How about David Lee + Malik Rose for Marcus Camby? Then sign Ewing Jr.?

That may help us now, but not in the long run. I'd rather trade for a young player who, as nixluva says, can grow with the team. Especially if we are trading a guy like Lee.

I agree that it helps now more than later, but it's not like David Lee is good enough to fetch a blue chip center prospect. I'd like for this team to get good, and the team can worry about adding the right pieces when they become available. If the team is going to trade Lee, it's not going to resign him. And Camby's contract expires at the right time and they'll get some service out of him now. So I think Marcus camby is more valuable to this team now and in the future than Lee, when factoring in the contracts.

trading Lee for an expiring & a pick is the best option for us IMHO... the other option is to use him to try & jettison 1 of our unmovable cap killing contracts... either way, we shouldn't be focusing our attention on how the trade would help us this year... we need to focus on how it helps us years down the road.

I don't think Little Jimmy would be OK with bringing Camby back. He basically had him (and Spree) kicked off the team, remember?

Doesn't have to be a blue chip center prospect, but just one with some potential at least defensively. Or just the draft pick.

If it were up to me, I'd clear this thing up with Steph ASAP (now hearing the Knicks may have offered $15 mil. for him to walk away with a possibility of a higher offer on the way) and also buy-out Malik Rose then I'd immediately pick up some inexpensive defense with:

1) Justin Williams - 6'10", close to 260 lbs. Enough size (with the big wingspan) to play the 4 or the 5. Shot-blocking's important, but I just can't see trading anything of value (yes even Mardy Collins has value) for a Sean Williams or another shot-blocker when this kid's right there for the taking for the league minimum. I don't care how many teams have cut this kid so far - you try out this kid first to see if he fills the need before doing anything else. He can't possibly be any worse than Malik Rose I can tell you that - Malik Rose is done and brings absolutely nothing to the table anymore. When you factor in our cap situation and the small amount it would cost to bring him here (this kid's just looking for a job - if you don't think he'd look to come in here and make a big impression with a lot of hustle, think again) and for what we need him to do, he's by far and away the best option out there for us for interior defense. Would make for an infinitely better option than Malik Rose as a reserve big.

2) Pat Ewing Jr. - he's raw & probably wouldn't see that much time but he works hard, he plays the hard and could provide a spark from time to time evident by his play in the preseason. Younger & has a chance to be better than Ro. Balkman. Not to mention it'd make for a nice jesture toward his old man - eventually I wanna see papa Ewing back with the organization in some capacity, whether it's as a coach or in the front office.

i'd have no problem giving Justin Williams minutes over Jared Fishlips... at least there's the possibility of some upside there, as remote as that possibility might be... Jefferies is a bust & that's all he'll ever be, & Malik is not a fit on this run & gun style game either... same w/Ewing Jr... i'd much rather see him getting minutes at this point than Jefferies or Malik.
