imho, the target should be lebron or wade in 2010. and then dwight in 2011.

amare or bosh will not turn out to be what knicks fans are hoping for...

I doubt Dwight is going anywhere. Let's say the 2010 eggs are all in that basket....2010.

Lebron-Wade
or
Lebron-Bosh

Is either really a bad duo to run with for six years? I would think it would not be that hard to build a team around them especially given that amount of time!

knicks would need $30+ mil in cap room and basically have a totally stripped down roster...which means no curry + jeffries + lee or nate...

if we get rid of jeffries + curry we can still have Lee + Nate and get 2 max players

I dont see two of the big time free agents going to the same place. I hope the Knikcs can get one then you make trades for some vets that want to win.

It was Orlando's plan....orchestrated by John Gabriel. It backfired as Hill was injured...and Duncan said no the first time around so TMac and his whining came on board.

Yet, the fact is, that's probably what Gabriel is working on behind the scenes and Walsh is into it.

I guess the idea is get two young superstars that you're willing to go six full years with and then build around them. Gives you an awfully BIG window of opportunity!

While maybe two superstars aren't available, heck, we don't even know if one will come in 2010, I firmly believe THIS is the IDEA behind the scenes.

In that, a guy like Amare, who is a risk...probably shouldn't be in the plans. (SEE: Grant Hill...sorta)

I think this is the danger with our 2010 or bust talk. If we lose out on Lebron & 2nd star, I'm not so sure I want to settle for 2nd star & sloppy thirds. At that point, just hold off and wait for Dwight Howard/Chris Paul or a # 1 draft pick.

I agree we have no Plan B but Lebron has been to the finals and he isnt griping like a child like Amare is doing.

You could say Amare was in a much tougher conference and had to go thru teams that eventually won the title.
amare is good, but i dont think he can be the "guy". His game is tailored to MDA's offense.

Does an early workup not give us 46M in cap space?
Are the grumblings surrounding a Lee trade not louder than him being re-signed to a deal way more than he's worth?
Nate...can be figured in...or he can be sent packing.

Nothing is set in stone that is for sure one way or another but I think it's apparent that the plan IS indeed to have the cap space to lure 2 "max" free agents in 2010.

John Gabriel, who was brought on as somewhat of a capologist, was the last guy to "gut" a team in order to make room for "2 max FAs" (Orlando Magic).

I think you put it together and if it's there to be had that is the plan.

2011 max free agents only come into play come the summer of 2010 when we see what happens with the 2010 FA crop and not a second sooner. 2011 is likely to be the year we add our "James Posey types".

Post counts? POST COUNTS!!!! Let me tell you yoots something about POST counts. I have around 140,000 posts on another Knick forum. It doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about - in fact - it probably means I don't know what I'm talking about in that I've posted so much in debates in an attempt to ram my opinion as fact down the throats of multiple people who disagree with me at all times!

Never won anything? LOL! If thats the case, what the hell has Chris Bosh won? What has Lebron won? Joe Johnson what has he won? Yoa Ming is a loser too.

I would take Amare in a heartbeat. He's one of the most talented PF's in the game. He was a key player and arguably the most important players on a team that won 50 plus games in a row for four years, 4 division titles and two trips to the conference finals. That resume blows Bosh's resume out of the water. Not saying he's better than Bosh, but using your criteria, if you dont want Stoudemire because he hasn't won, then I guess our only target is Tim Duncan.

seconded... Amare is a better player than anyone we've had since Ewing... u'd be crazy not to want a guy like that... i don't view him as much of a huge distraction to the team like other primadonna players i would rather avoid... he put up some huge numbers playing in MDA's system a couple years back & is a shotblocking presence in the paint, something we desperately need... obviously Lebron is the prize of free agency but if u can't land the biggest fish, there are other fish out there for the taking... u don't throw your hands up & say "Oh well, we tried" & leave it at that if Lebron doesn't choose to come here.

Here is how we will have room for 2 guys, keep all out kids, keep Duhon, and only have to dump Curry and maybe our 2009 pick with him:

After this year, sign Lee and Nate to extensions that begin in 2010.

Give Lee 6 years and 51 mil @ 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 (avg 8.5 mil. per year)
Give Nate 6 years and 39 mil @ 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (avg 6.5 mil per year)

Curry 11
Jeffries 7
---------- 18 mil

Danilo (option) 3.3
Chandler (option) 2.1
---------- 5.4 mil

23.4 mil +

Lee 6
Nate 4
---------- 10 mil

33.4 mil +

Resign Duhon and start him at 6.6 mil

40 mil +

If the cap is 62 mil you are about 10mil shy of having the money for 2 Max FAs

Thats where Eddy Curry comes into play. If we trade him for no salary in 2010, we have the money to sign two Max guys.

FA1
FA2
Duhon
Lee
Nate
Chandler
Gallo
Jeffries

D'antoni runs a short rotation anyway. The rest of the roster are minimum players.
I didn't include the 2009 pick in the above calculations but thats because I think we trade it, either for multiple picks later in the draft or as a last resort, greasing the skids to get Eddy off our cap.

The point is, Walsh is more than halfway to being able to keep all our young guys and sign 2 max guys. Just gotta lose Eddy.
What is not to like about keeping all the young kids and adding two Max guys? And Duhon too. Only Curry needs to go and we won't resign Al unless he wants to take the minimum and be our James Posey.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

What did Lebron ever win besides an Allstar MVP? I rather build through the draft but no one will agree with me until every free agent in 2010 refuses to sign with the Knicks

Yeah? So I take it you want to cry about the Knicks for the next 5-7 years because that's how long it will take to build through the draft. You probably enjoy complaining then.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

The two are unrelated--build through the draft and make good FA signings.

Not trading picks to get rid of players. Walsh doesn't like that and he is dha man for it.
