let me get this clear:

colangelo traded tj + #17 pick for jermaine

now you want them to trade jermaine AND 2 #1 picks for marbury

briggs my friend, you need to eat your wheaties...

That my friend is called a brutal trade. If you buy a boat for 50k and find out it has a very expensive problem that makes it not seaworthy--would you take .50 on the dollar or possibly get nothing out of it. Right now the offer is cap room and financial flexibility vs the picks. Depends what they want more. Being a player in this years crop is nice because you have little competition. You could possibly swing a Ben Gordon and an MLE of Marion.

yes but even if they remove JO's $22 mil off their cap next year, they still won't have enough cap space to sign any max guys... so this just leaves them w/o a 1st round pick this year & fiscal savings for ownership, but no real gains in terms of talent being added to the team... IMO if you're Bosh & your team does this w/o gaining the ability to replace JO w/a better player, i don't see how it makes him wanna remain there to play when he becomes a FA.

That puts them at 45mm which would be under the cap enough to sign a player to a 60mm contract in a year where cap space is rare around the league. It's either that or go with the same team which is brutal with Oneal better without him. Yes they can get a pick to help the team next year--but my bet is Bosh would rather they bought a 60mm vet and a full MLE with NBA players that fit their system.

u don't get a MLE when u have cap space, & they would still need to fill other slots on the roster, so really u'r talking about replacing JO w/someone like Jamal Crawford or at best, David Lee, & hoping that will take them over the edge to winning in the playoffs... i just don't see how that would appeal all that much to Chris Bosh in a contract year.

Actually, I'm not so sure about that TMS. I think it was Andrew who found that you can get an MLE if you have cap space, although I don't remember the specifics of his findings.

Nah, we put that to bad a while ago. If you start the offseason with cap space you can't get an MLE. that's the whole point of it being an exception. Its in Larry Coon's FAQ on realgm

I think the mistake you are making is placing a value of a healthy J Oneal from 5 years ago compared to his gimp status of today. He has a one year contract after this year--exactly how does that affect Chris Bosh going forward especially with his physical status? If I was Toronto I would try to get the cap space for next year when no one has it--hard enough to get players to go to Toronto--Im sure they dont want to compete with half the league in the FA market. They *could* get two really good younng proven NBA players next year if they played their cards right.

i certainly am not thinking JO is the same player he once was, but he's also not garbage either... he's been injured the past several games but before that he was putting up some very solid statlines for the Raps in many games this season... as for his contract status, it helps Bosh in TOR because when JO becomes a FA in 2010, it frees up the cap space for TOR to offer Bosh a max contract & still target another near max level FA to play alongside him... if they make that trade u'r proposing now & then sign up some 2nd tier talent like D Lee or Jamal, that pretty much squashes any cap space they'd have in 2010 other than the money to retain Bosh... the FA class this season is not all that good, other than AI there aren't any premium names that will be available, unless u think J Kidd will make Bosh wanna stay in TOR beyond 2010 all by himself (not that either AI or Kidd would make any sense for TOR w/Calderon already on the roster longterm)

if Donnie were to pull that off he should be named GM of the year by default... i have a hard time imagining any team giving up 1st round picks to take on Dinglebury tho, no matter what the monetary savings are... i hope i'm wrong.

Same here, in finding difficult to see a team give up a first round and possibly lottery pick for monetary savings and in hoping Im wrong. If they wanted a guy like Boozer it would make sense, but who would they want to get in order to save all that money?

Two factors may be that Marbury would play for them, since he doesn't have issues with them, and given the economy they would save lots of millions.

i think any realistic trades w/TOR would have to start w/either Nate or Wilson Chandler, or perhaps even Al Harrington, because they could definitely use an upgrade at both the SG & SF spots... i dunno why they'd be looking at Marbury when they already have Jose Calderon... a trade like that tells Bosh the franchise has zero interest in winning this year, not a good thing to tell ur franchise player the year before he becomes a free agent.

Recent reports around the internet have indicated the Raptors may be interested in striking a deal with the Bulls. I investigated the issue and found there is a lot of truth to the rumors. The Raptors seem very interested in Andres Nocioni and may be willing to deal Jermaine O’neal to the Bulls to get him. A trade that has been discussed involved Nocioni and Larry Hughes going to Toronto with O’neal coming to the Chicago. The Raptors, however, are trying to come up with different variations of deals that would bring Nocioni and Drew Gooden to Toronto. Another deal the teams discussed involved Nocioni, Gooden and Tyus Thomas to Toronto for O’neal and a filler, but the Bulls felt they would be giving up too much. Look for the talks between Toronto and Chicago to heat up the closer we get to the trading deadline, a deal very likely could go down.
