I'm not super enthusiastic about this trade... they upgraded C, but they downgraded RP. Farnsworth stunk the prior two seasons, but he's been a stud this season especially the past two months. As Cashman said, they robbed Peter to play Paul.

Sure, that's what it amounts to if you take the context of the team's roster out of the equation. But they had five very good relief pitchers and zero very good catchers.

Thats Unbelievable!!!

We could not give away Farnsworth last year...
I could not imagine a better man to plug in for the injured Posada than a winning vet like Pudge.

Edwar Ramerez has been amazing when he is "on" and you know when he is "off" right away because he gets wild... he may walk a guy or 2 --- but Farnsworth served up home-runs whenever he needed a closer quality out.

Now I am rooting for the Tigers to make the post-season against the Yankees... I have cringed each time watching Farnsworth pitch... the guy is a clown in a pressured situations. This trade can pay dividends for the Yankees if they face the Tigers... There is nothing like sending your greatest liability to your potential opponent.

another deal has to be on the way...unless cash is sold on veras/marte/edwar/roberston and possibly a returning bruney to be the 7th/8th guys.
We have four VERY good relievers in Veras, Marte, Edwar, and Rivera. How many do we really need? Most teams are lucky to have two very good relievers.

there are pitching very good so far. i have no problem going with that crew. but veras + edwar have never been a part of a serious pennant race as the go to guys so we don't know how they're going to perform the final 2 months of the year.

Did we even gush here about that Nady trade?

Where should these guys be batting?

Where were they batting when with their former clubs?

Pudge should bat 8th with Melky 9th.

Where is Nady batting since yanks got him? Role? I haven't had a chance to catch a game in a few weeks.

Nady has been playing LF/DH with Damon and bats 7th. You can bat him 7th or Cano, take your pick.
Damon/Jeter/Abreu/Arod/Giambi/Cano/Nady/Pudge/Melky.

Not to bad if you ask me. Plus with the relief corps we got, we are set up pretty damn nice.

Now if we can just get something out of Hughes, Wang, Kennedy or Pavano(gasp!)

yup, adding nady + pudge really solidified our lineup after the 6th spot. cashmoney makes some really good mid-season deals.

When the team's biggest weakness has been RP the past few postseasons, I'm skeptical of downgrading the pen. I liked having it as loaded as its been this year.

Was that the team's biggest weakness or was it that they couldn't score runs in the playoffs? Or that their starting pitchers stunk in the playoffs? It was pretty much all of the above.

Hey man Kyle Farnsworth was crying like a bitch talking about the trade.......the guy is human. He wanted to be here and I think he just tried too hard under the spotlight.

Good luck Farnzy......much love to you.

Relief pitching was definitely not their biggest weakness in the postseason, and when the guy they traded consistently fumbled under pressure, I fail to see how they really worsened themselves there. The Yanks were too often shut down offensively for the hitters they carried in their lineup. They haven't been taking good at bats in the last few postseasons.

Melancon was slated to be Mo's successor anyways... Farns was doing a good job this year but we've all seen enough of him to know that he couldn't be fully trusted in a big game... Veras & Edwar's stellar performance this season combined w/the Marte acquisition made Farns expendable... he was gonna be a free agent after this season anyway... we made out like bandits in this trade... Pudge is no longer the MVP calibre catcher but he's solid & a professional hitter w/tons of postseason experience, & he's been clutch in big games in the past... he's gonna fit in perfectly w/this team... Cashman played this one so slick not a soul ever had a clue we were in on Pudge... he delayed the announcement of Jorge's shoulder surgery until he knew this deal could get done... i don't care how u feel about the job he's done, u have to give the guy props for pulling this off.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes worked out of the pen when he came back a la Joba last year.

BTW, we sent LaTroy to the Astros for a minor leaguer.

And don't forget we have Bruney coming back. And Chris Britton is actually a pretty good reliever that we never use.

i doubt they're gonna do that... he's being bred to be a starter... maybe w/the Sept callups he'll join the staff & get a few spot starts to see if he's ready... i don't factor him into our postseason plans this season.

I think it might be the easiest way to get him back into the game after injury...

Thank God for the yankees bros......

Lots of talent for Giradi to mix around. He's got relief everywhere. The Sexton pick up was awesome too.

King Kong aint got nothing on Cashman!
