Never liked him as a player but i hope he can become a bench player to at least be a good role model. Imagine Crawford with discipline!

i'd love to see the guy as an assistant coach or working in the front office in some capacity.
'This is about...I am a Knick. This is about trying to do whatever I can to help the Knicks improve and lend whatever experience I have. This is not about me saying, 'I've got to go win my ring. ... You know, when I was younger, I had people like John Starks and Patrick (Ewing) and Oak (Charles Oakley), and they taught me what it means to work and what it takes to win,' he said. 'This is about me passing on whatever I've learned to the guys. So I figured, if I'm going to do this, why not do it here, where I have my legacy?'

someone needs to print that out & post it above Steph's empty locker next year.
Hopefully they'll make copies to put above the empty lockers of Zach, jerome, Eddy, Jamal, Jared, Malik, and Q too.

This is about Houston being a Knick, but less so as a player than as a future executive. This is about getting to know Walsh, vying to be an eventual successor, and generally staying plugged in to the organization at fundamental level.

He ain't gonna win no ring anywhere else, but nor will he become a font office guy anywhere else. This is less about the now than it is about the future.

yahtzee.

Lastly, he's also the "locker room monitor". I'm sure Dolan promised Walsh to be less engaged, which only increases his need for spies from within.

Yeah, I disagree. He's tried to make a comeback before when he obviously wasn't ready (and when Isiah was here). You do something like that because your life is empty without basketball. He obviously needs to play NBA ball. He doesn't need money. And he feels like he still has something to give.

He's young in life but very. very old as a BB player. Making a few buckets off the bench this year, at a point beyond late in his NBA carrer, is nothing compared to trying to secure a future in the NBA.

why do you think he needs/wants to secure a future in the NBA?

I think you already have a handle on that.

I know my handle is nice, I'm just wondering why YOU think he's plotting for a management role.

Because he's too old? Because no other team will give him a job? Because he's Dolan's spy? lol

I guess it's fun to play with conspiracies. There's always another motive behind the one we're told, right?

I can agree with that somewhat blueseats. I truly think Houston loves being a knick, and I would not mind having a guy like that in the front office. I hope he can make the team. I think he can definately have a positive influence on some of these knuckleheads..

I think most of them are such jerks that they wouldn't listen to the words of an excellent former player. The young guys would listen but Jamal's probably the only important veteran who would listen. And his problem is that he always listens but never learns.

It's not conspiracy, it's complexity. To think there isn't more going on than what you're told is...well...

But have it your way if you like...Houston has little interest in a future in the NBA, he just wants to grind bone-on-bone as the 10th man to average something like 7 mins per game in 29 outings because...he's got the heart of a champion...or something like that.

By all accounts, Houston is as smooth off the court as on, and Dolan loves him, so he's definitely got a future here in some capacity. If not front office, maybe broadcasting. I'd like to see him get a chance, but I'm glad he wasn't given the job this time around. No reason he shouldn't be groomed first.

I think they're just giving him a chance because he wants it... the Rangers let Petr Nedved (drafted a Ranger, traded, returned, left again) come to camp and some thought maybe he'd stick, but they cut him during the first round of cuts.

Wow! Who cares what his off the court motives are. If he can still play that's all that matters. It's obvious to me that the guy has some definite allegience to our squad, regardless of what his intentions are. Yeeeesh, some of you guys are so cynical. Nothing is taken at face value.

Why is it construed as "sad," "cynical," or "conspiratorial" to suggest that the 37 year old guy, 3 years into retirement on bad knees, is in this for the future? This team has no present, and there is no way his knees can handle the rigor of this system in any meaningful way. He's here to provide leadership on the only team where he could do so, not to be Steve Kerr on the championship Spurs. I honestly don't understand why people or so put off by that notion, but so be it.

If you read my note I clearly said that there is a possibility for off-court motives, but who cares. Why does it matter? It's speculation, and really what difference does it make? What is your point behind your speculation?

I think Allan should make the team as a no brainer. We need Allan. He's way better than Roberson--he's a true veteran leader with the only trail to the last of the winning times the Kniks had. I know he cant play 30 minutes but even in 8-14 minutes spurts he could hit 3-4 jumpshots and spread the floor while helping maintain a professional atmosphere,

There is no downside to H2O making the roster. He can only help and I think will actually flourish in D'Antoni's system.

yeah, that's what I meant. You big baby.

It has nothing to do with speculation in general. I'm just trying to get the meaning behind what you are trying to say. Are you just talking out loud? Are you saying that Allan is not sincere in his committment to the Knicks and has selfish motives. Are you saying that he is loyal to the Knicks but also has other motives. And if he does, why should we care?

I have no problem with speculation, but in this particular instance because you don't really clarify why this matters it just sounds like a passive-aggressive way of saying he is a selfish player.

h20 would be a waste of a roster spot.

nets just picked up julius hodge for real cheap. you would rather have h20 on the roster than a guy like julius hodge?

That's tough, both guys have past medical issues. One guy has a surgical repaired knee while the other guy had surgery to remove slugs. One guy was a previous all star while the other was a previous victim. I go with Houston.

I don't have a dog in this fight, it's just what I think is up. You're an adult, you can internalize it however you choose.

What's interesting is how some off you feel the need to judge my character based upon how you yourselves choose to internalize it. And suddenly, people who have "not problem with speculation" have a problem with speculation.

Dude, first of all, RELAX!!!!!!!!!! No one is judging your character. Just asking for clarification about your speculation. What is wrong with that? If you won't provide that to me, than of course I have to also jump to conclusions about what you meant by the statement. Without clarification, it sounds exactly as I said it sounds. As if you are doubting Allan's words and that he has ulterior motives and doesn't actually feel the way he says. Just looking for clarification, not judging your character. Blueseats I've always thought you were an okay guy from what I know of you and have no reason to judge your character. But in this case you are either being passive aggressive or need to clarify the meaning behind your statement.

Bip, I've been called sad, cynical and conspiratorial. I don't really care, not only have I been called worse, I am worse. But you're the one who starts his post with "Wow!" and ends with "Yeeeesh, some of you guys are so cynical...", so I don't think I'm the one who needs to relax.

Sorry dude, I've said all there is to say about Allan's situation here. Carry on "jumping to conclusions about what you meant by the statement."

I do think some of you guys are cynical. I'm cynical about some things too. It's okay. I don't think I'm upset by it, just observing. I think if you read back you can probably see why people reacted to your post(me included). And if you don't look back, who cares.
