That would make sense if Lebron cant win in his hometown he can come to a franchise that hasnt won anything for 35 years instead and have no real supporting cast around him. I dont think Lebron is ready to be second fiddle to the Italian Stallion

Come on man! You know this team is going to be built and revamped by the time LeBron gets to New York. Walsh is going to keep our strongest pieces and anyone else who can run the D'Antoni style and this time he's going to put and keep in perspective the contracts the way they should' have been in the first place. Guys like Curry, Zach, James, Malik, Marbury, Jeffries, these guys are out the door one way or another. Stop thinking about them anymore. We got a new team coming real soon, with our established young guys and the emergence of the man with two first names.
King's making three assumptions that I don't understand:
(a) the roster is frozen and will be the same (or not meaningfully improved at least) in 2010;
(b) the current young players will not improve and become players who are appealing to FAs;
(c) getting cap space for the 2010 off-season and beyond will payoff only if we get Lebron. There are no other good FAs in 2010 and there never will be in subsequent years either.

I LOVE the fact that MDA is making Curry sit. That's the way you do it. What is the alternative? Do what Isiah did and just let guys play even if they give no effort and don't deserve to play? Nah i'll take my chances with how MDA is playing this.

I think there is alot to worry about because the team isn't going to win alot and unlike defensive teams that leave it all on the floor D'Antoni's system makes it look like the team isn't trying at one end of the court. The media, the knuckle heads in the locker room, the fans, the owner, and the stubborn old gm with the short sighted vision all stand in the way of his success this season. He has held up well so far but in Phoenix one of the reason he left was because he felt unappreciated.

agreed, if Walsh had sent Marbs packing somehow i woulda been a lot more optimistic that real change was on the horizon... now i'm not so sure... Dolan's refusal to buy out Marbs & Turd's contracts means Walsh's power to enact real change is still severely hampered... makes me worried about how much real change Walsh can accomplish in the next few years.

How many owners in this league, regardless of who the GM is, are willing to buy out 21 million dolar contracts? Buying out contracts are not good business. Would I have liked to see Marb traded before the start if the season? Absolutely. But I dont see the sense or urgency to get rid of Marb now when we will have the opportunity to move him in Feb or just let him walk in May. Its not like his presence is holding this current group back from moving forward to the playoffs or something. Marb is just first in a long line of players who need to be moved. We have time. Everyone should know this. What Isiah and Layden did to this franchise has set us back years and will take some years to get back on track.

I was pulling for Curry to finally make a difference, but when Mike sat him, Eddie disappointed me. That's what should be done, if it makes everyone else better.

I don't even know how anyone here can even tell what we have here. After all, everyone said pre-season didn't matter, that it didn't mean a thing, so how do we know anything, other than basing it all on 'last year'?

Okay so everything is going to be revamped. You will have Gallinari, Chandler, Robinson, and a late lottery pick for this year draft to build around. The lakers couldnt win with Kobe, Gasol, Odom and you expect to for a free agent to come and play with these three guys and win big.

Dolan's bought out big money expiring contracts before... i agree it's not good business to buy out contracts but it's also not good basketball sense to allow Marbury to stay IMO... this isn't like buying out Zach's longterm deal or anything... IMO it makes sense to bite the bullet for a year in favor of allowing this team to move forward w/guys who are more likely to be here beyond this season... this is not about wanting this whole mess to be fixed overnight... it's about making an important first step to at least start towards getting there.

It's amazing how we've watched the scenario King1 has laid out derrail the team every year for 4 years running, even to the extent that our past GM has been exiled to his own or a hospital bed, yet no one seems concerned if it happens again this year or next?

Enjoy the honeymoon period Donnie and Mike, and welcome to the toxic pool that is the NY Knicks.

It depends on what role players are added around the FA and on how much LUCK you have. Luck is a factor that everyone ignores.

I got tired of saying it over and over and over

The fact that the fans of this once proud franchise are putting their hopes on Lebron coming here two and a half years from now makes me sick. Its delusional to epic proportions.

For every one bigtime FA that leaves 15 stay. For every one team that does good with cap space there are 10 that couldnt do squat, unless you consider Corey Maggette and Eddie Robinson prize FAs. But we are NY so we will get Lebron and Wade to come and join Zach, Chandler the roster and Chris Duhon. I cant wait

Fish- I agree with you about pinning our hopes on 2010. This franchise is seriously messed up and an honest assessment is that we are five years away from having things righted.

We might have some nice pieces by 2010- but Lee & Nate might be gone, replaced by what? Chandler, Curry & Zach & Collins & a resigned Duhon?

What gets added to the roster between now and 2010?

One single first rounder in 2009, which is likely to be somewhat crappy if this squad is able to claw its way to 35 wins?

If 2010 is the answer, then the only difference between Walsh and Isiah is for Isiah, the answer was always next summer, next draft night trade, next season, the next move.

We're still just as desperate and foundationialess as ever, just maybe a little more patient in our misdirection.

It is MDA problem because he cant get rid of all the bad apples right now. You have to get rid of Steph, Quentin, Zach, and Jerome in that order and Walsh doesnt like buying out contracts so we are stuck.

I would switch Curry with Zach. Zach at least is trying to work hard. Right now, his only problem is his contract.

The difference between Zach and Eddy is day and night.

Zach loves to play ball. He loves to win. He loves to beat the guy he's playing against. He's skilled. He plays hard. He's in shape. He doesnt have a chisled body. Neither did Ewing. Zach is also not a nice guy. He's abrasive and self centered (and thats nice).

Eddy is a nice guy. He likes everyone. Everyone likes him. He doesnt work hard, doesnt play hard, isnt in shape and his skills are suspect.

Who are you going to win more games with?

By Dec people around here will be saying things like "Zach's play was the only thing that kept us in the game."
