of course portland would do bayless for lee cuz they are smart. This thread boggles my mind

Why Bayless could be awesome here.

you NEVER trade big for small straight up especially when small is unproven and big is good.

I would consider Lee for Bayless + Sergio. Needs to be more than just Lee for Bayless.

Bayless has barely cracked the rotation in Portland. Lee is putting up huge numbers and is a high charictor guy that everyone would want on their team. Pretty much exaclty what Martin said. If your trading Lee I think you need to get back a real talent that you can bank on not just a straight gamble. Plus we already have Nate who does what Bayless could do (for the most part) and we have NOBODY that could fill in for David Lee

so we'd have both snickerdoodle and fugazy back on the court for us? i don't think my heart is strong enough to take that.

All we'd need is for them to make Jerome an active participant and you might be headed for the ER!

Frye sucks and can't play a lick of D nor does he rebound well. Webster is an unrestricted free agent after this year.

The trade you just proposed is Lee for Sergio.

If we get the number 1 pick back, this is not a bad trade. I think Tyrus Thomas gives us the front court energy, shot blocking we are missing. I think he can excell in this system just as so many already has (Diaw, Bell, Lee, Duhon, etc) All of those guys were okay role players until they played in MDA's system. Again, I only make the pick if get a number 1 back though.

The Blazers signed Webster to a 4yr/20mill extension Oct 31.

Agree with you about Frye but we need to include him to make the deal work.

I think Sergio is much more of a distributor than Bayless is - I've wanted Sergio for a while now. I've seen Sergio play a bunch of times now and I really think he'd be a great PG to run Mike's system, he's a low TO and high Assist type guy. He's not the greatest shooter right now, but he has good form on his J and I think he can improve.

I was never that impressed with Bayless at Arizona and I'm still not, he's more like a small SG. I also think if MikeD thought Bayless was a great fit for his system he probably would have really pressured Donnie to draft him.

Just like the Knicks would never trade Lee to Golden State in the deal you proposed.

If MikeD wanted Bayless enough, he would have asked Donnie to draft him.

You make good points NYK but, is there really a need for Sergio with Duhon playing the way he is playing? Duhon is doing eveything that you hope to ge from Sergio, unless you anticipate Duhon bolting after 2010. With Duhon running the point, I'd much rather get a player like Bayless (if I had to choose between the 2) who wouldn't be redundant to Duhon. Bayless would give us a different look when Duhon goes to the bench. I know Bayless is more of a scoring lead-guard, but I think he can flourish in MDA's open offense. Bayless can be a Ben Gordon type player in this system.

Why would the Knicks trade for a back up scrub for David Lee? There are scrubs all over the NBA Bayless is a stud waiting to happen--he is in the wrong place at the wrong time--we need a scoring guard in an asset trade--use the exemption for a back up.

You would rather have Sergio Rodriguez than Branden Wright? I bet the Knicks would take Wright

If the trade I proposed was just Sergio then I would agree with you, but it's not. Read my post.

I'm all for getting as many assets as possible. In this league you need more than 1PG and I think Duhon/Sergio would share the role quite well. At this point we should be looking for players that we can get, have them play well in this system and then flip them for something else.

Webster has a broken foot and a new long term contract that far exceeds 2010 and Frye is something you take back for spot duty.

Webster's foot will get better and his contract is modest. 4yr/20mill that is by no means a salary cap killer and he would make a nice addition to the SG spot for us. Frye I agree with you on, but he's being brought back to make the deal work.

The Knicks are not adding salary past 2010 unless it cut Curry's contract in half. I also seriously doubt the Knicks would even consider damaged goods after the draft and Mobley

i think the Knicks look to move DLee at the draft in 2009 for a top 10 pick. i think it happens on draft night (Dlee to the Bobcats on draft night? the bobcats love making horrible trades and larry brown loves getting his old players back).

it makes sense to get as much as you can out of this season and then move Dlee at the draft. to me, there's a lot of value in having the team performing as well as possible this season - it builds back confidence, pride and a faith in what d'antoni and walsh are doing here not only with the jaded fan base but with the rest of the league, especially certain free agents.
