hmm, Redick for a trade exception deal, i'd be all for that.

I personally think Douby's better than Reddick, cause he's got more handle, but I'd certainly take a chance on a guy with Redick's shooting ability for that kind of risk.

If Roberson is here strictly for his shooting it shouldn't be too hard to find someone who can exceed that, who can also play a little bit of point just to give Duhon a breather.

Yeah- Wafer at least looks like he can shoot which makes it puzzling that a guy like Roberson stuck out more than he did to get that contract. I mean Robo must've really been tearing it up all summer.

Bellinelli is a good one, though I'm not sure they will unload him at that price just yet. If so, we should've been able to get him in the Crawford deal.

i'm not crazy about him but Smush Parker's another option... he's got some size for a PG at least & can finish at the rim.

Crittenton may work...according to Mark Stein's column they desperate to save money:

Yet don't forget that the Grizzlies are trying to save money wherever they can. That fact has to help Iavaroni and also lends credence to the belief that the Griz will only agree to move the expiring contract of Antoine Walker -- whom Memphis refuses to play -- if they can shed the salary of, say, Marko Jaric or Greg Buckner along with Walker. The money factor is such that general manager Chris Wallace, sources say, faces a fight to keep minimum-salaried defensive specialist Quinton Ross on the roster at less than $800,000 … ... after Wallace battled just to get Ross on the team

i would be ecstatic to get Crittenton in a trade... i think he's got a lot of potential & he's got great size for a PG... would love to see him backing up Duhon & free up Nate to play the SG where he's more comfortable in the second unit... he could D up on the SG so Nate can check the other team's PG's.

1 thing is absolutely obvious & that's the fact that we don't have any capable backup at PG w/o Nate fully healthy... Roberson didn't even get any burn today on a day when Duhon went all 48 minutes & the Knicks had a 30 pt lead in the 1st half... that should tell u all u need to know... whoever we target, it needs to be somebody w/some size at the G position who can orchestrate for some stretches of the game when Duhon's getting some rest... we can't bring in another undersized G to add to the collection.

Exactly. Nellie's jerked this kid around so far IMO, but they did pick up his option recently. With Ellis due back eventually, Jackson/Maggette not going anywhere and now the trade for Crawford, they'll be looking to move this kid to fill a weakness by the deadline. I was actually hearing Toronto as a destination not too long ago...

Well maybe we can use the exception on Belli and perhaps add our second rounder. We are "friends" with GS right?
GS can then use it (along with another player perhaps, if need be) to get another player. I think it just adds flexibility but of course first you target who you want...

Knicks will need to add a guard and could have their pick of a few young players armed with the titular assets (yes I started this thread to say that). Lets make a list of them-

-Quincy Douby
-Morris Almond
-Marcus Williams
-Sergio Rodriguez?
-Sonny Weems
-Maurice Ager
-Sean Williams
-JJ Redick
-Von Wafer
-Javaris Crittenton?
-Marco Bellinelli?

I think we need a 2-guard the most because Nate is fine as a back-up point.

I'd love to see Morris Almond and think a trade exemption would probably get him for us. He might start right away and he'd probably go off in this system.

After Almond the 2-guards I'd be interested in would be G. Green (not likely), M. Bellinelli (hasn't shown squat) and JJ Redick.

At the point -- I'd love Sergio, would be happy with M. Williams and maybe a Crittenton (I heard that Memphis is really managing the $ very tightly).

2- guards

G. Green 0.8M
Q. Ross 0.8M
D. Cook 1.2M
M. Ager 1.0M
CDR 0.4M
K. Rush 0.8M
A. Tucker 1.0M

Pt Guards

W. Dixon 0.8M
M. Williams 1.3M
CJ Watson 0.7M
L. Head 2.0M
T. Diener 1.6M
M. Taylor 0.5M
K. Lowry 1.2M
C. Lee 1.2M
R. Ivey 0.9M

Almond, Crittenton, Rodriguez and M. Williams in that order. Actually = maybe Crittenton would be 1st choice - he's got a great NBA body.

Why are there any 2 guards on this list? We need a backup PG.

Q, Chandler can fill the SG position.

Trade Exemption Info from Hahn:

With the potential of roster spots opening up this week if the situations involving Stephon Marbury (buyout) and Cuttino Mobley (health issue) are both settled, let's take a closer look at how the cap-strapped Knicks can make some additions to the team without taking on major salary beyond the 2010 threshold.

* - The Knicks received a $1,369,920 trade exception in the Renaldo Balkman trade with Denver, which brought back a second-round pick. They can get an extra $100,000 if they use it, which means they could use up to $1,469,920 to acquire a player with the exception. You can not combine the exception with a player to acquire a larger contract (say, take Malik Rose's expiring contract and add the exception to acquire a player making $9 million). The exception could land you Sergio Rodriguez ($1,048,800) if the Blazers are interested. Donnie Walsh suggested the Knicks have a second trade exception (also minimal) which I'm trying to figure out.

* - I'll mention this again as I did in the previous blog: the Knicks could consider offering Malik Rose's expiring contract ($7.6 million) for Jerry Stackhouse ($7 million), who is recovering from a sore heel but has been given the green light by Dallas to seek a trade to a better situation where he could find more playing time. The Knicks get an athletic, scoring two, who has a contract that -- all together now -- expires in 2010 and the Mavs get salary relief a year early with Rose, who can also help their frontcourt depth.

* - The Knicks also have their bi-annual exception available for $1.9 million, which Donnie Walsh can use either this season or next, but won't be able to after the team is under the cap in 2010. There aren't any available veterans worth the bi-annual yet, though it will be worth monitoring the waiver wire to see if a player might become available after a buyout.

If Mobley retires and we get a medical exemption from the league that would be half his annual salary - which is about 4M if I recall.

So we have plenty of flexibility here once Mobley and Marbury are settled elsewhere.

Another thought today......

If Mobley retires and we get that medical exemption why not call up Denver and offer it for Atkins? He's on the block. They're in cost cutting mode.

Chucky Atkins $3,240,000 $3,480,000

He's gone in 2010 according to one site... and 2009 according to hoopshype which is usually wrong. The 2010 year is some sort of option on the first site but they didnt list what it was.

If we take on Stackhouse's extra year it will cost the Knicks nearly 15mm next year--not a good choice unless two number 1 picks came with it
