In the big scheme of things this doesn't change a thing, but I don't like it. Jr. was a prospect like any other prospect he wasn't a lock to be an impact player on this level, but after we showcased him like that, he's probably gonna land with another team and go on to help them down the line.

It's just part of the punishment for the sins of the past under Isiah. We the fans are made to suffer another year with Jerome and Malik instead of moving ahead with some better players, that fit our needs.

This has nothing to do with Isiah. The real question is, what does Walsh really see in Roberson? I hate this move.

I'm annoyed by the move because I don't understand the reasoning behind it. Why is buying out a player so taboo?

The real problem with this is that Jerome James is still on the team.. I really fail to understand why it isn't better to keep both PEJ and Roberson and cut James

Yeah, same with me. Does Walsh think that James will contribute? Does he think it would be wasting too much? I don't get it.

Wow...Damn, I was dead wrong. I thought there was no way they would cut Ewing, given the obvious of course --- In addition, they were showcasing him and giving him burn. Knick fans are desperately trying to fall back in love with this team... Why do that?

This bordered on antagonism towards the fans. Curious as to why they would insist on starting the season like this. Fans are ALREADY disgruntled, now.

This was a very easy gesture of good will towards the fans, and Walsh gave us a cold backhand. This move would have cost them nothing. Roberson is trash.

Im not in agreement with Walsh here, but we really don't have much of a clue as to his upside (jr).

I also can understand a culture that you buy out players is not a good one to have.

We have seen that Jerome does have talent but a body that breaks and perhaps lacks desire.

If he did come in shape, perhaps he should be given a chance.

Junior is a nice player but not special.

Yeah, but why even invite him in the first place, if there was no room? His last name is Ewing, not Smith. They knew fans were going to catch feelings.

What i was talking about was why we still have guys like Malik and Jerome taking up space when cutting them would be more beneficial. We haven't done that cuz of their contracts and Walsh doesn't want to buyout their contracts.

Clearly after talking it over with MDA, they felt Roberson was the guy to keep, he's more NBA ready right now. Jr. was a project and we all know that. If we didn't have Jerome we could take on a project, but since Isiah signed him to that contract, we're now paying for it. That's all I was pointing out.

If Ewing was special this would be a no-brainer so that isn't the point. Roberson is not special either. In addition, he is also useless because we have 5 guys that play in front of him. Ewing has some skills and an NBA body we can use even if he never gets off the bench.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

While rationally, I agree with you, emotionally I am waiting for this organization to finally give the fans something they want instead of more of the same. Honestly, they could have sold $1m more worth of Ewing jerseys. I think Dwalsh is thinking a bit too much about nominal figures for salary cap purposes while ignoring the dazzling lights of NYC... He should pay attention to the fans cause at the end of the day, it is us, not Dolan, not Stern, and not any other person that will pay his salary. I am just disappointed.

Ewing Jr. was light years behind Balkman and that is saying a lot. Ewing Jr. made 450k off his stint with the Knicks lets not cry for the kid he belongs in the dleague for a year anyway.

That being said why even sign Roberson, he isn't a sharp shooter summer league excluded.

But the kid had work ethic, professionalism and a willingness to get better. Having someone like that push people in practice is always a welcomed opportunity.

Makes not sense to sign Roberson for 850k and then move balkman because he made 1.2.

Two guys were not resigned from the 15 man roster last season. Two more are expiring contracts. Yet the team can't resign a player they pretended like they wanted. So now all I need to believe from the coaching staff and the front office is that Anthony Roberson is a superior player to Patrick Ewing Jr. Donnie let D'Antoni talked him into signing Roberson based on 3 SL practice drills. There's no one to blame but the man who now sits in Isiah's old seat. Donnie being Donnie letting his coach run the franchise.

Well just because you don't believe in it, that doesn't mean Karma doesn't exist, the fact that you don't recognize that the world doesn't revolve around you, isn't good karma. LOL

Now back to the latest news from the Ewing Jr cut, this is from Knicks fix via Rod Boone speaking with Donnie Walsh.

http://blogs.trb.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2008/10/ewing_jr_is_the_odd_man_out_1.html
Update 2:50 p.m.: We just spoke with Donnie Walsh. Basically, he chose Roberson over Ewing. Jr. because he believes at some point, the Knicks are going to need shooters and that's Roberson's specialty.

"You start looking at well, what are our potential needs? Walsh said. "I think that's where this went down to in the sense that it was felt that in the immediate future, potentially, that shooting could become a problem for this team. So that was the reason for Anthony Roberson because that's what he can do."

He said Ewing Jr. took the news better than he did. His hope is that if Ewing Jr. does not land on another NBA roster, that Ewing will play in the D-League and the Knicks can somehow find a way to bring him back. Walsh also did say that he looked for a 2-for-1 deal so he could find a way to keep Ewing Jr., but nothing worked out.

"I think he's got a great upside," Walsh said. "As he develops, he's going to be a valuable player both offensively and defensively. It's always painful because you have to let somebody go that's worked hard. And he did. He worked very hard and he played well. But it's a simple case of 15 vs. 16 and you've got to do something."

As for what not giving the fans what they want and cut James loose instead, Walsh's response was: "Let's put it this way: I have no background with Jerome James, except he did not play last year," Walsh said. "So I understand the fans thinking that. He is under contract to us and we honor all our contracts. So basically, he's in the position that I've had other players in on this team, which is go out and prove yourself because you didn't play last year. So, we have to see what you are before we know what to do. And there could be a place for him on this team. But it'll be up to him to prove it in practice and if he gets a chance to play in the games, play in the games."

Ticket sales

A few preseason tickets is not a good trade for "irate" fans. Cats on here were literally praying he made the roster.

Just so unnecessary.

I said this to enyspree before, and I think enyspree might be the writer of the article that Hoopsmeister posted above. I betcha the Knicks are hoping that Ewing does NOT land on another NBA team so that they can possibly do a 2 for 1 and bring him back. It freaking sucks though, that Isiah's horrible management is the cause of this putrid mess.

This is a double whammy for me, b/c I was really hoping Houston could make it too. He would have been a much better shooter than Roberson. Maybe there's a silver lining to all of this and hopefully we can work some 2 for 1.
