This is a better deal for us than for Chicago. They only save about $6 and get the lesser player. I think we'll have to throw in something else - maybe that second round pick we got for Balkman.

If we can get Jeffries' deal off our books and save a year and free up salary in 2010, it might be worth it. Hughes sucks. How someone with no jumpshot got such a huge contract is beyond belief. I would almost rather keep Jeffries but Hughes' deal ends a year earlier.

Even though Hughes isn't a good shooter he is still in a whole other class. Jared is certified retarded.

I can see a Craw and Hughes backcourt......Hughes plays some good defense and he can run and pass very well. Its a good combo...plus its already been done with gilbert and hughes. Craw isn't as good a 3pt shooter or strong driver but Craw is very similiar to Gilbert.

Getting Josh smith would be retarded and then shiping Zach for whoever would be really awesome.

Key for me though is Aaron Gray coming over with Hughes. Aaron could easily be the center @ 7'1".

Sign me on man, but if we can move Jefferies for Hughes, Gray is not going to be a deal breaker for me. It only adds to the glut of a back court we have, but that's a year off our books no one else is going to offer.

I never really thought of Hughes as that good a defender. Man can come away with steals, but he'll often gamble on passes. I don't think I could handle a Hughes/Crawford back court. Hughes is much more controlled than Craw, but I'm expecting Jamal to just explode in D'Antoni's offense.

It'd take a couple more moves to make sense of a trade like this, but it's all a numbers game at this point.

If we got Hughes then we would have 3 former Bulls in our backcourt. Craw; Duhon; and Hughes. And Curry at Center. Whoa!

Yeah, Balkman is the key. Every team would love to add a gargantuan contract if they can have the great Renaldo Balkman in a deal.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Balkman was dumped for a second round pick which is more than he was supposed to be when Isiah drafted him. He had a tremendous opportunity and did not capitalize on it. Using the 20 on Balk was Isiah's fault. Getting a future second round pick for him is market value in 06 and now.

me neither. dont think D'Antoni could/would either.

if Hughes comes in I doubt Crawford would start with or over him if he is retained at all for the simple fact that hughes is much more controlled and at least appears to give some thought about what the other 9 guys on the court are doing

7 seconds or less may be the theory but as far as I can tell from watching Nash run the O was that it was a methodical process and not just throw the 1st shot u see up

Crawford might be a streaky shooter, but Larry flat out stinks!

This was started by some cleveland fans when he was there:

It's not like we are sending Chi our top players. They get rid of a Big Bad contract; We get rid of 2 medium bad contracts. Neither of our 2 proposed players has a good shot which D'A needs. Hughes can move the ball up and the last yrs from 3 point range he shot 33.3%; 34.1%; and 35.3%. That is not great but acceptable and could improve in our style of offence.

Hughes has been getting less playing time these last 2 yrs; and ppg has declined - last 2 yrs only 12ppg. And he makes $26.5 mil over the next 2 years. That is a lot to pay for only 12ppg.

Regarding Age: Hughes is 29 going on 30. JJ2 is 26 going on 27 in Nov. JJ2 and Malik play inside where the Bulls need help and Hughes is a guard where the Bulls have a lot of players. And we need guards. And Hughes's contract expires in 2009/2010 whil JJ2 in 2010/2011. And that is what we want to get rid of.

I think this is a good fit for both teams.

Who cares what Hughes is? This swap of expensive garbage fits our PLAN.
Nobody expect this thing to win soon; so why worry?

If Hughes is healthy I would trade for him in a heartbeat. He's a very good player, and a long multi skilled player who could be all star caliber playing under Mike D.

the cap benefits in 2010 is reason enough to make the deal.
