Great! Lets start 5-20 and get a top three pick! Then nexy year we try to move these bums with a years salary off the books, making them a little more attractive to other teams. Whats the problem here?

the team hasn't cracked 39 wins since 00/01. another 30 win season would make it 8 straight sub 40 win seasons. that has to make them the worst franchises in the nba. it's all in for the 2010 summer. until then, there really is no point watching...

I usually stop watching around February anyway, maybe now I can save myself from 5 months of heartbreak. I mean seriously, at this point does anybody expect anything at all coming from this franchise? We are years away from being a watchable team.

it's amazing that even after isiah gets fired, a time tested gm is hired, and a exciting coach is brought in, that knicks fans are still down on the team and it's prospects. wow, the franchise really beaten their fans down big time.

i think it takes a change of perspective. i think you watch the games without any expectations and you will enjoy the product more. that's probably the mindset knicks fans need to adapt just so they can cheer again. or make an emotional split from the team and find something else to occupy your interests.

What could the Knicks have done?
1. Drafted a player that can help us now not in three years.
2. Get rid of the bad chemistry guys and create a new locker room that a FA would want to come too.
3. Dont try and tell me Chris Duhon is the answer
4. Dont put all your eggs in one basket for 2010. Players dont want to play on losing teams.
5. Dont the patients run the asylum.
6. We will have the same starting lineup as last year when this season starts.
7. The only good news is if we get a top 5 pick MDA played with a russian in the Italian league and he sun Vitaly Jerkusoff will be a lottery pick and be ready to play in 2014.

So Gallinari is damaged goods and we have to watch the same sht as last year. Im sorry but this doesnt cut it. We shouldve brought in a hungry young GM like Seattle or Portland has done. Walsh has sat on his arse and let others make decisions. Why did we hire a man whoose time has come and gone? He's a has been

But we didn't Briggs. We are in the here and now, whining about what we should have done doesn't fit anything. Listen Walsh, D'Antoni and Gallinari have a lot to prove, but let's get real. Their careers as Knicks has just started and we are condemning them. Let's at least let them get their NY history under their belts before we fall into hysterics. The concern over Gallinari's back is legit. The concern over Walsh's slow movement is legit. But the screaming of busts and has beens 3-4 months in just goes to prove that Bip was wrong. Maybe you can't rebuild in NY.

Briggs, I think your grades are fair. Nothing has been done so far. I think we are different in that I knew it would be that way. The rest of the league has us over a barrel because they know we are desperate. The only way to fix this is to be patient. Our situation sucks. Someone could definitely come in here and choose a different approach and wreck shop. It's a different approach but impossible to say which is right and which is wrong. As a matter of fact Isiah tried it and failed miserably. No guarantee someone else wouldn't do the same.

I understand a difference in philosophies, and have no problem with the view that we should have moved faster. But to say Walsh's way is a bust, 5 months into his regime is ridiculous and represents histrionics to me.

8. Buy out Marbury & tell him to hit the road;
9. Follow up Marbury's buy out with JJ1 & Malik being released or declared unfit to play in JJ1's Case
10. When Zach proved unmovable, find out the market for some of the other 'winners' on this squad, like Curry & Crawford
11. See Above- stop trying to sell Crawford as a potential All Star- move him for a first rounder and ending salary & wish him well
12. Rather than sign Duhon, try to find some nugget of an undiscovered PG NBDL/undrafted colleage player.
13. Find a SG that is taller than 6'1"- are we playing in some Midget League- what gives with Roberson? He got hot in 1 practice in Summer League. Please

The analogy I could think of is , if you play poker and you join a new card table and you are getting bad cards what do you do? If you are Isiah you keep raisng and bluffing and pretty soon yoou are the first one broke and leaving the table . Well Walsh is a pro and he's surveying the players watching the cards and waiting to make his move at the right time. If he does it too soon it won't be right. He knows what he is doing. Would I feel any better about this team right now if we had given up a future #1 just to get rid of Zach already?? HELL NO!! There is NO rush to make that panic move at this time. People need to chill. It is going to take time to fix this mess, and I'm not talking about 2 months. Who knows how these players will play under D'Antonio. We need to see that before we make dumbazz moves.

Everyone seriously needs some patience. Christ, the worst thing Walsh could have done was go out and trade the whole roster and get some **** contracts back. Walsh is doing just fine.

Talk about Debbie Downer. It's called rebuilding. Read about it. Now you can see how Isiah totally destroyed the team. Nobody wants the Knicks crap.

The biggest difference will be that instead of not having practices the practices will be 45 minutes. Also, instead of messing up by picking an unkown small forward with the 21st pick despite needs and better talent available, this administration messed up by picking an unkown small forward with the 6th pick despite needs and better talent available. I also think that the philosophy of the current coach to rely on the 'character' of his players to be professional and play professionally will work out wonderfully. I think the 5 point guard, 5 small forward roster works nicely and is a trend that other teams will surely follow.

Very good post....As some have alreay said, Walsh is in an impossible situation. Teams know we are in a desperate situation and are asking for a kings ransome in return for our garbage. I would have loved to see som eof these contracts moved but at what cost? Certainly not a lotto pick...

I disagree regarding Walsh. I see alot of Isiah in his moves. I am not convinced that D'Antoni was the right fit for this team or this media market. He obviously was the biggest name on the market but more has to be considered when you are hiring a guy to coach your team. I also do not agree with taking Gallinari with the sixth pick. I think there were better players available who fit the needs of the team. I also am sick of taking small forwards or acquiring one on draft night every year, and it is bothersome that everyone knew who the Knicks would pick the last two years. I see the Duhon signing as similar to Isiah's signing Jeffries. The Knicks needed to be better on defense and Isiah signed Jeffries a limited player who played good defense in Eddie Jordan's system. The Knicks needed a pass first point guard and signed a back up pass first guard to the mid level max. I struggle with the fact that Isiah is still an employee because in my opinion every move looks like one he would make.

Are you sure about that

First Layden comes in here gets rid of our best players for crapy Utah "high character guys" Eisley, shannon, spoon and (shell of himself) Dice. Then pays Allan enough money to support a third world country, along with bringing in overprice role players. Force's our franchise player, and most consistantly hard working coach into retirement. Hire's a lame duck coach in chaney and gives him more money for losing more games. In 3 years in set the franchise back 6 years.

Secondly IT comes in like, we need to get rid of these soft ass no attitude, no chip on your shoulder, one deminssional players. Within 2 weeks of a clear evaluation...Yeah right. He unloads all average or less players with bad contracts and brings in very good players with even worse contracts, but hey..he wants to bring fun and enjoyment back to MSG. He makes some boneheaded lateral trades( even though the current roster was starting to show signs) and adds more good players with bad contracts...So his idea now is to just stock pile on talent fk chemistry, We need players who can play mutiple positions but haven't really perfected one,.So now all his players ( deep down inside) are like..whats my role, well whats my role, i could play and do what he can do.. Then he decides to bring in some Ny coaches...yeah!!!!Guys who were born and raise here Lenny and Larry but when they look at the chemistry
aspect of the team, there like holly sht these guys all do the same thing, i have no balance and not one single defesive player on this team..

To make matters worst he never once took into real consideration the issue's that His star player and star coach had only 6 months ago, and in the process, embarrassing the entire country by bringing home the damn bronze metal on yet another unbalance roster.

I strongly believe that the hiatus that steph took back in phenoix was majority isaih's fualt by atleast 80%. Steph is a bit of a head case but he's no dummy. I also think that unlike A I when he had is issue's with LB, he had a more veteren roster, and was supported to death by Phili, plus LB was given an oppertunity to work there issue's out over a course of 3 years unlike he had in NY. So who knows what could of happen there.

Walsh has a plan a coach, and ridiculous experience, and hasn't been charge with sabotaging projects, in his entire career. I haven't heard one negative thing from any player that has ever even remotely played for mike D, as a matter of fact it's just the opposite.
For the firts time in 11 years we finally get a coach and a gm thats actually on the same page, and most of you see this as a sub par off season.

GO FIGURE!

If you are waiting on Walsh to do this, keep waiting. Also I find it ironic that we expect Walsh to value 1st round picks when he has a history of trading them away at a far rapid pace than Isiah. Just look at the Pacer history during his span as GM and president. To be honest I think that is where Isiah learned his trade picks like water theory because in Toronto he seldom did. Walsh will allow his coach to run things but that can be both positive and negative. His claim to fame is drafting Reggie Miller and Chuck Person not bad if you look at fact that was more than 20 years ago. I give him credit on Tinsley. With Walsh it is hard to determine who did what because he is so hands off. Brown takes credit for the playoff teams of the 90s. After Brown, Walsh went into a bit of a funk, with weird trades and draft choices. Somewhere Johnathan Bender is wondering when he will get some burn. The Al Harrington soap opera, trading him only to reacquire him a couple of years later for a lottery pick. We do this with Isiah so why not with Walsh, he essentially traded Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, that 1st pick round pick (Thaddeous Young) for Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy and the Warriors pick (Shawne Williams). The expression on Bird's face when he found out that he had to turn over that pick to Atlanta for a player who they already traded away was priceless.

Jermaine O'Neal, well Isiah and O'Neal give all the credit to Isiah and so does Walsh. Danny Granger, Bird jumps on that although Walsh claims he had more input on that selection. Name me the big free agent that Walsh landed in his 26 years as GM of the Pacers.

As far as Mike D'Antoni, I would give him credit but once again I am not sure. I know he wanted Nash but so did Colangelo. Steve was already an established player who was asking for mega bucks from Cuban who didn't think he was going to get it. Amare was already on the Suns when D'Antoni arrived thanks to the likes of Layden. Joe Johnson another guy already on the roster when D'Antoni arrived. Other than Barbasoa I can't think of the other draft pick that D'Antoni put his stamp on that made me go oh wow. Actually under D'Antoni, the Suns built up the rep for wasting 1st round picks. Picking up Boris Diaw in Joe Johnson trade, not D'Antoni's call. From my understanding his big input was Marcus Banks.

What concerns me is that both men have shown a history of not really being the central factor for changing their respective rosters. Then Walsh goes out and hires Gabriel. A man who did a below average job in Orlando. There still is a lot to be worry about.

Okay, so history has left doubts in your head. I personally have no problem with that. But regardless of the doubts, these guys have been here for 1-5 months. Condemning our front office and coaching staff before the team even takes the court is just typical hysterics(not that you are doing this Pharzeone, but some clearly are). When Isiah was hired I was incredulous and wanted to break every wall on the planet. I felt it was a bad hire but even I had to give the guy a shot. What was my choice. He was already here. Even the worst can develop into winners by learning.

Walsh and D'Antoni are not my ideal tandem. But in their resumes these guys have won before. It's not like you are bringing in career losers no matter how much we want to examine their resumes. We have something right now that we haven't had in 100 years. A coach and GM that are on the same page. Let's see what they can do. If we are a year into this thing and are going no where than I can understand the complaints. But the guy has been here 5 months. We keep saying he has done nothing, when the reality is he just tore apart the entire front office. Is this not important? Should 1 guy make moves as we are replacing the front office and coaching staff? Or should we wait and let these guys make decisions together? To me, this is just typical NY impatience.
I just hope that people will like me

I'm a fan of the Knicks but also a patriot.

As of this morning I suspended my fan support for the Knicks. With so much on the line, for America and the world, the debate that matters most right now is taking place in the United States Capitol - and I intend to join it. I cannot carry on rooting for and posting about the Knicks as though this dangerous situation had not occurred or as though a solution were at hand, which it clearly is not. As fans living in the United States, our duty is to serve this country, and we can serve it best now by putting basketball aside and dealing in a focused, straightforward way with the problem that's at hand.

I suggest that the Knicks halt any preseason activities until McCain and Palin can come up with a plan to rehabilitate the economy.
