The problem is that it seems that some people on this board purely think it is sport, that animals are overvalued and that there's nothing wrong with it. It's unclear if this is Briggs thinking. In any case, this is a disturbing and sickening situation. Personally, I think he should spend the rest of his life in jail to be fair.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Put Vick in the Octagon with Brock Lesnar with no tapping out and no ref.

I always felt that it wasn't Dog fighting that got Vick in jail. It was the fact that he didn't cut the government a piece of the action.

One more thing. Briggs, you don't think he should have lost his house? When people get busted for possesion of drugs, they lose their houses. When people have labs in their homes, in order to cook coke and heroin, they absolutely lose their houses. You don't think somebody would lose their home, if it was found to be an slaughter/torture house? Dogs were found dead and burried in his backyard.

It's like what 4949 says. The man is sick and needs A LOT of help. But then again, so do just about all people, whom I think torture animals.

No I don't think a man should lose his home and job over this. He should've paid a stiff fine[1mm$] and be put on 5 years probation and lose his ability to ever own another pet. What he did was horribly wrong but the punishment was way to severe. They did not weigh punishment vs crime. An animal is not a human and while he acted inhumane--how about the hundreds of thousands of dollars M Vick had given to charities that directly effected poor people. Does that way in punishment?
1 million dollars 5 years full probation and maximum community service--that fits the crime

You think that you should fine the guy 1 million dollars and put him on probation? One million to this guy is like 100 bucks to me and you. Probation is not the same as parole, it means nothing even if he gets in trouble again. They should have gave the SOB life for all I care. Of all the people in the world that have been wronged and this POS is the guy you choose to make a stand on? Strange

Dude, your inhuman.

in-hu-man (in'(h)yoomen

and mercy; cruel and barbaric.
2 not human in nature or character: the inhuman side
of the dinosaurs.

Has it occurred to you BRIGGS that Marbury was a big champion of Vick's barbaric ways, by virtue of his defense of such acts? Has it occurred to you that maybe this explains a little of what Marbury may be like. I mean he is a very strange person isn't he? Lacking in compassion and caring only' for himself. Do you see a pattern here?

An animal is not a human, of course, but it still has feelings and can be just as frightened to die as you and I. Show some compassion man.

I'd like to put him into a den with lions, all chained to walk a distance to the edge of the circle he is protected in, to see how he would like the taste of living things that have no compassion.

Seconded. Michael Vick vs. a lion, a grizzly bear and a komodo dragon in a four way cage match. Let's be fair, it's just sport, right?

With all the human rights violations across the globe and in our backyard, and with the homelessness epidemic among other things, I cant believe they have this man in prison over some damn dogs.

Call me whatever you want, and make no mistake Vick was wrong, but I dont see why dogs are given this elevated status where they are almost on equal footing with humans. Plus there is a certain sense of hypocrisy where rednecks can turn shooting animals into this heroic man sport, but Vick is wearing orange.

But VMart is right, ultimately this is all about dollars and cents.

Humans or animals. It's wrong either way. Let's just all try to be a little humane about it, okay? I think more than enough has been said about it.

Perhaps the people who violate human rights are capable of torturing and killing animals. Think about that.

Well excuse the hell out of me, I guess enough has been said so my opinion isnt needed.

And lets just stick to the facts and not some illogical, slippery slope argument.

The argument is that torturing animals is a crime and should be punished by jail-time. Tell you what seb. How about you take the dog's position? Just become a fighter in Vick's dog mafia and tell me how you like it. Animals are living things and the closest things to humans as far as other living things on this world. If you kill innocent animals, you deserve to pay the price.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Fair enough, now what about the rednecks and mountain men who run around and shoot animals for fun? Why is there such a gross disparity here between Micheal Vick and Sarah Palin? Our friends from the heartland get to tap into this "manly" social cache while Vick is sitting in a cell. Its hard for me to wrap my mind around that hypocrisy.

sebstar, you're failing to acknowledge the difference between domestic animals and wild animals. You're also failing to acknowledge the law. If you disagree with the law, lobby to get the law changed. But people shouldn't violate the law and then be all surprised when they get penalized for it.

Your opinions are a bit disrespectful to those who value our pets. No offense.

Sebstar, I don't know what you're thinking, but people are outraged by shooting mountain lions too. At least I am, personally. The brutality of an animal other than for food, to me, is unnessessary. Use your cows for leather too. Fine. After that, to me, it's unnesessary. Animal brutality shouldn't be used for entertainment. We shouldn't be taking our dogs and having THEM drive a bear or a big cat up a tree, THEN shoot them and call ourselves great hunters. I never even understood how people took pride in such a simple task as pulling a trigger to kill an animal. It baffles me.

Why do we need to do all of this crap? Don't people realize how we're destroying the Earth?

I don't support hunting and I think it's a joke that some states allow it as a "sport". It's really pathetic.

Yeah, I can understand those feelings also. You have a good point about hunters, who kill for sport and those who kill for food. Seriously, the one's who kill for sport (fun) bother me also. And Palin and her ideas can go to complete and ever lasting ****'n hell!!!! That bitch is a law maker and will never go to jail. It's wrong, no matter how you look at it. And it is a good point you make about the entire industry of killing animals. It's no reason to let Vick off the hook, and the others should be called on it.

And for what it's worth, most people don't like hunting and big handful of them don't like killing anything at all. If I see someone kill a game animal and kill it with respect, and use all parts of the animal, then I can respect that. I couldn't do it myself, but only if it had real meaning to it. I know a lot of hunters who hunt for food. And my experiences with a lot of them is 'some of these people believe that if there is ever a food shortage of some kind, then they want to have the option of hunting to survive. I can understand that to. It really comes down to what you know about people who hunt. And these people that I know (and I've known some of these people for years) they hate sport hunters. They totally disagree with there analogy of hunting. Those kinds of hunters are the Palin's of the woods. Again, it's not something I ever got into and I doubt I ever will, but I can respect them because they are sincere.

This is my own opinion on this very hot and controversial subject and I want to share some of these thoughts with you and my own experiences.

But if I saw someone torture an animal to death and threw the body away like it was nothing to be concerned about, then I'd have a big problem with that. Also, there are some vast areas were people almost have to hunt to eat. Like Alaska. With some people, it's a tradition. But these are just my observations and there are many different kinds of feelings regarding what goes on in the animal world. There doesn't seem to be one answer for all of this.

Maybe if Vick was starving and had to kill the dogs to eat them, and I mean just walk up and either shoot it in the head or club it to death, to eat, then maybe I'd be a little more understanding. But he down right tortured and killed these dogs for no reason at all. It does not excuse him or 'ANYONE', from 'ANY BACK GROUND' to do such things.

If any of you want to point anything out to me that I may have missed, then I welcome it and would like to discuss it further. I love dogs and I don't want anyone (torturer or hunter) killing these animals in the name of any sport or when it's totally unnecessary.
I'll never trust this' team again.

A law is a law. I think it's ridiculous that marijuana is illegal but alcohol is not. But marijuana is illegal regardless of how silly I think it is. Therefore I do not walk around with 50 lb. bags of marijuana, because if I did, I know I would be arrested and thrown in jail. Vick should have made this same intellectual decision regarding dog fighting. If you don't like the law, lobby against it, don't break it.
I just hope that people will like me

Lets be real again, he is in jail for rackateering and obstruction of justice. Not for being mean to animals.
What he did was sadistic and cruel, but while briggy is right that killing dogs should not cost a man his livelyhood or tens of millions.

But gambling, tax evasion, rackateering, obstruction of justice are pretty serious stuff. and if he pleaded his way out somone might have been threatening to shoot out his knees. He was screwed, but he was no victim. I really don't know this element and what the code of honor is amung that southern dog fighting culture, but I can imagine its a pretty tought crowd.

I don't know. Even if it was only tax evasion, rackateering and obstruction of justice, I think he still would have lost a lot anyway. The tax man, the law who goes after gambling and the people who go after racks (who coincidently love dogs) all they need is a reason.
I'll never trust this' team again.
