On Steph

Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni spent more than an hour between them Friday laying out what they expect when training camp starts next Tuesday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. _ and there's plenty to chronicle.

Before going over it word for word, though, here are the highlights:

- Stephon Marbury, according to Walsh, has a clean slate heading into camp, as does the other 17 players on the roster.

"I think everyone gets a clean slate because I don't know what went on [before]," Walsh said _ in essence, dismissing some of what he's heard and knows from his time in Indiana about Marbury and the other players he's inherited. "I try to to let it affect [his decision-making]."

D'Antoni (who had a brief history with Steph in Phoenix) wasn't quite as direct, saying he can't ignore the past, but also indicating that like everyone else on his team, "Nothing all season is a given. ... We need talented basketball players and he's a talented basketball player."

Translation: Steph will have to fight for his job and minutes like everyone else.

I still don't understand why he's negotiating with the media. Does Berman make these decisions? He just had a meeting with his GM, but instead of being a man and having a sit down discussion, he storms out and calls Berman. I don't get it.

You don't get it? It's Marbury. That's what he does. He's a 4 year old. He's only going to talk to someone who kisses his arse. Anyone not on his side is mistreating him and he avoids/talks about them in the media

Marbury really should employ a PR agent who serves as his mouthpiece when he needs to say something. Generally he should keep quiet. When he goes from the top of his head, fueled by his emotions, you never know what he might say just by himself. And it seems like he is a slow learner, like he can be led into making wild comments quite easily by the same old NYC media tricks.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

At this point why would Dantoni play Marbs? Who would think for a second that Marbs would be a good soldier on the court after these past few days. So marbs should just take that out of his vocab and ask to be cut, and just fight for that.

I just don't understand why he and coach can't have a sit down. Coach tells him, you don't have to trust me, you just need to keep your mouth shut and play basketball. Marbs play BB, other GM's realize they aren't going to get him for nothing and get serious about making a legit offer by the deadline. That would make me happy so Marbury should do that

Seriously, I don't see too many players that can sympathize with him, he is making max dollars and acts like an arrogant a hole. There is no sense of pride with him,no sense of team, no love for the game like you get with other guys. Time for people to call a spade a spade. The guy has been an issue everywhere he's been, those other players can "sympathize" but I bet they all don't want him on their team. See its all good when your dealing with guaranteed contracts and the BS of players thinking they are bigger than the sport. Please, for one I wish more owners would man up and send these guys home like Dolan and walsh are doing. This whole thing is he wants to leave, we are going to have to give him a big chunk of his money, so why buy him out. I agree with the team, send him home, let him collect his check and then explore some options come February. it would have to be a desperate team to take on Marbury.

I'm sure that at least Walsh has tried to rationalize with marbs regarding his situation. I am also sure that Marbs has ignored all the rationalization because he is just not a rational human being

It's like a bad marriage and an ugly divorce. After all this, please let us get something for him by the deadline.

I wonder if Marb's league appointed mouth piece is happy about flying in only to have to sit there and make small talk with Walsh while Marb's strolls in 20 minutes late wearing a T shirt to negotiate his multi-million dollar buyout, only to storm out and leave him sitting there with nowhere to go. Class act all the way.

League appointed mouthpiece after Marbs storms out: Say Donnie, nice time piece. Where'd you get that one?

Walsh: it was a gift for 20 years of service with Indianna
