it's december 16th. knicks have played 24 games. in the past 6 weeks, the knicks have made two major trades and one major exile. their record is 11-13. considering how they've been playing so far, how do you feel about the team's prospects this season and next year?

I won't say optimistic because that carries an opinion that we're going to the playoffs and I'm not so sure we will.

An entry that was forgotten from the poll was this:

Are you HAPPY watching this team and is it fun to watch THIS team?

The answer is an emphatic YES! I can't remember the last time I was a happy Knick fan - yelling at the TV - for them to DO WELL! As in last night "DAMN!!! Hit one of those shots! We WIN! Come'on KNIKCS you can DO IT you can hit just ONE of those wide open 3s!!!! LETS GO!!!!"

Never felt better as a Knick fan since the 2001 collapse of the roster.

I love watching these guys out there again. Win or Loss can't be happier that Isiah's trash has been both traded(ZachAss/Crawful) and benched(InternBury/McCurry)!

It's awesome!

I liken this team to the 2000(?) Magic who had a bad roster but the players loved playing and liked being around each other and won 40 games - I think that also won Doc Rivers COY? Yeah, I feel like we're that team.

There is nothing to really dislike here and that's a HUGE change! Walsh is a genius!

Will it all play out for the best? Nobody knows. Yet right now this team... TEAM... think about that word if you lament the Crawful/Zachass trades.... TEAM, we're a TEAM and it's fun to watch them play.

They are exciting at times compared to last yr but I'm one who can't use our past as a measuring stick because it was so bad. Will I take this over last yr of course but won't use it as to how good this team is. I can't ignore what our coach's shortcomings are and wonder if it will ultimately be the death of us. I'm looking past the sizzle. Not to mention our draft pick is a problem this can't be ignored and is supposedly a huge factor into a future transition.

D'Antoni has no shortcomings. You might perceive some things as shortcomings because of the traditional ball you're used to, but this isn't correct. He is confident in his system and his philosophy, so more power to him.

I think a big reason our defense is so bad is not anywhere close to Mike D'. It's the fact that our frontcourt is so damn small, with or without Randolph. There's no defensive presence anywhere. We have to rely on Wilson Chandler for a block a game and we have to rely on drumming DLee to the ground. Our guards have no choice but to double and it frequently leaves guys open. Make no mistake though. I see our guys busting their arses like no other. We just happen to have some severe shortcomings that teams take advantage of. We need a big man, preferably a shotblocker. And by shotblocker, I don't mean someone who's going to get 6 fouls in 6 minutes. I mean a defensive stud. Hard to find? Yep. I think we need it more than any other team in the league though.

Cosmic: There is not one person lamenting the Crawford and Zach trade so why have you made it a 2 day mission to try to uncover them?

You know, I read multiple forums and multiple posts so sometimes I am guilty of posting on one forum with that outlook from reading all those posts - and it doesn't fit that particular forum.

So be it. Just trying to make a point that's all. Good or Idiotic. I'm not the most stable person in the world that's for sure....and emotion gets the best of me more often than not. Whatcha gonna do.

Personally, I've always liked him to Mungo from the Heathcliff cartoons....

Minor modifications I'd make now and into the summer -

Guys I really want on this team for the rest of the year are Morris Almond and Courtney Sims. You reach out to Sims now and tell him we're interested and to be ready by January when we can ink guys to 10-day contracts and you figure out a way to get Almond from Utah - maybe offer them our 2010 2nd rounder like Briggs had suggested - that's fair, the Jazz failed to pick up his option so instead of losing him for nothing they might take the 2010 2nd from us. Plus we should have some exception money available - still waiting for the Cuttino ruling but we should be able to add both guys. Different type of ball players but I'd look to catch lightning in a bottle with these two the same way we did when we found Mason and Starks. Then we take our chances with our 1st rounder where we may not get a star but we should get a useful rotation player (we'll be somewhere in the middle of the 1st round). Top it off by trying hard to purchase a late 1st/early 2nd rounder for 2009 - there should be a lot of nice talent available 25-40.

Well, at least you admit it. Now you are one step closer to recovery.

For the long run, I'm optimistic. I feel that Walsh and D'Antoni know what they're doing. For this season, I don't think the players we have are good enough to get us into the playoffs.

I really thought Chandler would put up 20/8 this year and make the All-Star team. He's the only minor disspaointment. This isn't to say that he's not playing well, though. So good stuff.

Optimistic but cautious. Only b/c being full-out optimistic isn't in my nature - I doubt and question everything.

It's only been 6 weeks but I really like what I'm seeing and the direction we're going as a whole though. Definitely couldn't say that about the previous regime.

Same vote, exactly the same reasons.

I voted skeptical... upgrade from previous seasons' expectations, so it's a positive "skeptical." The team is improved, but I think there is a serious lack of talent on this team and it will be a fight to make the playoffs. I could see it happening, I just am not too keen on it happening.
