Amare is a great player but has to be one of the most overrated guys out there. He is unable to create points himself. He can't take anyone of the dribble unless he is in the post. You will never see him shake off a guy on the perimeter because he lacks ball handling skills. I agree 5 feet from the basket, he's amazing. Both he and Kemp are way below average defenders for their abilities.

huh? Can't you say the same about Duncan? Or Malone?

No, you can't say that about Duncan. He's got championships, and the offense was ran through him during all of those runs.

Guys like Shawn Kemp, Derrick Coleman, and Bernard King will always be defined as great by their peers and by fans for the short stints of phenominal play they gave us. Not everyone in the hall of fame deserve to be there. Being in the hall of fame is not the end all just like winning a championship isn't.

All I gotta say is after watching that youtube clip? My memory played back everything and I know that man was a great player.

I would say with my naked eye.....Barkley, Malone, Kemp, and Derrick Coleman were the 4 best power fwds I have ever seen.......not taking anything away from the greats before my time....but I can't vouche for them.

Amare is good don't get me wrong. He's probably the Bob Mcadoo of our time. Still the guy is just not better that anybody mentioned in this thread.

I wouldn't say that about Duncan because he is not in the type of athlethic player like Kemp and Amare. Duncan is a far better post player than either Kemp or Amare. He is probably the standard of what you judge a post player. It was common to see Kemp go coast to coast and finish with a dunk. It's rare to see Amare lead a break and finish it without giving up the ball. Malone is similar to Duncan without the defense. Both have/had excellent foot work which I don't believe Amare has.

Kemp was an athletic freak and a very very good player. I watched some NBA Hardwood classics and for a while there nobody could hang with him, he was a monster.

I'd still take Stoudemire over him.

DJ.....check how boring this clip is.....Amare is stiff and has to jump off 2 feet. Kemp was a freak and just a joy to have witnessed such an athlete.

amare is the better player tho...

You must be stiffing glue. Kemp in his prime was considered 2nd or 3rd best forward in the game. That's behind Malone and Barkley. Amare kept in better shape, he's not the better player.

OK, lets say I am sniffing glue. still doesn't change the fact that amare is the better player.

as far as freakish athleticism goes, Sean Kemp has to be 1 of the alltime greatest i've ever seen, right up there w/Vince & Dominique.

Kemp was very good. He was also not even the best player on his own team, which was Gary Payton. The Hall of fame will back me up on that in a couple of years.

Use whatever standard you want to, in their primes or out of their primes (Which Stoudemire is only reaching now.), team success, defense, Stoudemire comes out ahead:

oohah

Team Success goes to Kemp.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Good call. Kemp was a bigger Dominique. Amare got nothing on the Rain Man.

Team Success goes to Kemp.

He got to the Finals once, and there were a bunch of first round exits and second round exits mixed in there too. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/OKC/ I won't get into Kemp's post Seattle years.

I believe Stoudemire has a better winning percentage. Lots of time to go too.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

lol@using "hey ma" as a theme song for the package. Duke was straight droppin' babies all over the place. Crazy irresponsible. The "Rainman" made it rain on those hoes all day!

i mean if we wanna include small G's then i'll bring up Spudd Webb & Nate obviously, but yeah a young Stevie Francis was a sight to behold... still, guys like Kemp, Vince & Nique were just walking highlight films every single game
