I hope the Knicks get an exemption, but it looks like a longshot right now.

I think they get half his salary b/c of the medical retirement.

League has to approve it and they do about 1/3rd of the time (for whatever reason).

Yet, I think Stern is onto the Knicks improving so I bet we get it just because of that.

Cuttino Mobley woulda totally fit in this offense and he woulda had a throwback year. Its unfortunate for us fans and our team but the dudes life is more important.

Well this stinks...

Too bad. Wish Mobley the best but,

from what I have read, it is UNLIKELY THE KNICKS WILL GET AN EXEMPTION TO ADD ANOTHER PLAYER...

since they traded for him, knew he was damaged goods, and then accepted the deal anyway.
Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

I believe initially Donnie intended for Mobley to play. After the physical it took a few days for Donnie to sign off.......

Side note. Anybody remember douche bag Dunlevy Sr. Trashing Donnie of the hold up. Muthafuk Dunlevy Sr. for eternity no chance of parole!!!!

Anyway, after tests and it became clear what was happening the Knicks left it up to Mobley and the man chose to retire.....that's what it is unless Mobley comes out and says otherwise.

He's definitely an SOB!

AP Source: Mobley to announce retirement Thursday

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley will retire from the NBA, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday night.

The Knicks have called a press conference for Thursday afternoon at their training center, where Mobley will announce his decision. The person confirmed Mobley’s decision to the AP on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the player’s behalf.

New York acquired the veteran guard from the Los Angeles Clippers last month, but he never played for the Knicks after a physical exam revealed a problem with his heart.

They should have checked Marbury's heart when he was traded here.

They would not have been find it.

That's too bad for Mobley. I wish him well and a long healthy life outside of the NBA.

I don't think they knew at the time of the trade that he was damaged goods. He failed the physical, and then further testing revealed that the condition became worse from what was previously known.

We certainly could have gone with what the clippers had and had him sign the waiver. Instead, the Knicks went further.

I don't see how the league denys the position and relief? Regardless of what is written in the CBA- the last thing the league wants to be doing is encourage teams to march players out there that could drop dead sudddenly.

Mobley would've been great in this system. Really sucks. Hope his health improves. Good luck, Cat.

Good move by Cuttino. You made your money and had a nice run in the NBA. Why put your heath on the line. Smart move. Enjoy your family and life in the end that is what it is all about.

Anyone who is trashing the Knicks for this is an idiot. The bottom line is that if Mobley wasn't concerned about his health condition, he'd be playing... somewhere, not retiring. The fact that he's concerned enough to retire means that there's something serious going on and he made a wise decision. There's no conspiracy. I don't know why he was playing earlier, but the physical showed that the condition was more severe than originally thought. We just don't know that information, but we do know that he's retiring of his own free will, which should be enough for anyone.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

What's scary is if the trade never happened, or Mobley wasn't involved, the man could have gone on playing, not realizing the problem had escalated.

Cuttino, you had a good run. I'm sorry we never got to see you in a Knicks uniform, but enjoy your life. There's more important things than basketball.

If anything the Knicks just might have saved his life.

Are they airing this on MSG?

Cuttino Mobley, we hardly knew ye... I hope that he has many years of basketball ahead of him...with his kids. We could have used his presence in our lineup. I hope the Knicks can fill that gap...
You know I gonna spin wit it

its a shame. i met him before in my store and he is a nice guy. very down to earth with a sense of humor. it is a shame because he isn't THAT old ( same age as me?). since he was a spot up shooter he had a good thre to four years in him.

I didn't read the rest of this thread so pardon me if it's been mentioned before: but the name Reggie Lewis instantly popped into my head just now. We might've saved Cat's life trading for him.
