It may be too early to evaluate his "athletic ability." You can see that his legs are still not there yet- he has much better rise in the Italian clips you can find online.
I want to see that left hand I got used to seeing in the YouTube highlights. He is totally ambidextrous when driving to the basket and can get full extension with a very nice touch on his off hand shots. We have still not seen him go to the foul line- where he used to go 5-7 times per game in Europe.
If I recall correctly, he was a little bigger in the upper body at the summer league. I hope that his back, which I believe was injured through poor lifting technique, does not keep him from working on his upper body during the off season.
I really wanted us to get this kid in the draft, but I am cautious by nature in terms of making predictions on players (I have been wrong on enough players to know that predicting how a player will turn out is more like gambling than science.). However, IF his back does not become an issue again, and IF his athletic ability reaches the level that it was when he played in Europe, and improves as he fills out and becomes a "man," I don't see why he can't be a top 20-25 player in this league and get into a few All-Star games at some point in his career.
Would people be happy with 18-20 PPG, 7-9 RPG, 4-6 APG, 1+ BPG, 1+ SPG, and 40% from the 3pt line? I don't see why he can't reach those numbers if he remains uninjured and ends up at about 235 lbs and 6'11".
I can't even remember when was the last time we picked up a "special" player in the draft. M. Jackson? Ewing? If things go right, Gallo can be a special player- versatile and multifaceted , smart, personable, leadership abilities, a guy you can build a team around, competitive and a winner. He has given us a little taste of what he can be- I only hope that he is the real deal and not some kind of mirage.
You'd be happy with those #s...dude do me a favor and scan the NBA stats and tell me all of the players averaging 18 pts, 7 rbs, 4 assts, 1 block and 1 steal a game - while also shooting 40% from 3. I don't think the list will be very long...but let me know.
I'm going to guess there may be 2-3 players doing what you think will be acceptable for Gallo.
I say something like 15, 5, 3, 0.5, 0.5 and 40% on threes....but DAMN hopefully you are right on this one because I love me some ROOSTER.
He's been getting like 10 pts on 15 minutes a game. With 30 minutes, he might put up closer to 20 pts a night with 4 - 6 rebounds, 4 assists, a block or two and probably 2 ro 3 steals the way he plays the lanes and uses his hands. Another damn good pass last night, not of a rookie.
