there has to be some guys in the NBDL who can shoot the lights out that we can bring in on a 10 day contract that are better than Roberson... we need to free up that roster spot somehow.

This is an acceptable route!

Why offer a 2nd round draft pick when you have Lindsey Hunter, Nichols, Fred Jones, Smush Parker, Salim Stoudamire, Jason Williams, Kirk Snyder, Ronald Dupree out there for the taking.

Another reason not to have made overtures to a certain one the past couple of weeks.

You offer a second round pick because you feel the player can fit in well here. You are talking about players who have gone through the crap heap. They did not opt in on Almond--a second round pick is fair compensation. It's fair to the player to give him an opportunity and the Knicks need a 2G with size.

I prefer to keep my assets and offer prorated vet min contracts to players who can fill the need adequately. Nichols is just as capable as Almond no need to throw away an asset if you don't have to.

Heck the Warriors are playing an undrafted rookie in Morrow. You don't have to always make trades to fill voids. Do homework and scout players, or pick up those who are waiting to be given another opportunity on the cheap.

Morrow is the perfect example... i'm sure there's gotta be guys like that playing in the D Leagues, why are we stuck w/Roberson, an undersized SG who can't even hit a consistent J in game action?
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I agree there are a number of shooters out there who could fit the bill. Almond does have a really nice stroke though, and has been effective lately.

On the flip side, the Knicks would probably benefit from signing a guy like Michael Doleac who can give them some more size and can play pick and roll and really shoot the basketball. When he was a here he was a pretty solid rebounder and I thought he player very good one on one post defense.

I think Almond has a lot of talent and is perfect for this system. He doesnt fit well in Utah. Giving up a 2 for a player who was taken 1 two years ago is good value. If you are looking for a good D leaguer--Almond was the best player down there last year. He needs a chance and we need a 2G

Would've been nice to work out a Balkman/Almond kind of swap- but its the same idea on our end here.

Yeah, I was thinking of that too as I wrote it. Only thing though - Balkman is more or less a known quantity. Might never be an all-star, but he's aggressive, can rebound, is a tireless worker, can handle it a little and start some breaks and can play some defense. Denver obviously liked him enough to trade for him - they knew what they were getting. Our second rounder, on the other hand, who knows what it could yield. Balkman may of had more value in a situation like this than a straight up second rounder...

Balkman has played pretty well for Denver this year when he's gotten significant minutes.

Briggs, if Utah was willing to do this trade I'd do it a second. Almond would fit great here.

That's probably why this hasn't happened, Utah isn't interested in trading Almond, even if he isn't getting much playing time, most teams like having what's called depth on their roster in case of injuries, also if you all haven't forgotten it's a long season, teams like to have depth. So, not every player on every team is available to the Knicks at the drop of a hat, it doesn't work like that, we can't say to a team, "hey if your not gonna play that guy, can we have him?, we'll give you a pick!".
