Briggs- when you talk about all the hillary votes- what you fail to include is that if she had any decency- she would have bowed out of the election when it was obvious she couldn't win.

To me, she is disqualified since she said she was ready to lead from day one- but she mismanaged her campaign from day one- how would her presidency be any different?

Everything coming out of Obama's mouth sounds better than anything McCain says.

As far as picking a fighter, maybe he should choose Tony Soprano to be his Vice president.

Or do we need a Larry Brown type to yell at goverment officials in the US and around the world to do the right thing? Maybe Vince McMann from WWE should run for president one day.

You are bang on my friend !

Hillary showed the country she was a snake who would have continued in the clinton bush regimes that got us into this mess.

All the trash she said about obama, why would he ask her to come into the whitehouse with him ?

She's a nasty, power hungry jerk, no doubt, but Obama needs someone tough to compensate for his (foolish) softie approach. I don't care about the VP's personality. I just want a Democratic president. Clark is still my first choice but she's my 2nd and Biden my third. If Obama's gonna pick another softie who won't fight and attack, then that will be comparable to having two John Kerry's on the ticket.

If Hillary is Obama's VP, then Obama better watch his back. Too bad Kennedy did not listen to similar advice about Johnson.

Right, you hear that folks? If you don't vote for Obama it's because you must be insecure about your own intelligence. You're also probably a racist too. SO if you don't want to be outed you better vote for Obama.

the problem obama has is he is smart- and most americans are afraid of people smarter than themselves.
the man started in perhaps as deep a hole as you can- single white mom, half black, half white- not accepted by either culture- and on welfare if I recall correctly. and he went to and excelled at harvard law school- and on his application, did not indicate his race.

the fact is, he is smarter than 95+ percent of americans- that is why they can't identify with him.

and rather than earn money by taking the private sector route, he tried to help the poor in chicago.

ny grandfather isn't ready to vote for a black man, and my mother- who despite her claim to be a dissaffected hilary supporter, in realty isn't ready to vote for a black man either.

i find it comical that hillary supporters will not vote for obama b/c they believe the media portrayal of her campaign was sexist. what does that even mean? will they vote for mccain? for nobody? i just don't grasp why a democrat wouldn't vote for the democratic candidate b/c they feel the media was "mean" to hillary. regardless, briggs, if #'s dont lie then how is mccain going to stop obama's record amounts of fundraising, donors, and people registered to vote? what about those numbers? who gives a damn about the 18mil that supported hillary, there are 330 mil in this country and way more than 18 million hillary clinton supporters.

briggs more numbers for you:

This will set him in good stead for the November election. Karl Rove, Mr Bush’s former strategist-in-chief, has frequently argued that the president mostly owed his re-election in 2004 to the fact that the campaign had recruited 1.4m volunteers. According to Ron Brownstein of the National Journal, the Obama campaign thinks it may be able to turn out four times that number, with local organisations in all 50 states. These volunteers will act both as grass-roots organisers and as “local validators”, working to persuade their friends and neighbours to vote for a man who, in his words, does not look like any of the other presidents on the currency.

No chance he picks Hillary, and Biden is too liberal. It will be either Sen. Evan Bayh (sp) of IN or Virginia Gov. Kaine (sp?). Bayh was a Clinton supporter, and this may placate Hillary and her angry folks. Kaine would possibly be a draw for Southern votes. If Obama wins, Biden is his Sec. of State.

What's more disturbing is the fact that 20% of Hillary's people are looking to vote McCain. If this is true, Bayh should be the choice. He is more conservative than Obama and comes from a state which usually votes Republican. Getting Indiana would be a big plus for the Dems.

If this country votes Republican after the Bush years, I will be done following politics for good, and I am a Social Studies teacher.

The Clintons better get off their fat butts and do some serious campaigning, or people are going to start thinking that she wants Obama to lose so she can run in 2012.

As for the racism- I am "white" and my girlfriend's grandmother, who is about 88, pretty much said that she was voting for McCain because Obama has darker skin. As an NYC teacher, most of the white teachers will vote Obama, although I know of some who seem to be looking for any excuse to vote McCain, and there are some conservative Jewish teachers who think Obama is bad for Israel, and are therefore voting McCain.

This is a f'd up country when Obama is portrayed as an elitist, while McCain has the millionaire wife, 10 homes, and his wife's jet, which he sometimes uses. Same as the Connecticut-born Bush being a Texas "cowboy," and the no-show National Guard Bush getting the votes of Vietnam vets while the real vet- Kerry- gets smeared by the "Swift Boat" campaign.

McCain even hired the Bush guys who smeared him in the 2000 primaries versus Bush.

Sorry for going on like this, but politics can be a hot topic.

No man is happy without a delusion of some kind. Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities- C.N. Bovee

This is a f'd up country when Obama is portrayed as an elitist, while McCain has the millionaire wife, 10 homes, and his wife's jet, which he sometimes uses.

Something Obama is starting to pick on.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/21/obama-tears-into-mccain-f_n_120359.html
"Yesterday, [John McCain] was asked again what do you think about the economy, he said I think the economy is fundamentally strong," said Obama. "Now this puzzled me. I was confused what he meant. But then there was another interview where somebody asked John McCain how many houses do you have and he said 'I'm not sure. I'll have to check with my staff.' True quote. 'I'm not sure ill have to check with my staff.' So they asked his staff and they said, 'at least four.' At least four. Now think about that. I guess if you think that being rich means you make $5 million and if you don't know how many houses you have then it is not surprising that you think the economy is fundamentally strong. But if you are like me and you've got one house, or if you are like the millions of people struggling now to keep up with your mortgage payments, you might have a different perspective. By the way the answer is John McCain has seven homes."

...

"Some of you saw the Saddleback Forum where [John McCain] was asked what was rich and he said 'I don't know maybe if you make $5 million, $5 million then you are rich,' which I guess means if you are only making $3 million a year you are middle class," said Obama. "I guess that's what he meant. His top economic adviser said the other day that Americans should stop complaining, that they've become a nation of whiners, that all these economic policies we are talking about is a mental recession. That if you just changed your mind you would be ok...."

As for Hillary being "close", look at the 1968 election. Nixon won by just 500,000 votes (less than 1% of the total vote), but beat Humphrey by a wide margin (20% of the electorial vote).

if he doesn't take her--he wasn't presidential material anyway --- that would mean he is spitting on more than half of the millions of hillary voters. no other vp candidate could come close to hillary and if he cant see that he doesnt deserve it
You know that is not going to happen. When it came to raising money for Hilary Obama only raised about $500.00. So there is no way in hell she is going to be the VP. If he is going to win it should be with his own ability not someone else's ability. Obama has not shown that he is a weak man and has been doing fine by himself. There is no reason to put someone on just to get over the hump now. This is not charity. If Obama wins it is not going to be by who his vp is going to be. It is going be because the people believe in him or not.

Hilary can win votes with her supporters in the Democratic party, for sure. But she would put off a lot of independents and Republicans who might otherwise consider jumping ship. Her strong showing in the Democratic primaries should not be confused with strong support in the population as a whole.
