Damn, my weight is at the moment 195 lbs (89 kgs), which is a whole lot for my height (between 5-10 and 5-11). I really need to get at least to 176 lbs (80 kg), but its not realistic for me to achieve that in 3 months. I just dont have time, money nor the proper items to do it. I hope my static bike and changing my diet can do something about it, but in the long term.

if you run 30 mins a day for 3 months, you will easily lose the weight (with proper diet of course). static bike is ok, but you will have to do that for an hour to get the benefits of 30 mins of jogging. i'm 6'1 and at my worst, weight 207 lbs. running for 3 months, i was down to 177.

Are you kidding me? You mean like RUNNING for 30 full minutes? I will be dead or drinking a beer by the 10th minute! This summer I have been doing full speed static bike for 30 mins, but obviously, the only thing I managed with that, was to mantain my weight. Thanks for the advice. I havent ever gone to a gym, so I dont know much about this, but is it ok for the body to lose that much weight without getting stronger? I mean, I have the idea that if I lose like 30 lbs without having "change" my body constituion and then I stop running or doing exercise, I will turn into a balloon very soon. Am I wrong?
Thanks for the advice again.

I lose about 20 lbs during the knicks season. I eat one meal a day when the Knicks play. After watching the team for 10 minutes I puke up dinner and go to bed.

I think this is the best attitude to take. And I think chipping away at your weight is a healthy disposition, which should be the purpose.

For exercise, I think at first the focus should be to go to the gym every day for 28 days. I hear that doing something 28 days straight makes it habit. I don't care if you show up and leave, just get in the habit of going and making it part of your life. That's a big step. But everyone that wants to become more active always does the "well, it's kind of cold right now and I'd rather sit on the couch and I'll work twice as hard tomorrow" bit.

Bruce Lee wrote in his Tao of the Jett Kune Do that he always tried to incorporate exercise into his daily life, not just at scheduled times. Meaning, he'd walk up three flights of stairs instead of using the elevator. Have you seen Bruce Lee? I'll gladly accept his advice.

As for diet, a great place to start is to drink eight glasses a water a day. We all learned that in the fifth grade. No one ever does it. But a lot of times when we think we're hungry, it's really that we need some water. It also lets your body flush itself out, which burns calories. Also, if you're trying to drink eight glasses a day, you end up cutting out sodas and stuff.

That's my get-started advice:
(1) make going to the gym or wherever you go to work out habit
(2) try to be more active throughout the day, not just at the gym
(3) drink eight glasses of water a day

Pretty easy stuff but its pretty easy to mess it up too. I guarantee you'll notice a difference in your day-to-day life and have more energy. And then you'll be looking forward to incorporating more wellness into your being

Oh, one more thing (I'm obviously procrastinating), don't reinvent the wheel. I prefer to train like a boxer. It's not so much that I enjoy hitting something hard, though that's an added perk. It's that I think boxers look good. I think whenever a championship boxer goes to a bar, broads are like "i wand to lick from his belly button to his balls" so I decided I'd train like a boxer. Maybe I'm not even 50% of that, but it makes me feel damn confident about my health and getting my balls tongued.

Maybe you think a runner, cyclist, swimmer, surfer, NBA baller, etc. has the body a chick would love to lick from head to toe, whichever that body type is, why not train like them? Why not modify their routine into a 30-45 minute block?

to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. by changing your diet, you can drop a few pounds but unless you are really obese for your height, then there will be a plateau. at some point, you must do some physical stuff to increase the calorie burning to shed more pounds.

here's what i suggest b/c it worked for me. ease into it. jog for as long as you can without stopping so let's say it's for 7 mins on the 1st day. then the next day out, add 1 more minute. then add another the next day and so forth. that means by the end of the first month, you will be close to jogging for 30 mins. it works, trust me.

you say you're riding your bike for 30 mins and it's helping you maintain. so to burn more fat, you have to increase the aerobic activity, so you have to add more minutes. i don't think there's anyway around it.

but you can always do what king suggests tho...before he became a knick fan, he used to eat a big mac a day. then he adopted the "eat a big mac when the knicks win" plan and he lost over 450 pounds.

DarkKnicks - what does money have to do with fitness?

Do you have a door frame? I have this chin-up bar that I paid $30 for that works on leverage......meaning no screws or mounts needed. Bang! Instant bicep and back workout.

Chest and tri's???? Drop to the ground and do push-ups.

Legs? Stand up and lift those heels up as many times as you can do it. For you thighs? Do squats without weight as many times as you can.
It really is that easy. Take turns doing that about 3 times.

Abs? Drop and do some crunches or if you get the chin up bar, hang from the bar and bring your knees yo your chest or at least paralell to the ground.

Grand total? $30 spent!!!!

I don't have time? Yes you do! Before you go to sleep you probably do unless you are on the run from the cops or you sell drugs. You could always do like batman did in "batman begins" wake up, drop and do you push-ups and sit-ups.

Keep the change.

To add, if you don't like running 7 minutes is an eternity especially when you are clocking yourself.

If I jogged right now I would be dead ass tired in 2-3 minutes....pain in my side and all.

With that said? DJ is absolutely right about adding a minute. A day. Used to do that too. 1-3 minutes of emarrassment today will be 15mins of respectabiliy in 2 weeks. Your body is gonna want more. You may feel your body could maybe go more than that extra minute.

I do this every few months....I talk **** about how I'm gonna get fit and steal one of Fishy's groupies.

Eddy Curry is a fat slob of a pansy with no heart.......at the same time I robably couldn't beat him in a 40 yard dash. I definately couldn't play 4 games pick up at half court let alone one 4 quarter nba style basketball game.

So I'm calling this the "Eddy Curry is a fat bastard Challenge"©

90 days......that's about New years.....set your own goals. Everyone prove that Eddy Curry is a lazy piece of crap by out working him and changing your fitness level.

I'm gonna be following the "red, white, and huge" routine in this months Muscle and Fitness magazine for the next 8 weeks and switch it up after that.

Seriously who's gonna join me this time? I'm going to seriously stick to it. Who's down?

dantoni has an alternative plan....read below:

SARATOGA SPRINGS -Eddy CurryEddy Curry missed yesterday's first two practices of training camp and could be out for the weeklong training camp here after being felled by a bacterial infection Monday night in the team hotel, KnicksNew York Knicks officials said.

Curry was taken to Saratoga Hospital for evaluation yesterday. The Knicks won't know if he'll participate this week until later today. Curry, diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat three years ago, had a high fever and vomited most of Monday night.

Mike D'Antoni's speedball offense may not suit Curry anyhow. Curry came into camp in mediocre shape and is no lock to be the starter.

Using his trademark gallows humor, D'Antoni said: "It might've been lucky for him [missing practice]. He might've died otherwise. He was throwing up and everything. It's a great way to lose weight."

^It's kind of a sick way to joke, but I think sadly, it might be true for Eddie Curry, especially with his previous heart condition. He very well might not be fit for NBA life.

Well I got mine from modells. I'm not sure if they have it in their on-line store.

There's a infomercial out now selling one for 69.99(don't quote me on the price). Not the perfect pull-up.....the same type I'm describing that uses leverage over a door frame.

Hehehe, of course you are right about the money, but, you know, its always easier for lazy people like me to have someone (in a gym) to tell you to do something rather than doing it for yourself. Or just because of the thought "damn, Im paying for a gym and I aint doing anything!".
You all make me feel bad! I already feel tired just by reading the word push-ups. Well, I will lose 20 lbs in a month, you'll see.

Yeah he has a crazy sense of humor. He probably forgot about that heart condition stuff.

Btw, I just think the dude was get heart palputations(hope I spelled that right). He said he wasn't, but I believe the mofo was taking fat burners. He was really slim and trim that season and was never that way.

Anyway, its funny how the real bull**** comes out when a real coach and president come in.

But wait lets not turn this into a bash curry fest......this thread is about fitness and proving you are better than Lazy Eddy.

NBA is what is keeping him in somewhat shape. Imagine what Eddy would be like if there was no basketball in his life. He would probably be 7' 450 lbs or more. If his heart is stressed right now imagine what his heart woule be if he didn't exercise or playt basketball.
Come on Eddy step it up man you got a family to think about.
