I totally agree with not losing him but even Steve Nash said Lee can fit in any offense because he doenst need to ball. I think you may be able to get a 20-30 pick for him in the draft because a good team could use him or take the chance of signing him. Higher draft picks will not happen because they wont know if they can sign him.

i think we could probably get at least a mid 1st round pick for D Lee... maybe not lottery but definitely in the #15 range... a team on the cusp of making the playoffs who need some rebounding help & are hovering around .500 would definitely be interested in D Lee.

And the question is what would walsh do we that. With the exception of Granger Walsh has been a terrible draft expert. I really cant see him doing well with a mid first round pick.

i dunno what he would do w/it but u still gotta make the move if u'r the Knicks... otherwise u have to make sure u can dump Curry now & trade Nate for a late pick if u can... u can't sacrifice the 2010 plan over David Lee, Nate, Duhon or anyone else on this roster.

He defense since Zach has gone has got a lot better. We are starting to hold team under 100 points a game and he stopped Biedrins cold. Does he have a lot of work to do absolutely. It strikes me funny today I think he tied the Knicks record for most consecutive double-double and he is top ten in rebounding but most fans think Jeffries or any guy in the draft can do what he is doing. DO you sign Lee for 10 or lose him for nothing. Funny thing is you could have got him for 8 or so by signing him early.

i don't necessarily think a college player we draft could do what he's doing but i also think D Lee will not be worth the money he'll command in free agency... i also think we can get more defensive play & shotblocking along w/the rebounds & shallow water play that D Lee provides (maybe not as good to start on offense) from a rookie prospect for a lot cheaper, which will open up free agency options for us to pursue better talent than D Lee in 2010.

BINGO!

New York has a way to overhype prospects and predict the future and usually they are never right. I am sure the Knicks have been saying for years that a big time free agent is coming. It is those same people that said Dangelo Jimenez, Ruben Rivera, Hensley Meulens, Phil Hughes, Brien Taylor were going to be great baseball players also.

we haven't been in any position to sign one for a long time... i'm sure the same people who thought Jeter, Bernie, Mariano, Jorge, Cano, Wang, Joba & Pettitte were the goods were also thinking not having cap space pretty much meant we had no chance to lure any FA's here to begin with.

No on has said that an FA has been coming for years. We've been under the cap ONCE in like the past 15=20 years and when we were, big players did come.

DId those players bring you a championship? Did you have any players better than Wilson Chandler and Gallinari to have these guys play with?

They took us to the NBA championship...we didn't win but only 1/31 teams do.

Yes but you had a max player already in place when they came. WIth having to purge the entire team you dont have a lot to offer except Peter Lugar and Scores. Every other team is clearing space also to try and lure these free agents and alot of the teams have more to offer.

I think people are missing the point-give him the money now and next year tie him up with an option for the key year with a a buyout payment if we fail to resign for the following year. Its complicated but fits under the rules. After or if we sign one or more of the "prizes" we can then give him anything.

The Knicks need to keep developing their guys, but by 2010 the Nate, Lee, Chandler, Gallo and whatever first round pick we have will likely be a lot more attractive to play with- plus D'Antoni is a coach you know players would like to play under b/c their game will flourish and he will have the team competetive even under the toughest circumstances (i.e. now).

again, why if you're D Lee would u agree to a team option in 2 years when u can easily land a 4-5 year guaranteed deal anywhere else? doesn't make sense for him to give the Knicks such a concession w/his future on the line like that.

And if the Knicks can get one LeBron or Wade or whomever in 2010 and still have space for a good guy in 2011 its just as effective. And for the last time its not as shortsighted as just 2010- if they don't get their guys then they will have space for 2011 and at least they will be competetive for the next decade by putting themsevles in a position to rebuild their roster.

And for people who keep asking these questions, can I ask, what in the hell was your alternative? You think the Knicks were going anywhere by making sign and trades for flawed talents and signing overrated players to full MLE's.

At least they did something. Asking these questions is asinine. If you want David Lee to leave NYC- tell him since you know the guy. Don't try to convince us that we should just be pessimistic. This is your 4th or 5th thread in as many days saying the same crap.

Lee has no choice he loves NYC and has done the right things and if there is going to be any benefits to be reaped down the road he would have liked to be on that team.

I believe the buyout payment can make up the difference without counting under the cap and combine it with a disability policy

a contract does not come off the books if u buy it out.
