Afterward, D’Antoni said Thomas “arguably, is our most talented player.”

Just let Tim Thomas be Tim Thomas. He is a very good player and a great option off the bench. Can we leave it at that? So much hate for players/GM/Coaches here

Tim Thomas is just a different kinda cat.

You ever notice how he loves to smile? His approach is that of a big kid who simply enjoys playing. It's not that he does not take his job seriously. He is not mad at anyone.

Was that Tim Thomas talking about defense?

Here is the fun part. he is back close to home, which is a good thing as far as comfort level. The Knicks are using a tight rotation that allows him consistent minutes, another good thing. D'Antoni is smart enough to not force Tim into a traditional "position". In one situation he may play guard, in another he may look more like a center.

“Back-to-backs will always get you,” Thomas said. “Especially playing with seven guys, but a lot of time, it’s mind over matter.”

If Mike D'Antoni can cajole (not harass, demean or put-down) Tim Thomas into anything resembling consistent performance, there can be no doubt he is the best NBA head coach in the universe.

Marv - I was thinking the same thing about having the mike on Tim. It was a nice touch.

But on the real, I would guarantee that when he's not miked up, Tim Thomas is either talking about a hottie seated in the third row or asking dudes what toppings they like on their pizza.

He's just a different kinda cat.

I ain't mad at him.

tim thomas has a graet attitude now that hes a vet, listen to the post game interview from last night

he sounds like hes truly being a team player.. they brought up how Mike D said he needs to "highlight him more" and TT could have easily said something like "that would be nice!" but he totally deflected it and said hes more focused on winning and playing team ball

Elite - some very talented people go through life without fully embracing their gifts. Those who are not talented cannot understand why one would 'squander' such gifts, but it's more complicated than it appears. Second Opinions always swirl around talented people - people may talk about potential or stardom - and it does not register. They are much more in tune with how they perceive their quality of life.

If that person happens to be a young, gifted athlete, he could care less about the score, or his stats, than the joy it brings someone else. Some sportswriters opinion of his so-called ceiling has absolutely nothing to do with WHY he plays (emphasis on the word PLAY) It's irrelevant whether anyone thinks Tim Thomas could be an all star. He may only respond to the brief flashbulb of joy that a single bright moment brings.

At this point in his career he may (may) understand his time is now. He is simply...

The one guy who has some sanity here is TMS. The guy does NOT play with heart. He coasts A LOT, and I mean most of the time. And I've seen him run hard. He's a very fast runner, but he's usually jogging and he usually expects his teammates to pick up the slack for when he's coasting. He loses focus a lot too. He just doesn't have the mentality.

Now, I can understand if he was just soft and had Keith Van Horn like symptoms yet he busted his but all the time. Meaning, he tried hard on the D' but just happened to get beat and he wasn't good at taking clutch shots. That I can understand.

I can understand if he's even a bit of an underachiever and couldn't live up to the high expectations, but still busted his but all the time. Kind of like a Joe Smith type of guy. That I can understand too.

However, this guy has all the tools in the world, and while maybe he loves the Knicks, he sure doesn't seem to love the game of basketball.

But at least he keeps himself in shape and can shoot the rock, so like what others said: He has some uses. It should have never come to this point though.

I saw the post-game interview last night. I was very impressed. He did not puff his chest out and claimed he was the best player ever if given opportunities. He just said he will let things come to him and is happy winning games than anything else. He was also mic'd up last night and his talk was very helpful to the team. When he wasn't talking about defensive assignments he was pumping up guys to be more aggressive. I was surprinsingly happy with his remarks.

Basketball is not always the most important thing in a pro athletes existence. Another prime example is Eddy Curry, who appears that he was forced to play only because of his size. Kids looked up to him and coaches drooled.

Eddy would prefer to be sitting on the coast of Spain sketching seascapes or dancing with a ballet company. And there is nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, the NBA money is great - what da hell. But there is no sincere passion.

Robert Redford? Nah.

Misterearl, I think that was my point, b/c your post was flat out outrageous.

The Knicks are paying Eddie Curry A LOT of money and they gave up A LOT to get him. He never keeps himself in shape to play in even pickup games, let alone NBA games. Curry's one job is to keep himself in shape and play basketball for 30 minutes a night, 82 times a year, maybe a few extra games [sarcasm]Oh God forbid the Knicks make the playoffs[/sarcasm]

Then Tim Thomas. He has this wonderful gift. He has a skillset and he's got these athletic capabilities that just about everyone dreams of having. To top it off, he's 6'10" and he's jacked. Now if he doesn't love basketball, FINE! Don't be an NBA player. However, if YOU are going to make that commitment, then you have to make it. If you're gonna make millions and millions, then it's your duty to justify that by at least working your hardest, as an American.

Misterearl, no offense, but that post you made is flat out outrageous. Actually, I shouldn't even say no offense, b/c your post was even a little offensive. People are struggling just to find jobs at minimum wage. Yet those two guys are making enormous salaries, and not making anywhere close to the most of it. In my mind, those two guys are flat out disgusting. Don't even get me started with Marbury.

At least TT is pretending that he cares though, on occasion.

Outrageous

Allanfan - Do you really think the fact Allan Houston can make a jumpshot is worth $100 million? As an "American", in a capitalist system, Houston, Thomas, KRod, ARod, Curry, CC Sabathia, and Marbury have only responsibility - and that is to accept whatever an employer is willing to pay them. Period. Gnashing of teeth over their "committment" or "duty" is a waste of time and something Mike D'Antoni gets paid good money to determine and reward with minutes.

Athletic "capabilities" are for scientsist, reporters and pundits to debate. I have empathy for people who work to get by on minimum wage but that is not the issue here. The related issue that you uncover is the fierce resentment that reporters and observers people feel towards millionaires who, in their opinion, do not deserve the money they are paid by someone else.

I don't sweat Eddy Curry, Stephon Marbury, or Tim Thomas about his chedda. Cablevison has more money than God and it's their logo on the check. You could spend the rest of your life hating every pro athlete that you thought earned too much money. They ALL earn too much money.

To the extent Tim Thomas can smile while he plays basketball near his home state and help my favorite basketball team get a win - I'm happy for him.
