JrZyHuStLa - do I amuse you?

You think that's funny?

Kobe in his rookie season averaged 7.6 pts, 1.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists

Chandler in his rookie season averaged 6 pts and 3.6 boards with 1 assist

Now pay attention.

New here is where it gets interesting, as Kobe's minutes increased (26) in year two he averaged 15pts, 3 rebounds and 2 assists with 2 turnovers. Note the learning curve and note the turnovers because you KNOW a brotha gotta protect the rock.

The Mayor, with increased minutes (currently averaging 28) is averaging 14 pts, 6 rebounds and 1.4 assists and a bullet on his blocked shots. The best part is that The Mayor protects the rock and only has 1.4 turnovers.

This, in addition to the fact he makes his teammates better (eff rating of +13.80) in my humble opinion is a key indicator of his court sense and ability to continue on a steep curve to improvement.

The Mayor, barely in his 41st game as a pro, is sending strong signals that there is fire where there is smoke.

Don't come crying to me later trying to find a New York Knicks number 21 jersey because they are all sold out.

Still not convinced JrZy? Cool.

WAIT, there's more...

Kobe in his rookie season shot .417 from the field, second season .428.

The rookie Mayor shot a tasty .438 and this season is ahead of Kobe's sophomore numbers by shooting a very intelligent .448

The breakout year for Kobe wasn't until year three when his minutes shot from 26 to 38 per game.

Stay tuned.

To be fair to Kobe he was 18 when he started. Making the leap from High School to Pros is very difficult. But yes the Mayor is for the people.

VMart - great line.

What would Chandler be, a junior in college?

I'd never come crying to someone who blindly created a thread with the belief that the Knicks were playoff bound last year.

You can come with every stat that possibly exists to compare Chandler to Kobe, but it won't get you too far.

I like Chandler, a lot actually. I do think he is our best player. But at least compare him to a Marion or Caron Butler before you get all giddy about the Black Mamba comparisons.

First thing JrZyHuStLa, the thread titles are for entertainment purposes only. If I were dead serious about making predictions I would be working on Wall Street or Vegas.

Let's forego the comparisons to random NBA'ers and compare The Mayor to himself.

All that matters is the Knicks are 4-2 and Chandler is an intriguing chemical element of Change We Can Believe In

Nate Rob is the best player on this team...this is a stupid topic. Chandler might be able to produce at a high level at some point, but he is not there yet. He does some things well, which can get you excited, but he is not that good yet. What you really have to be concerned with chandler is his bb iq. He clearly has the build and intensity, but he is still raw and his shoot is still raw as well.

Yes, but your argument wasn't concerning the Knicks being 4-2, it was regarding Chandler being "Kobe". Don't be unfair to Chandler, he's a kid who is going to struggle on certain nights. He's going to have to do better than 8 points on 3-12 shooting to be the next Mr. Bryant.

JrZyHusStLa - true. The Mayor will have the inevitable off nights but so long as he brings the defensive effort and hits the boards we cool.

The beauty is that guys can pick each other up. Chris Duhon stepped in to add 16 points, nine assists and five rebounds in a three column game.

I just invoked Kobe to get your attention.

Kobe, eat your heart out

The Mayor with a decisive majority in electoral college votes and fills every coumn on the stat sheet and even gets a blocked shot for punctuation

The Mayor Energizes The Base

“Unbelievable,” Richardson said of Chandler’s breakout performance. “Young boy killed it tonight. I’m real happy for him, real proud of him. His confidence is crazy right now.”

“He’s important to us to be on the floor,” D’Antoni said. “He spreads the floor, he guards 4’s, he rebounds the ball well. Obviously, he can’t shoot like this every night — maybe he can — but he’s important.”

Maybe he can

The Janauary Inauguration

After only 45 games as a pro, The Mayor has demonstrated an adaptability that is rare among young players. What you watch him in person, you might notice how he plays in subtle spurts. There is not a lot of wasted energy, not unlike a professional dancer... or someone who plays basketball beyond his years.

The best news is his fg shooting percentage. Despite having a rare trifecta of interior offense, a mid range (dying art) jumper and three point range, he is shooting 47 per cent. That ain't bad.

Once he becomes more familir with the tendencies of his new running buddies, I expect his assists to improve. The rebounding is there. His upper body strength has improved as he must have hit some serioius weights over the Summer while no one was looking.

Meanwhile, I despise comparing him to any NBA baller.

There is no ceiling.

Vote early and often.
