The Candidate

The Mayor deserves way more ink than Stephon Marbury, but a young man who improves with every breath of playing time does not sell newspapers or generate new threads on a daily basis.

There's something else that generate plenty of newspaper also. It called the road to championship.

the only NY athletes i've ever actually met in person & talked to were Osi Umenyiora, Lavarr Arrington & Chuck Knoblauch... i saw Ewing & the Oakman playing baccarat w/MJ at the Borgata once but damn security wouldn't let anyone get too close... also saw Charles Barkley walking to his car outside a club down in DC & Wayne Chrebet at the mall w/some hot blonde chick.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I met and seen so many NY players I don't know where to begin. Craig Nettles got pissed at me for asking Ron Guidry for an autograph, back around 1980. That guy was an *******. #49 was pretty cool though. I did finally meet Ron another time and he was happy to sign.

awesome picture, I ran into Charles Oakley at cipriani a few years ago, and he was eating, I didn't want to bother him...but as I got drunker and we were leaving, I walked right by and said "I'm sorry to interrupt, but respect, you're the man" he put down his fork to shake my hand and say thanks. I'm never star struck, but this was a rare case where I was happy I said something.

Thats great! I wonder if he knows we nicknamed him The Mayor. Courtesy of Misterearl.

I remember I met Ryan Grant last yr at Sandbar when I was helping my friend film Spring Fling. He was surprised that I knew who he was.

He is really the only athlete I have met face to face. I have met a couple of music artist though.

As Good As It Gets

newyorknewyork - if The Mayor was informed there was a dedicated group of fans so optimistically carefree to think of him as The Mayor, he would immediately smile from ear to ear and then proceed to drop 45 points on his next opponent.

He's barely appeared in a half season of NBA games.

I went to the Roy Jones Jr v Joe Calzaghe fight at MSG. Got great seats. On the way out i saw Wilson and asked him for a photo. I hate asking people I don;t know for photos, so I usually don't... Brendan Haywood, for example, was sitting in my section. But THISISTHEMAYOR!!! Two things: (1) he's a really nice laid back kid, didn't give me any attitude whatsoever for asking even though a he was with a couple of other Knicks and trying to get on the elevator to get out of dodge, and (2) my hand was up on his trap--pause--and he's built like a rock.

I thought I'd share because y'all are probably the only people that care I met The Mayor. Sorry its blurry but my buddy and I were smashed by that point

Cool. Nice work SC. Was he there with Pat Jr.?

I meet Charles Smith this summer. Oh well never mind.

Oh and I thought Roy did not come to fight.

That's awesome Supreme! I'm glad Wilson is a chill dude, he definitely seems that way when you watch him play, he kinda just goes with the flow.

BigC, where did you meet Charles Smith? He lives in my area - my mother actually works with his wife.

I saw him when I was with my daughters. He was with a group of kids and his mother in the city. I asked him about his foundation for children and he was giving me the rundown. All these years later and he is still reaching out to children and providing after school programs and giving out free computers. Cool guy.

Yeah that's awesome. He's a real nice guy, I know that for sure. It's too bad Knick fans have such a sour memories of him, but he really is a good dude.
