see from him on the floor.

Marv - of course i'm over-reacting.

What else do you expect from The Mayor's campaign manager?

One problem with quiet guys is that they have a tendency to play despite injury. That is not an excuse but a reality that young guys face - who don't want to be typecast as "soft". Note his comment about his body feeling good after a workout.

Perhaps D'Antoni saw something in his body language that was not about being passive - but playing with pain?

Think about it. Could Chandler's post workout comment be a quiet guy's way of saying "I was not feeling 100% but played anyway"?

Injured and hurting are two different things

Martin - and you know the intimate details of each players day-to-day health how?

The one time I was in an NBA locker room on game day, I was surprised by the number of players that needed special treatment of various aches and pains, hours before tipoff.

Jeffries sux.

Jefferies is absolutely the worst player I have witnessed putting on the Knicks uniform. His defense is so vastly overrated it amazes me why he even sees light of day on the rotation. Forget the blown layups how many time do we have to see him leaves his man open on swithches, and how many time do we have to see players hit jumpers in his face while he tries to recover. Last night I counted three trips in a row where his man shot in his face because of lack of defense.

I know D'Antoni sees it and he usually responds with a hook to get Jefferies out of there.

Don't get me started on his offensive skills.

plus he looks skinnier than he did even in college. and his body language as soon as he steps on the court screams out, "abuse me!!!"

Like I've been saying, Chandler is going to be a nice role player.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System
