I haven't been following his injury closely. Is there an ETA for Gallinari? Is he expected to play at all this year?

I think he has to rest for like 3 months. After that they would re-evaluate him and hopefully clear him up to play. But if he has to take a little more to fully heal, so be it.

Wasn't it 6-8 weeks? Those stories were coming out about a week or two ago. So if those docs are right -- we're looking at 4-7 weeks from now. Considering that the Knicks will probably take a conservative approach, the soonest he'll be back is February.

I think you are right on that timetable. February would be a nice and safe time to come back.

Gallo has a bad back. He played like one summer league game, and that was it.

Oden was never called a bust. The Celtics tanked to get him. He was very scrutinized and his ability was well known. He was seen as a franchise center after one year of college. Gallo is hurt and he is a mystery. He played at a lower level prior to coming here. He hurt his back in a game playing against rookies, and marginal players. He was called a potential bust and a waste of a pick because of all of the available talent that filled needs around him long before he hurt his back.

In both cases the players weren't called busts, but the picks were/are. All because of health issues. I guess its fair for people to wonder or believe he won't be any good, especially in NY, where patience is not only a virtue but a lost treasure. I will hope for the best for the Knicks and wish he becomes a solid pick for us. He certainly fits the Knicks system.

i'd play him as my backup PF w/some minutes at SF when we go big to start... he'll be able to space the defense nicely w/his perimeter shooting ability & clear the lane for Duhon & Nate to penetrate & dish.

This is so funny. We don't know what this kid's ceiling really is. You can't judge a guy like him this early. Let's just remember one thing. HE'S TWENTY!!! His nuts haven't even dropped yet. Give him some time to grow into his body and improve his game. He can't very well do that right now. What we do know is that he hasn't looked bad in any of the situations we've seen except for his regular season stint when it's clear he was rushed. The Wiz are just now really seeing something from Blatche, so we need to be patient.

If we add a player at his position and he's a Stud, so be it. Then we let him develop and see just how good he can be. If he plays well he'll get his minutes off the bench and if he plays great he might take over in the starting lineup.

For real. Most NBA rookies don't really show who they are going to be really, until their third season. I can't even begin the count how many rookies look AMAZING in their rookie season, and then fizzle. John Wallace comes to mind. We have yet to see him play a game, and even then you have to give him time to become a man.

People can see stuff over and over again and still ignore it. You really don't know what you have in a player 11 games into their careers. Someone in this batch of rookies, who is not being mentioned, is going to turn into a star. And some can't miss in this batch is going to get injured, or lose motivation, or not pan out. It happens in every class. Back problems are worrisome but it's not over by a long shot.

out of the entire 1st round of picks that were taken after Gallinari, there are exactly 5 rookies who are making any kind of impact on their respective teams:

DJ Augustine #9 pick
Brooke Lopez #10 pick
Jason Thompson #12 pick
Javale McGee #18 pick
George Hill #26 pick

whether Gallo turns out to be better than those guys or not, it's still waaaaaay too early to set any projections... there's likely going to be other guys that were taken after Gallo that end up being better than those guys too... seriously everyone needs to stop playing the talent evaluation game before we even have anything to base these evaluations on... give these guys a full season at the very least before setting any kinds of projections on them... hell, Channing Frye looked like an up & coming stud his rookie season & look what happened.
