I think the best option would be Bosh. He is the perfect talented big man with range, handle and great defensive presence. He is a more talented and healthier Camby so you gotta get him.

And for conspiracy theorists, Lebron and Bosh are close friends and rumor has it they want to play together. Quickly, anyone that finds a Bosh and Lebron pick with NY caps gets a free cookie.

Yeah I also heard that Lebron wants to play with two other stars. So besides Bosh the Knicks might have to pick up another player for Lebron to sign the dotted line. In order to win a title you really need three solid players and great role players to win at all. The Knicks will have to get rid of Curry and not resign Lee for them to sign a third player.

don't forget our draft pick this year & the MLE we'll have in 2010.

Isn't the MLE available to teams who start off the Summer OVER the cap?

Yes. Since we will be under the cap, we will not have the MLE.

Bosh has proven he will dig in and give that extra effort. I've seen the guy run cross court to block a guys shot at the rim, get the rebound and ignite the break. Amare to me is what he is. I never saw amare really give that extra effort. He can drop 40pts and all that but he doesn't really do the intangibles that help you win games. I think Bosh does. Plus Bosh is a leader out there and he has the humility and compassion off the court. He's that type a guy and I respect him a lot. He understands what's going on around him and what he means to people and the game. Lebron is cut from the same cloth.

I'm hoping Phoenix decides to rebuild maybe we can trade Marbury & Lee for Nash- then we could get three max type stars- Bosh, Lebron & a resigned Nash, no?

i don't see that being realistic, but just for argument's sake for that scenario to play out, we'd have to make the trade for Nash this season (Marbs will not be here for us to include in any deals after), & if u re-signed Nash to a max extension there's no way u'd have the cap space to sign both Lebron & Bosh in 2010... only way we can hope for that trio to be united here in NY it would have to be after we sign up the 2 big names & then Nash decides to come here on a reduced money deal for a chance at a title playing for his former coach in a system he had the best years of his career playing in... i think if Lebron does decide to come here than all the rest of the chips will fall into place... who wouldn't wanna come play w/Lebron James afterall?

Yes. Since we will be under the cap, we will not have the MLE.

according to this you're wrong

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Salary_Cap#Mid-level_exception
Mid-level exception

A team is allowed to sign one player to a contract equal to the average NBA salary, even if the team is over the salary cap already, or if the signing would put them over the cap. This is known as the Mid-level exception (MLE). The MLE may be used on an individual free agent or split among multiple free agents, and is available regardless of where a team stands with respect to the salary cap. The Mid-Level Exception for the 2007-08 NBA season was $5.36 million. The MLE is $5.585 million for the 2008-09 NBA regular season.

An example would be the Toronto Raptors' acquisition of three-point specialist Jason Kapono during the 2007 off-season.

I think GKF has it right. I checked Larry Coon's Salary Cap Bible after he posted that, and it appears the exception is only available to teams that would otherwise be capped out.

here's another option for us to re-sign Duhon w/o having to use the MLE on him in 2010:
Non-Bird exception

Free Agents who qualify for this exception are called "non-qualifying free agents" in the CBA, meaning they do not qualify under either the Larry Bird Exception or the Early Bird Exception. Under this exception, teams can re-sign a player to a contract beginning at either 120% of his salary for the previous season, or 120% of the league's minimum salary, whichever amount is higher. Contracts signed under the Non-Bird exception can last up to six years.

since Duhon will not have had 3 years w/this team by 2010, he qualifies for this type of exception... so according to this we can sign him to a Non-Bird exception contract at that point w/o having to use up the MLE... yet another incredibly smart move by Donnie Walsh this offseason by signing Duhon to a 2 year contract & not going the 3rd year.
