See, he is shooting better ;)
For those of you unfamiliar with JR. it's a nice read in the quoted text below, the link I mean. Well, if he is in our future, we will know in the next month or so.
Patrick Ewing Jr. was a big-name acquisition for the Bighorns of the D-League back in December, but he struggled with his shooting early.

Things are now starting to pick up for Ewing, with the former Georgetown Hoya averaging 17.9 points and shooting .520 (78-150) from the field in his last 12 games. This is a marked improvement for Ewing, who shot only .344 and averaged 10.5 points in his first six games as a Bighorn. He made his first start of the season on Saturday, scoring 21 points with seven rebounds and five assists in a win over Bakersfield.

TKB scouted Jr. in person a month or so ago, and his athleticism, as well as his IQ, stand out. As much as I think he’s still a part of the Knicks future, I’m starting to doubt it. But I will still hold out hope.

PEJ will be on the team before the end of the year. No doubt in my mind.

As you can guess, I'm praying the same, but I say by the trade deadline or just after.

The holdup imo:
We are holding onto Roberson as filler (Just in case of a trade).
Still waiting on the status of the DPE.
Still waiting on Marbury.

Can't wait to see Jr. in a Knicks uniform. For those of you pissed at seeing us pass on talent in the last draft (2nd round) and with some other players, wait till you see JR. in two years, I say he will be better than Balkman or Ariza, much better and with a better all around game clearly.

Can someone explain what it means for a D-League team to be "affiliated" with an NBA team?

I see that the Bighorns are "affiliated" with the Kings and the Knicks...do these 2 teams have any more of a claim to sign PEJ over any other teams? What's the point of the affiliation?

I think they're trying to liken it to baseball. I'm guessing only the Kings and Knicks has the right to call players up from that team so I think the Kings could snatch Jr. up if they wanted to. Jr. isn't on our roster so he's basically up for grabs between us and Sacto.

I think it basically means they sort of have a relationship with us. Any players we want to send the the d-league would go to that team. I'm not sure about the financial obligations though. Now, ONLY PLAYERS SIGNED BY US, are our property. Ewing Jr, because we released him, does not belong to us (any more).

So, any player in the d-league can be freely signed by any team, IF they are not already under contract / signed by an NBA team. For example, Sean Williams was in the d-league for a few weeks, but he belonged soley to the Nets.

Hope that helps some.

No, any team can sign any player from any team not already under contract.

Thanks for clearing that up. Though I think the league needs the broaden it more to make it a true minor league system. The Lakers own their own D-League team. No real reason we can't too.

I agree and I think the NBA agrees. I think the d-league is sort of like a "step" in that direction. I wonder if the d-league could really take off though. Imagine having a minor league Knicks team? Imagine, on occasion anyway, having a minor league game before the NBA game. I mean that would be a great way to promote it.

I follow the Yankees and they (as other teams) have many minor league teams. Why can't each NBA team have just one? The idea of us sharing a minor league team with another NBA team is a bit funny at face value, and thanks as I wasn't away the Lakers had their own team.

Double headers at NBA arenas would be awesome.....call ups and minor league assignments would be awesome too...but this strikes me as a big players union issue and something they have to work out in collective bargaining.

I think the Player's Association is against a minor league system because any traditional minor league system has a two tiered payment system, where if you are in the minors you get paid considerably less than if you make the big show. The way things are set up now, if a player gets sent tot eh team's affiliate, they still get paid like they would on their parent team.

I think you would have two classes of players in the d-league or minors. On one hand you would have some first and second round picks. Their contracts would be valid down there just as they are now. It's those undrafted players that would fall into a 3rd pay group. When ever they were called up to the NBA (which would probably not be very often since they were undrafted or a few years removed from college) they would be payed at the minimum NBA salary on a per game or what ever basis they agree to. Why would the Union have a problem with that, that is job creation?

That's not really much of a comparison. As a matter of fact, if he's just better then either Balk or Ariza, then I'm not that impressed.

I agree also. It certainly gives players like Jr. a chance to go somewhere local, with more then enough talent for competition, to see what the D has to offer for teams looking for any quality pieces it might need.

Also would be a great place for players to go when rehabilitating back into shape from injuries.

i personally think Donnie's gonna work out a buyout w/Marbs after the trade deadline & PEJ will take his spot on the roster once he's released... i personally believe PEJ is playing in the D Leagues w/a tacit promise from the Knicks that he'll be joining them for the 2nd half of the season... u might also see some moves being made in regards to Nate & D Lee that might open up extra roster spots as well... this year's trade deadline will be very interesting to say the least.

PEJ would be a nice, cheap add to the team. we could use an energy, rebounding forward off the bench.

let's all hope he doesn't smoke the kush or else he might end up getting traded away to open up a roster spot for another Anthony Roberson.
